Description

B. Kalk, in neutrale harzartige Produkte verwandelt.

Process for the production of a resin-like, almost water-white product from a natural resin. Artificial resin-like products have already been made from natural resins in various ways. So one is assumed from the resin acids contained in the spruce resin or in the copals and on the natural resins and has these acids by saturation with metal oxides, such as. B. lime, transformed into neutral resinous products. The acids mentioned have also been converted into corresponding rosin acid glycerol esters with glycerol.

Own the products obtained in this way. but essentially still the disadvantages of the starting materials, because on the one hand they are usually very dark in color, and on the other hand by no means satisfactory in terms of their hardness and elasticity. The resin acids saturated with metal oxides are also completely unusable for many purposes due to their metal content.

It had been found (Swiss patent no. 202175) that almost water-light, spring-hard and also softer resin-like products can be obtained if a mixture of resin alcohols, as can be obtained by treating natural resins with reducing agents, with phthalic acid respectively. whose anhydride condenses. Such resin alcohols can be produced from the natural resin esters of resin acids by catalytic or other reduction processes.

As starting products for the resin alcohols, both the various types of colophony and the fatty acid-containing or fatty acid-free resin acids deposited from tall oil come into consideration, but also other natural resins such as copals, sandarac, amber resin and the like.

The present invention relates to a process for the production of a resin-like, almost water-white product from a natural resin, which is characterized in that a resin alcohol mixture, as can be obtained by treating natural resins with reducing agents, phthalic acid or. whose anhydride and glycerine allow each other to act.

The reaction between the resin alcohol mixture, phthalic acid or phthalic anhydride and glycerol can be carried out in a technically advantageous manner and is usually carried out by simply melting the components together with shorter or longer heating to temperatures above 80, advantageously between 120 and 25 ° C the passage of an indifferent gas flow has proven to be beneficial for accelerating the condensation process. Furthermore, the condensation can also be promoted by adding small amounts of known catalysts, such as acids or salts.

The resin-like condensation products obtained are, depending on the composition and method of manufacture, light to colorless resins, which are completely homogeneous. Characterized by transparency, high melting point and good solubility in drying oils and solvents. They can be used in all resin processing industries. So for the production of oil, resin, cellulose and combination lacquers, in the varnish industry, as an anti-slip agent for bean masses and drive belt waxes, in the production of glues, z. B.

Paper glues, putties, adhesives of all kinds, in the preparation of gravure printing inks and as a binding agent for printing inks of all kinds, also for leather and fabric printing and the like, for the manufacture of rigid smear, adhesion fats and waxes, drawing fats, for Iin - the pregnation of textiles and other materials, for the production of flycatchers and pesticides such as caterpillar glue, for the production of tree wax, for the production of works of art and for the production of plastic bodies or molding compounds.

Example: If 150 parts of resin alcohol, which was obtained by catalytic high-pressure reduction from rosin, is condensed with 74 parts of phthalic anhydride and 50 parts of glycerol with the addition of 6 parts of 70% strength excess chloric acid at temperatures between 90--1oo in a stream of nitrogen, one obtains at a light-colored condensation layer after a condensation time of 6-8 hours. This resin has good oil solubility and can be used with advantage as a binder for printing inks for leather and fabric printing. but can also be used in the manufacture of insulating compounds.
