Apparatus intended for measuring the quantities of heat consumed
in hot water heating systems
The present invention relates to an apparatus intended for measuring the quantities of heat consumed in hot water heating installations, this apparatus comprising a hot water meter, two thermometers influenced respectively by the inlet or outlet temperatures of water from the radiators to be checked, a differential mechanism giving the temperature difference and a multiplying mechanism giving the product of this temperature difference by the elementary volumes of hot water delivered.
According to the invention, this apparatus is characterized in that the temperature differential mechanism comprises a movable spreader bar coupled directly to movable rods of the two thermometers, and in that it comprises a device making it possible to modify the position of the attachment point on the spreader of a connecting rod actuating a crank transmitting the temperature differences to the multiplier mechanism, so that if the value of the ratio of the strokes performed by the thermometers for the same temperature variation changes, said attachment point of the connecting rod on the lifter at a position such that the crank attachment point again performs strokes proportional to the differences between the temperatures measured by the thermometers.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 represents a multiplier mechanism suitable for measuring quantities of heat, and a totalizer of these quantities.
Fig. 2 shows a mechanism making it possible to obtain the difference in the temperatures of the hot water at the inlet and at the outlet of the radiator (s), coupled with thermometers measuring these temperatures.
Figs. 3a to 3d separately represent cams of the multiplier mechanism.
In fig. 1, 101 shows a vertical shaft driven by a hot water meter 100, of any type, connected to the heating installation, the heat consumption of which is to be known. This shaft transmits its movement to a shaft 30 by means of bevel gears 102-103. On the shaft 101 is also wedged a pinion 104, meshing with a toothed wheel 105, integral with a vertical shaft 106. The ratio of the speeds of rotation of the shafts 101 and 106 is preferably (but not necessarily) ten. . The shafts 101 and 106 carry at their upper end respectively needles 107 and 108 which, by moving in front of a dial of an instrument (not shown in the figures), indicate the volumes of hot water having passed through the meter.
The number of these trees and these needles, here equal to two, can of course be any.
A shaft 1 transmits its movement to a shaft 4 by means of gears 2 and 3. On the shaft 4 is wedged the satellite 5 of a differential, of which the two planetary 6 and 7 are, as usual, supported by shaft 4, without however being fixed on it.
Although the drawing does not show it, the toothed wheel 2 is engaged, either directly or through the intermediary of a gear train with a toothed wheel 28, itself in engagement with a toothed wheel 29 set on a tree 30. It follows that the trees 1 and 30 are both driven by the tree 101, therefore by the hot water meter 100.
The sun gear 7 drives, by means of toothed wheels 8 and 9, a totalizing timer 10 shown here in the form of drums, but which may be of any other type.
Pawls 1 1 and 12 carried respectively by arms 13 and 14, can come into contact respectively with the planetary wheels 6 and 7, or with ratchet wheels, integral with these planetary, not shown in the figure.
These arms 13 and 14 are wedged on a shaft 15 in such a way that when one of the pawls is in engagement with the corresponding sun gear or with the ratchet wheel which is integral with it, the other is completely disengaged from its own or from its wheel. ratchet.
An extension 16 of the pawl holder 13 is connected by means of a spring 17 to a plate 18 wedged on a shaft 19, so as to perform an oscillating movement with the latter.
This plate comprises a mortise whose opposite edges come to rest alternately on a stop 20, which limits the amplitude of its oscillations.
This stop 20 is terminated by a cone in its part in contact with the plate 18.
This arrangement allows, by pushing the stop 20 more or less into a fixed support (not shown in the figure), to adjust the amplitude of the movement of the plate 18. The latter also carries two rollers 23 and 24 which can freely rotate on their respective axis (axes not shown in the figure).
Two cams 25 and 26, on which details will be given later, may meet the rollers 23 and 24 respectively.
These two cams 25 and 26 are respectively integral with toothed wheels 28 and 31, both mounted idly on the same shaft 27.
The wheel 31 is, like the wheel 28, moved by the shaft 30, but by means of a differential 32, 33, 36, the sun gear 32 being integral with the gear wheel 22 in engagement with the wheel 31 , the sun gear 33 being connected to the shaft 30 by means of the gears 34 and 35.
The satellite 36 of this differential is wedged on a shaft 37.
We see in fig. 2 that the same shaft 37 is integral with an arm 38 carrying a lug 39.
A hub 44, loose on the shaft 37, is integral with a drum 42, the graduations of which indicate the temperature differences, these graduations appearing on the dial of the instrument. A lug 40, integral with the drum 42, carries a movable stop 41, produced, preferably, but not exclusively, by a screw whose position is adjustable longitudinally. A spiral spring (or of another type) 43, fixed, on the one hand, to the hub 44 and, on the other hand, to the lug 39, constantly recalls the latter in contact with the stop 41.
A pinion 45, in engagement with a sector 47, is made integral with the hub 44 by means of a screw 46, or in any other way allowing the setting position of this pinion to be adjusted at will on the hub 44.
The sector 47 and a yoke 48 are both made integral with one another by means of a shaft 50.
The yoke 48 has a cylindrical hole in which a rod 52 integral with a part 51 can slide. A screw 49, screwed into the yoke 48, allows the rod 51 to be blocked on this yoke in a suitable position, chosen during the adjustment of the device.
The part 51 carries a pin 53 to which is articulated a connecting rod 21. The latter, at its other end, pivots on a pin 54 integral with a tongue 55. The latter part is connected to a lifter 58 by two screws 56 and 56 'fitted with nuts, or by any other equivalent means.
Mortises 57, 57 'and 57 "are provided in the lifting beam 58, through which pass the axis 54 and the screws 56 and 56' respectively.
This arrangement allows the correct adjustment of the position of the tongue 55 on the lifter 58.
This lifter is articulated at its two ends to pins 59 and 60, fixed respectively on rods 62 and 67 split axially in the form of a clevis. These rods form part of thermometers 63 and 68, both fixed by any known means, on the same undeformable support, not shown in the figure. As seen in the latter, the spreader 58 is rectilinear and the longitudinal axes of the thermometers 63 and 68 are parallel and preferably (but not exclusively) perpendicular to the mean position occupied, in its displacement, by the axis longitudinal beam 58.
The rods 62 and 67 having a rectilinear movement along their longitudinal axis, the lifter 58 has a mortise 61, which allows it to be tilted without jamming under the effect of changes in the relative height of the axes 59 and 60.
According to a known principle, capillary tubes 64 and 69 respectively connect the thermometers 63 and 68 to the bulb probes 65 and 70, so that the movements of the axes 59 and 60 measure at each instant the temperature of the water circulating respectively. in the pipes 66 and 71, which are the inlet and outlet pipes of the radiator (s).
We can see in fig. 3b, seen from above, the cams 25 and 26 and their respectively integral toothed wheel 28 and 31, mounted on the same shaft 27.
We see in fig. 3a, front view, the cam 25 in the normal operating position, and in FIG. 3d the same cam in the retracted position.
We also see in fig. 3c the cam 26 in its unique operating position.
In these figures, 109 is an axis integral with the toothed wheel 28, around which the cam 25 can oscillate. As can be seen, the latter has a mortise whose opposite edges can come into contact alternately with the shaft 27, which thus limits the amplitude of its oscillation.
The cam 26, which preferably (but not exclusively) has the same shape as the cam 25, is rigidly fixed to the toothed wheel 31, by means of rivets 110 and 110 ', or by any other equivalent means (FIG. 3c). .
A finger 111 is rigidly fixed on the cam 25 and protrudes on the face of the latter located opposite the cam 26. Likewise, the fingers 112, 113 and 114 are rigidly fixed on the cam 26 and protrude on the face of the latter located opposite the cam 25.
The finger 111 has a tail located on the other face of the cam 25, and a spring 115 comes to bear at one of its ends on this tail. This spring is fixed at its other end on a finger 116, itself fixed to the toothed wheel 28.
The operation of the device is as follows
The hot water which circulates in the radiator (s) comes into contact at the entrance of these with the bulb 70 (fig. 2), and at the exit with the bulb 65. The liquid contained in the bulbs expands differently since the inlet and outlet temperatures T 'of the radiator (s) are different. It follows that the lifter 58, while tilting, moves in lateral translation, so that the axis 54, which has been placed in a judicious position, by displacement of the tongue 55 on the lifter 58, moves vertically by a quantity which represents, with great precision, the difference (T-T ') of the two temperatures.
The vertical movements of the axis 54 are transmitted by the connecting rod 21 to the axis 53, and the part 51, cooperating with the yoke 48, acts as a crank and causes the rotation of the shaft 50 and of the sector 47.
This rotates, in turn, by an angle proportional to (T-T '), the pinion 45 which drives, through the hub 44, the drum 42, the stop 41, the lug 39 and of the arm 38, the shaft 37. The latter, thanks to the satellite 36 (fig. 1), the sun gear 32, the gear wheels 22 and 31, moves the cam 26 forward or backward relative to the cam 25, at an angle proportional to the temperature difference (T-T ').
The cams 25 and 26 are, moreover, driven in the same direction and at the same speed by the shaft 101, itself driven by the hot water meter, so that according to an operation, described in the Swiss patent N "296042 not needing to be exposed again, the successive rotations of the totalizer 10 are proportional, on the one hand, to the rotations effected by the shaft 101, therefore to the volumes of hot water having circulated in the installation for a period t2 -:
EMI4.1
and, on the other hand, to the useful offset angle existing between the two cams 25 and 26, that is to say the temperature difference (T-T ').
It can therefore be seen that the rotations of the totalizer 10 clearly measure the quantities of heat dissipated in the radiator or radiators of the installation.
As has been said, the cams 25 and 26 have, in the apparatus described, a particular role which can be explained as follows:
When the difference in the temperatures of the water at the inlet and the outlet of the radiator (s) is very small or, more generally, is accidentally smaller than the lower limit for which the device has been dimensioned, the cam 26 is approaches the cam 25 (fig. 3a to 3d9.
In this approach, and to prevent too small a distance between the cams from causing jamming of the mechanism, the finger 113 of the cam 26, placed in an appropriate position, comes into contact with the finger 111 of the cam 25, and causes the latter to oscillate around the axis 109. Said cam then retracts and finally occupies the position shown in FIG. 3d; the cam 26 is then the only one to act on the plate 18 Fig. 1) and the totalizer movement stops completely, even if the meter continues to run under the action of the hot water flow.
When the difference of the two temperatures (T-T ') increases again, the cam 26 (fig. 3a to 3d) moves in the opposite direction, and the finger 114, in its movement, then meets the finger 111, which causes the oscillation of the cam 25 around its axis 109, in the opposite direction to the previous one. This cam then returns to its normal operating position shown in FIG. 3a.
The spring 115 pressing lightly on the finger 111 integral with the cam 25, stabilizes this cam in one or other of the equilibrium positions that it occupies on the wheel 28, as has just been said.
If, on the contrary, the difference of the two temperatures (T-T ') accidentally exceeds the value which has been fixed as the maximum limit, the cam 26, after a complete revolution, approaches again the cam 25, but by rotating in the opposite direction to that which took place when the temperature difference was smaller than the expected lower limit.
At this moment, the finger 112, judiciously located, comes into contact with the finger 111. The cam 25 already occupying the final position of its oscillation in the same direction cannot move and stops the movement of the cam 26.
The reaction of the parts concerned by this blocking is transmitted to the spiral spring 43 (fig. 2).
This is banded and the hub 44, biased by the pinion 45, can continue its movement freely without any incident occurring in the operation of the device.
The apparatus described allows the use of thermometers which are slightly different from each other, without resulting in an error in the indications of the instrument. Indeed, as has been said, the relative position of the axis 54 on the lifting beam 58 (FIG. 2) can be adjusted at will, which allows it to occupy exactly the desired position in order to make up for the differences which arise. could exist in the races of the two rods 62 and 67 under the action of the same temperature.
Likewise, the rotation of shaft 50, and hence that of shaft 37, can be adjusted exactly to a predetermined value for a given temperature difference (T-T '), by adjusting the radius of the crank. constituted by the part 51 and the yoke 48, this by moving the rod 52 forward more or less which is then immobilized definitively, by the screw 49 (or by any other equivalent means).
In addition, the relative position of the two cams 25 and 26, such as the temperature differences (T-T ') produce the desired rotations of the totalizer 10, is very easily obtained by judiciously acting on the stop screw 41.
In fact, the apparatus is dimensioned and adjusted for calibration, intentionally, so that, as already mentioned, the angle at which the cam 26 advances or recedes relative to the cam 25 is less than that which corresponds to the exact difference (T-T ') to take account of the excess error resulting from the expansion and decrease in viscosity of the hot water passing through the meter. This is obtained by making correspond, thanks to the adjustments, during the calibration, the graduations of the drum 42 with the differences of the temperatures T and T '.
These graduations traced in advance occupy on said drum an angle greater than the calculated theoretical value; the useful angle existing between the cams 25 and 26 is itself set to the exact calculated value.
The members of the apparatus described may occupy positions that are different from those shown in the figures with respect to each other. Shafts, cogwheels, levers, etc., can be vertical, horizontal or oblique. The rotations and translations of. movements can be made in any direction, etc. The shafts, and more generally all the moving parts, can be supported in any way. The length of the connecting rod 21 can be adjustable.
The drive of this device by the meter can be direct or be effected through a magnetic coupling or the like.
Corrections of errors due to the expansion and reduction in viscosity of hot water can be obtained by a reverse method to that indicated, i.e. the graduation of the drum 42 can be strictly exact, but the relative offset of cams 25 and 26 can be adjusted as required.
The role of the two cams 25 and 26 can be reversed, the retractable cam controlling the start of the totalizer.
