Description
Das Kondensations- produkt wird in Gegenwart eines Nickel enthaltenden Mischkatalysators bei 200 und einem Druck von 100-150 atü mit Was-.ser- stoff hydriert;
Nach einiger Zeit werden noch während des Einleitens von a-Butylen 75 Gewichtsteile Trioxymethy len in kleinen Mengen zuge geben;
Process for the production of a synthetic resin suitable for paint preparation. The present invention relates to a method for the production of a synthetic resin suitable for paint preparation, which is characterized in that butylphenol-formaldehyde resin is hydrogenated to such an extent that the aromatic residues are converted into hydroaromatic residues.
The butylphenol-formaldehyde resin can be used as such or, which is technically more appropriate, in mixtures such as those obtained by condensation of butylphenol with formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing substances such as trioxymethylene, polyoxymethylene or paraformaldehyde or derivatives such as hexamethylenetetramine and the like.
The condensation of the butylphenol with formaldehyde, etc. can take place in the presence of an acidic, neutral or alkaline condensing agent, and also in the presence of other additives known per se, optionally in several stages and with subsequent heating.
The butylphenol-formaldehyde resin can be hydrogenated by hydrogenation processes known per se. The hydrogenation is advantageously carried out catalytically by the action of hydrogen at elevated temperatures and overpressure in the presence of hydrogenation catalysts known per se, such as noble metals, also nickel, copper, cobalt,
Chrome or The mixed catalysts consist of these metals or their compounds. For example, you can work at temperatures of 150-300 and pressures of 20-300 atmospheres.
The resin obtained according to the present process is particularly resistant to a wide variety of chemicals, for example to the action of alkalis. Very light and lightfast resins can be obtained. They are generally soluble in a wide variety of organic solvents, such as hydrocarbons and oils.
Their properties make them valuable paint raw materials; they are used as plasticizers, film-forming agents and resin substitutes. They can also be used to produce valuable adhesives. Examples: 1.
300 parts by weight of secondary butyl phenol, which are produced by introducing a-butylene into phenol in the presence of 60% perchloric acid at 7 (r-80 in an apparatus equipped with a reflux condenser,
are stirred at 40 to 50 in the presence of 40 parts by weight of 40% strength sodium hydroxide solution for 3-4 hours with 225 parts by weight of 40% strength formaldehyde solution. The oily product obtained by precipitation with acid is heated in a vacuum of 12 mm to 12.0 for 17 hours and then to 150-170 for 4 hours.
The solution of the solid product thus obtained in decahydronaphthalene is hydrogenated with hydrogen with the addition of a mixed catalyst containing nickel at 200 and 100-150 atm.
After the solvent has been separated off, a vitreous, pale yellowish resin is obtained, which can be found in various mineral oil fractions, aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene, xylene, in tetrahydronaphthalene, in aliphatic alcohols,
is soluble in hy droaromatic alcohols and ketones, in ether, dioxane, chlorinated hydrocarbons such as carbon tetra and trichlorethylene, in ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, amyl acetate and in linseed oil stand oil.
2. 150 parts by weight of secondary butyl phenol, which is accessible in the manner described in Example 1, are heated to 100 with 75 parts by weight of 40% formaldehyde solution for about 20 hours in the presence of 75 parts by weight of 20% strength sulfuric acid.
The condensation product is hydrogenated with hydrogen in the presence of a mixed catalyst containing nickel at 200 and a pressure of 100-150 atmospheres.
decahydronaphthalene or 2-methylcyclohexanol are optionally added as solvents. A solid, almost colorless resin is obtained. which is soluble in the solvents listed in Example 1.
3. A-butylene is introduced into a mixture of 470 parts by weight of phenol and 84 parts by weight of 60% excess chloric acid.
After some time, 75 parts by weight of trioxymethylene are added in small amounts while the α-butylene is being introduced;
the trioxymethylene can also only be added when the phenol has already been completely converted into sec-butylph@enol. To complete the reaction, 75 parts by weight of 40% formaldehyde solution are subsequently added, whereupon stirring is continued for 1 hour.
The condensation product is hydrogenated in the presence of a mixed catalyst containing nickel at 200 and a pressure of 100-150 atmospheres using hydrogen.
A brittle resin is obtained which is soluble in the usual paint solvents such as alcohols, aliphatic and hydroaromatic alcohols, hydroaromatic ketones, aromatic hydrocarbons and in esters.
