La fig. 1 est une vue schématique en coupe d'un distributeur ou triple valve d'un modèle bien connu comportant un mécanisme de réglage réalisé suivant une forme d'exé cution .de l'invention pour adapter alternati vement la triple valve à la commande des freins .de véhicules à vide ou chargés et La fig. 2 est une vue analogue montrant une variante de construction; La fig. 3 est une vue analogue à la fig. 1 Celle montre l'application .de l'invention au réglage de la triple valve pour train ,de voya geurs ou pour train de marchandises;

Pressurized fluid braking device. The invention relates to pressurized fluid braking devices for railway vehicles in which the operation of the distributor or of the triple valve can be adjusted to proportion the braking intensity according to the load of the vehicle.
Distributors of this type are well known and can be adjusted so as to vary the conditions for admission of pressurized fluid to the brake cylinder and its exhaust according to the composition of the train. passenger or freight train. It is also possible to adjust the distribution apparatus for a freight train, so as to vary the conditions for applying and releasing the brakes according to a vehicle, loaded or unladen, and to activate one or more of the brakes. brake cylinders.
Until now the adjustments are ordinarily carried out by means of a valve or other equivalent member which according to the. position which it occupies opens or closes various communications which vary the mode of action of the distributor. The valve or other equivalent device is usually operated by means of a lever or a handle placed on each side:
of the vehicle and as the key. of the tap has a certain number of lights or conduits, it is necessary to give it considerable dimensions and in certain cases which frequently arise the operation of the tap to adjust it in place - requires great effort.
The braking device according to the invention does not give rise to this drawback. It comprises a control valve device arranged so that it can be adjusted for one or the other of two different operating conditions and it is characterized in that the changes in the communications controlled by said valve device control or other modifications in the effect of this valve device to cause the change from one kind of operation to another, are effected by means of a relay valve device arranged for. be actuated by pressurized fluid and,
controlled by at least one shutter member with manual control.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the apparatus according to the invention and two variants.
Fig. 1 is a schematic sectional view of a distributor or triple valve of a well-known model comprising an adjustment mechanism produced according to one embodiment of the invention to alternately adapt the triple valve to the brake control . of empty or loaded vehicles and FIG. 2 is a similar view showing an alternative construction; Fig. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 1 This shows the application of the invention to the adjustment of the triple valve for train, passenger or freight train;
Fig. 4 similar to FIG. 3, shows a variant of construction.
In fig. 1, it can be seen that the body 1 of the triple valve contains the piston 2 which controls the main spool 3 and the graduation spool 4. The chamber 5 of the piston 2 communicates with the general pipe via a connection pipe 6. The chamber 7 of the drawer communicates with the auxiliary reservoir (not shown) by a pipe 8 and in the lower part of the body of the tri-valve is the adjustment valve 9 of a model known to perform at the beginning a quick brake application.
Above the adjustment valve 9 is a drawer 10 enclosed in a chamber 11. and actuated by a piston 12 subjected to the action of a spring 13. The drawer 10 .coin = carries a cavity 14 and a pair , of calibrated conduits 15 in .communication by a passage 16 formed in the drawer 10. The seat 17 or mirror of the drawer 10 comprises an exhaust duct 18, a duct 19 communicating via a channel 20 .with a duct 21 connected to the load brake cylinder and a conduit 22 communicating by a channel 23 with the upper face of the piston 24 <B> of </B> the adjustment valve 9.
The channel 23 also communicates via a channel 25 with a conduit 26 -discovered by the piston 24 when the latter is in the high position shown in the drawing and under these conditions the conduit 26 makes the channel 25 communicate with the underside of the piston 24 which is, on the other hand, in permanent communication with the atmosphere through the orifice 27. The chamber 28 above the piston 24 and below the valve 29 @ of the regulating valve. 9 communicates by a channel 30 with a pipe 31 connected to the brake cylinder .de the tare and the channel 30 .communicates also by a channel 32 with a .conduit 33 formed in the seat of the drawer 3.
The seat of this drawer 33 also comprises: the ordinary duct 34 for ser rage @de service, an exhaust duct 35 communicating by a channel 36 with the labyrinth exhaust port 37, a duct 38 connected to the pocket of 'acceleration 39; a duct 40 connected to the chamber 5 of the piston 2; an exhaust duct 41. The chamber 11 of the drawer 14 communicates via a channel 42 and a duct 43 with the chamber 44 of a relay valve 45.
The valve 45 comprises a pair of pis tons 46, 47, mounted on the same rod, but of different diameters and which actuate a slide 49 comprising cavities 50 and 51. The left face of the larger piston 46 communicates by a channel 52 with a conduit $ 5 formed in the seat of the drawer 49 and the right side of the smaller piston 47 communicates by a channel 54 with. a conduit 55 formed in the seat of the spool 49. The chambers to the right of the piston 46 and to the left of the piston 47 receive pressurized fluid from the chamber 4.1, this fluid escaping around the pistons 46 and 47.
Another conduit 56 formed in the seat of the drawer communicates via a channel 57 and a conduit 58 with the chamber 59 of the piston 12.
The lower part of the. relay valve 45 comprises two valves 60 and 61 normally held closed by springs 64 and 65. The rods 66 and 67 of the valves 60 -and 61 pass through the valve boxes and can be attacked by the bosses 68 and 69 -a lever arm. 70, the pivot axis of which is carried by the body of the relay valve.
The chambers 62, 63, communicate with conduits 72, 7-3 formed in the seat of the drawer 49 and the opening of the valve 60 or of the valve 61 puts the chambers 62 or 63 in communication with the atmosphere. '74 or 75 exhaust.
The operation of the apparatus is as follows: The apparatus is charged in the ordinary way by the pressurized fluid of the general pipe, the fluid is admitted from the chamber 5 clans the chamber 11 par the channel 7 6 and the chamber 44 of the relay valve 45 is charged with the fluid from the chamber 11 which. is admitted by the channel 42 and the pipe 43. The figure shows the various parts of the apparatus in the position which they occupy for the braking of the tare or of a lightly loaded vehicle and the apparatus -is put in this operating condition by giving the arm <B> of the </B> lever 70 la. position shown in the figure where the boss 68 keeps the rod 66 raised and the valve 60 open.
The pressurized fluid is admitted from the chamber 44 of the slide valve of the relay valve 45 into the chamber 59 of the piston 12 through the duct 56, the channel 57 and the. pipe 58; under these conditions, the. pressure is balanced on: es both sides of the piston 12 and the spool 10 under the action of the spring 13 occupies the position shown in the drawing. The slide 10 occupying Bette position, the brake cylinder for braking the load is in communication with the atmosphere through the pipe 21. 1o channel 20, the cavity 14 and the exhaust duct 18, while the duct 7 7 communicating with the top (the valve 29 and the conduit 78 connected to the channel 32 are masked by the spool 10.

<tb> otdiniire <SEP> -1e <SEP> rïïston <SEP> 2 <SEP> and <SEP> the <SEP> drawer <SEP> 3 <SEP> of <SEP> the. <SEP> three valves take up their serviae clamping positions and the pressurized fluid from the auxiliary reservoir is admitted to the tare brake cylinder by the following path:
duct 8, chamber 7, of the spool, duct 34, opening of valve 29, chamber 28, channel 30 and duct 31.
As soon as the pressure of the brake cylinder has reached a determined value, the valve 29 closes as a result of the lowering of the pin 24 of the regulating valve 9 and the delivery of the fluid to the brake cylinder cannot more than through the calibrated hole 79.
When it is desired to put the apparatus in the braking condition of the loaded wagon, the lever arm 70 is turned counterclockwise and to effect this rotation a rod or a cable is used. 80 and thus the rod 67 is attacked by the boss 69 and the valve 61 is opened, so that the other valve 60 closes under the action of the spring 64. The opening of the valve 61 allows the fluid on the right of the piston 4 7. of the relay valve 45 to escape through the following path: channel 54, duct 55, cavity 51 - of the spool-49, duct 73, chamber 63 of the valve and orifice 75 opening into the atmosphere.
The pistons 46, 47 and the slide 49 are then moved to the right and communication is established between the conduits 53 and 72 through the cavity 50, (, t between the conduits 73 and 56 through the cavity 51. The chamber 59. piston 12 is brought to the atmosphere via the following path: pipe 58, channel 57, pipe 56, cavity 51, pipe 73, chamber 63 of the valve and exhaust port 75; it follows that the fluid under chamber pressure <B> It </B> moves piston 12 and spool 10 to the right against the antagonistic action of spring 13.
As a result of the movement of the spool 10, communication -is established between the pipe 21 connected to the load brake cylinder and the channel 23 by the following path: channel 20, conduit 19, cavity 14 and conduit 22. The conduits 77, 78 made in the seat 17 of the drawer 10 coincide with the ducts 15 of this drawer and are placed in communication with one another via the. communication 16.
When the brakes are applied in the ordinary manner with the organs of the apparatus in the position described, the fluid is admitted to the brake cylinder of the tare in the same way as for an empty vehicle, however one has provided an additional intake of air from the space above valve 29 through ducts 77, 78 and @ ca, nal 32, as ducts 77 and 78 communicate with each other. the other by the conduits 15 and the communication 16 made in the drawer 10 as explained previously.
As soon as the valve 29 closes, the pressurized fluid is admitted from the chamber 28 to the brake cylinder for braking the load by the following path: channel 23., duct 22, cavity 14, duct 19, channel 20 and driving 21.
To restore the device to the braking condition of the. tare or lightly loaded vehicle, the arm 70 is returned to the position shown on the fia. 1 where it opens the valve 60 and allows the closing of the valve 61 and consequently the organs of the. relay valve 45, piston 12 and spool 10 return to the position shown in the drawing as easily understood without the need for further explanation.
In the variant embodiment of FIG. <B> 2 </B>. drawers 10 and 49 are combined in a single drawer $ 1 actuated by pistons 46 and 47; -this assembly is arranged in the lower part .du body .de the triple valve. The lever arm 70 which can be operated by hand and the valves 60 and 61 which it controls are also included in the body of the triple valve, but the operation is the same as that described above.
The apparatus shown in fig. 3 does not differ from that of FIG. 1 that the slide 10 actuated by the piston 12 alternately puts the distributor in the conditions required for braking passenger vehicles or goods.
The position occupied by the members of the apparatus in FIG. 3 is that corresponding to freight braking and the various ecmmunication.s established are the same as those described with reference to the apparatus of FIG. 1, when the latter is set for braking the tare or a lightly loaded vehicle.
In the apparatus shown in fig. 3, by turning the lever 70 to the passenger braking position, the spool 10 is moved to the right and the cavity 14 of the spool puts the conduits 19 and 22. In this case the conduit 22 is connected by a channel 82 to channel 36 and when the triple valve is in the release position, pressurized brake cylinder fluid escapes into the atmosphere through channel 36 and exhaust port 37.
The conduit 19 communicates via a channel 83 with an additional exhaust port 84 so that, when the apparatus is set as just described, the escape of the fluid from the brake cylinder is effected not only. through the orifice 37, .but again by the .supplementary orifice 84 by the following path: channel <B> 82, </B> duct 22, cavity 14, duct 19 and channel 83. In this position. of the drawer 10 during application of the brakes, there is an additional intake of air to the brake cylinder as has already been described with reference to fig. 1 and this admission is via the following route: ducts 78, 77 of the seat of drawer 10.
and ducts 15 of the drawer connected by communication 16.
Fig. 4 shows a variant execution of the triple valve for passenger or freight service braking. The two drawers 10 and 49 @of the fi. 3 are combined in a single drawer 81 as in FIG. 2 and -this drawer, has the necessary cavities and conduits. The operation of this variant of the apparatus is in principle the same as that of the apparatus of FIG. 3, it is understandable on inspection of the drawing without it being necessary to give a detailed description.
It can be seen that the invention provides a mechanism that can be operated by hand for the adjustment of the triple valve or other type of distributor with a view to braking the tare or the load and that this mechanism is of relatively simple construction and little use. overwhelming. The actual communications which must be established depending on the braking conditions are effected by the relay valve of suitable construction and which can be placed in any suitable manner with respect to the triple valve. The invention is not limited to the particular devices described, by way of example, and various modifications can be made thereto without departing from the limits of the invention.
