Baker's shovel and process for its manufacture. The baker's shovels used heretofore generally have an elongated armhole opening, the sides of which are smooth and into which the end of the handle, of square or rectangular section, engages. The handle is alois maintained in the armhole by means of a few wood screws screwed on each side of the armhole and crossing the handle right through. The screwing of these screws, .'effective by hand, represents a fairly considerable labor. In addition, in general, the shovel itself is worn or burnt by the heat of the oven while the handle is still in good condition.
However, in practice, it is very difficult to replace the actual shovel then simply by using the handle several times, this because of said screws. wood which, after a while, are difficult to unscrew. In addition, the holes that these strong wood screws make in the end of the handle are unfavorable to multiple use of the handle. The fact is that in practice the same handle is not used consecutively for several shovels. The present invention makes it possible to use the same handle several times in a row for several shovels.
To this end, in the shovel according to the invention, the end of the handle engaging in the armhole and the latter has one at least one groove, the other one at least one rib cooperating with this groove. to hold the handle in the arm chure in the extension of the shovel.
To prevent the. shovel to release, it is then sufficient to provide, for example, a bolt passing through the handle and the armhole.
This shovel can thus be very easily removed. I l is sufficient for this to unscrew and remove this bolt or other similar means to be able to remove the handle without further. This results in a notable economy since a single handle can use several shovels proper.
The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing said shovel. It is characterized in that by means of two cutters having, on their perimeter, one a relet ring, the other an annular groove, is practiced with the. the first one at least one groove, with the second one at least one rib, namely one on the end of the handle and the other in the armhole of the shovel, then this end of the handle is introduced into the armhole; -so that said groove and said rib cooperate to hold the handle, which is then fixed in this position.
Thanks to this process, the fitting is done almost entirely mechanically, resulting in a sharp reduction in labor. The opening of the armhole can advantageously be done in a single pass by means of a cylindrical milling cutter having an annular peripheral groove, so that at the same time a rib is obtained around the entire periphery of the opening. of the arm chure, rib -which cooperates with a corresponding groove of the end of the handle.
In the accompanying drawing is shown, by way of example only, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a view of a food shovel, with partial section; Fig. 2 is a cross section of the armhole, and FIG. 3 shows in section -and on a larger scale a milling cutter used to open the armhole.
In the drawing, 1 .designates the handle, 2 the shovel itself, 3 the armhole -de the shovel, clans which engages the end 4 of the handle. The two sides 5a, @ 5b -of the opening 5 of the armhole are connected at their internal end by a rounding 5c. The opening has a rounded rib 6, extending over its entire periphery. The end 4 -du sleeve is shaped so as to fit into the opening 5. This end 4 has a groove 7 cooperating with the rib 6 to tene the sleeve -in the armhole in the pro longement .de. the shovel.
A bolt 8 passing through the armhole 3 and the handle 1 fixes the latter in position.
In fig. 3, 9 designates the cutter used to make the opening 5 of the armhole and 10 the work table. This cutter 9 has, on its periphery, an annular groove 11, so that in a single pass, the opening 5 is obtained with its rib 6, all completely finished. The groove 7 of the handle is obtained with a cutter similar to the cutter shown, with the -difference that it has a rib or a bead. instead of the groove 11.
One could also provide the rib on the handle and the groove in the armhole. Instead of being of rounded section, the rib and the groove may also have a rectangular section or any other section allowing the fitting of one into the other. The rib does not need to go completely around the armhole opening. It could be provided for only part of the length of the armhole.
The grooves as well as the hole of the bolt 8 being carried out entirely mechanically and in a very small number of operations, the excavator described is manufactured with an extremely reduced labor, and it has the advantage of interchangeability. easy from the shovel itself when it is worn or burnt.
