Apparatus for forming and denting a tube The object of the present invention is an apparatus for forming and denting a tube.
In the use of tubes with rectangular section and with relatively thin walls, for example in the use of electric waveguides, it is often necessary to make sharp angle bends in these tubes, while keeping the internal dimensions of the tube practically constant during the bending operation. In addition, it is often necessary to produce in one or more walls of the tube, deformations having a determined configuration, for example concavo-convex dents, in order to modify, in a determined manner, the transmission characteristics of the tube. tube.
A first operation, to obtain at sharp angle bends and dents in a part of a tube of the aforementioned type, consists in subjecting the straight tube to preliminary bending, so that one wall of the tube has a sharp bend or a bend with negligible radius of curvature, while a second wall takes the form of 'a smooth curved surface.
A second operation consists of placing the tube thus bent in an apparatus to form and to dent, and to produce the elbow at at sharp angle desired and any other deformation having the desired position and configuration.
The object of the present invention is to provide a device for forming and embossing for performing the second operation described. This apparatus comprises a to forming die which can be slurried to engage against a wall of the tube and to form it, a denting punch, a mandrel suitable for forming and to supporting the interior of the tube, said mandrel being provided at one of its ends with a pivoting cam and a concavity, and synchronized control means for actuating the die, the punch and the mandrel. It is further characterized in that the reciprocating movement of said mandrel causes first of all the engagement of the die against the tube and the formation of the latter, and then the simultaneous actuation of said pivot cam aunt and said to dent.
In the preferred embodiment of the object of the invention, the apparatus comprises a base, several fixed members anchored on the base and together forming the rectangular cavity of a matrix suitable for to receive the tube which must be formed and dented. A die cheek, the active face of which forms a sharp angle, can slide on the base and is capable of producing a to sharp angle deformation in a wall of the tube. A convex dent punch is mounted on the base and can slide thereon to engage against another wall of the tube and y produce a consistent dent. cavo-convex. A slider is mounted on the base and serves to support and form the wall of the tube which corresponds to the die cheek.
One end of the mandrel is further provided with a notched inclined surface on which is to slidably mounted, a to forming member provided with a flat surface and a concavity to support and to form the other wall of the tube. A piston, driven by a reciprocating motion, is mounted on the base and is connected to a block with cam which can slide to engage against the slide and to operate. the convex punch to at the same time as the pivoting arched cam is actuated.

The fixed cheeks of ma trice 18, 19, 21, 22 and 23 are rigidly fixed to the base 12 by appropriate means, and together delimit the rectangular cavity 24 of the die, intended to receive the tube 26 which is to be formed and dented.
The upper wall of the tube 26 has been deleted in fig. 1 to 4, in order to show more clearly the configuration and the respective positions of the different parts of the device.
A convex punch 27, intended to effect the denting, is mounted and can be grouted on the base 12, between the fixed cheeks 19 and 21. The punch 27 has, at one of its ends, a convex surface 28, and, at the other end, an inclined surface 29. A cheek to forming 31 is mounted so to be able to slide on the base 12, between the fixed cheeks 22 and 23, and has, on the side of the rectangle cavity 24, flat faces 32 which intersect ' nt at sharp angles and may come into contact with a wall of the tube 26 which is to be formed.
A wedge 33, which can slide on the base 12, is mounted between the vertical support member 13 and the fixed cheek 23, and presents, to one of its ends, an inclined surface 34, intended to engage against the cheek to form 31. A slider, designated as a whole by the reference numeral 36, is mounted and can slide on the base 12, between the vertical support members 14 and 16, and comprises a body 37 and a collar 38, the latter being removably mounted on one end of the body 37. </ B > This has, at one of its ends, a cylindrical cavity 39,
and is crossed right through by a longitudinal channel 41, which opens into the cylindrical cavity 39. The channel 41 has, in the vicinity of one of its ends, a more narrow which forms an annular seat 50. The body 37 also has a slot 42, disposed longitudinally with respect to the body 37 and opening out in the cylindrical cavity 39. At the other end, the body 37 is provided with an inclined flat surface 43. A channel 40 extends longitudinally to through towards the slider < B> 36 formed by assembling the body 37 and the collar 38. The latter is provided, on one of its faces, with an arm 44 , aligned with corner 33 and capable of engaging against it.
The collar 38 also has a circular window 46, the diameter of which is slightly less than that of the cylindrical cavity 39, </ B > so that when the collar 38 is mounted against the body 37, it forms an annular shoulder 47, adjacent to the cylindrical cavity < B> 39. A mandrel, designated as a whole by the number 48, includes a spindle 55, capable of penetrating into the tube 26, and have an end 49-, of larger diameter, is engaged in the cylindrical cavity 39. The spindle 55 of the mandrel extends to the front of the body 37,
to through circular window 46 of collar 38. The length of end 49 of pin 55 is slightly less to the length of the cylindrical cavity 39, so that the mandrel 48 can perform, relative to the slide 36, a small displacement corresponding to the clearance d </ B> constituted by the difference- of the lengths of the cylindrical cavity and the end of the 55. spindle.
Pin 55 is provided with a longitudinal channel 66, which is aligned with slot 42 of body 37. Pin 55 also has, in the vicinity of the other end, an arcuate cavity 51 and a notch 52 passing right through the spindle 55 and opening into the arcuate cavity 51. An arcuate cam 53 is placed in the arcuate cavity 51 and is mounted on the spindle 55 by means of the pivot 54 (fig. 4). The cam 53 has a flat surface 65, intended to engage against the wall of the tube 26 which is opposite to the cheek 31 of the matrix.
The pin 55 is provided with a longitudinal channel 56, opening into the notch 52 and aligned with the channel 41 of the body 37. The other end of the pin 55 also has a flat sloping surface 57 (fig. 3), over the entire the length of which a notch is made 58.
A sliding punch 59 is provided, on one of its sides, with a tab 61 capable of engaging in the notch 58, and a concave indentation 62, aligned with channel 66 of the spindle 55. The other side of the punch 59 has a flat surface 63 and a concavity 64. When the sliding punch 59 is attached to the spindle 55, and that the mandrel is in the tube 26, in the operating position, the concavity 64 results in correspondence of the convex surface 28 of the punch < B> to dent 27.
A locking pin 67 is secured in the slot 42 of the body 37 and extends to through the channel 66 </ B > of pin 55, and, when pulled out, to the right, looking at fig. 1, of the pin 55 abuts against the right edge of the cylindrical cavity 39, the crank end of the pin 67 extends beyond spindle 55 by a length which is approximately equal to clearance d, and penetrates into recess 62 for lock the sliding punch 59 in the working position on the rod 55.
A with cam 68 block is mounted, in order to be able to slide, on the base 12, between the guide members 14 and 17. It has, at one of its ends, a first inclined surface 69, which engages against the inclined surface 43 of the sliding block 36, and it is provided at the other end with a dovetail extension 75 (fig. 8), </ B> and a second inclined flat surface 71, which can engage against the surface 20 of the guide member 17. The block to < / B> cam 68 also has a longitudinal bore 72 aligned with channel 41 of the body 37, the diameter of the bore 72 being appreciably greater than the larger diameter of channel 41.
A piston 73 can slide on the base 12, between the two guide members 14 and 17, and it is provided, with one of its ends, of a size 80 in dovetail, in which is committed, in a removable manner, the extension 75 of the block to </ B> cam 68 (fig. 8). The other end of the piston 73 is connected, via the shaft 74, to a control motor, not shown, driven by a reciprocating movement. A rod 76 is attached to one end of the piston 73 and extends, through through the bore 72 and channels 41 and 56, in block to cam 68, in body 37 </ B > and in pin 55, respectively.
The rod 76 has an enlarged part 70, which engages against the annular seat 50 of the channel 41 of the slide 36. A cam 77, at sharp angle, is mounted at the other end of the rod 76 and can pivot in the notch 52 to engage with the arcuate cam 53.
A control lever 78 can slide in the channel 40 of the slide 36, so that its front part can come into engagement with the guide member 16 and the fixed cheeks 18 and 21. The left end of the vier 78 (fig. 1) presents a surface inclined plane 79 which engages with the plane surface 29 of the punch to dent 27.
The fixed cheek 18 and the support members 13, 14, 16 and 17 have tapped holes 81, so that retaining plates, not shown, can be fixed to the apparatus by means of screws engaged in the holes 81, to hold the different parts of the apparatus in their relative positions and for supporting the top wall of the tube during the bending and embossing operation.
The apparatus described operates in the following manner. The tube 26, which is to be formed and dented (fig. 6), is placed in the rec tangular cavity 24 of the die, the mandrel being in the position of rest, as indicated in in fig. 1. If desired, a retaining plate (not shown) can be attached to the tube by means of screws engaged in the threaded holes 81 of the cheek < B> 18 and the component 13. The piston 73 is then actuated by the shaft 74, so that the block at cam 68 and slide 36 are moved to the left,
to insert the mandrel 48 into the right part of the tube 26 (fig. 1). When this operation is finished, the mandrel has taken the position indicated at fig. 2. In this position, the right end of mandrel 48 is in contact with the right wall of the cylindrical cavity 39, and the pin 67, protruding from the mandrel. 48, enters the recess 62 to block, in its position, the sliding punch 59. When the slide 36 reaches the position shown to fig. 2, the arm 44 comes into contact with the wedge 33, so that the inclined surface 34 of the latter engages against the cheek to forming 31 ,
which is forced against a wall of the tube 26. In this position (fig. 2), any subsequent move- of the slide 36 </ B> to the left is prevented, and the second inclined surface 71 of the block to cam 68 is disposed on the extension of the inclined surface 20 of the guide member 17. The piston 73 continues to move, the slide 68 is angularly displaces in space 45, thus allowing the rod 76 and the cam at at sharp angle 77, which is integral with it, to move to the left relative to the mandrel 48.
It follows that the cam 77 engages with the arched cam 53 and forces it to pivot in the cavity 51 to come into engagement with an interior part of the wall of the tube which is in contact with the cheek to forming 3 1, which has as a result that the curvature of this wall is changed to a sharp angle (fig. 3).
During the movement of the slide 36 and the mandrel 48, the right end of the latter is engaged against the right surface of the cylindrical cavity 39, and, in this position, the pin 67 passes the mandrel 48 and enters the recess 62, locking the sliding punch 59 in the mandrel.
At the same time as the rod 76 moves to the left and the arcuate cam 58 is actuated, the angular movement of the block to cam < B> 68 in space 45 causes it to engage with the right end of lever 78, which, therefore, is moved to the left, so that the surface inclined 79 of the vier 78 engages against the inclined surface 29 of the punch to dent 27, whose convex surface 28 is pressed against the wall of the tube 26 which is adjacent to the concavity 64 of the sliding punch 59, and produces in this wall, a concavo-convex deformation, that is to say a dent.
The fixed cheeks 19 and 21 of the die co operate with the flat surface 63 of the sliding punch 59 and with the pin 55, respectively, to produce the sharp angle in the other side of the tube 26.
When the forming and embossing operations have been completed, the retaining plate (if used) is removed and the piston 73 is returned to the right, dragging the rod with it. 76, until the enlarged part 70 of this rod abuts against the annular seat 50 of the channel 41 of the slide 36, to move it to the right.
The mandrel 48 is held by friction in the tube 26, while the slide 36 performs a displacement corresponding to the clearance d . It follows that the pin 67 comes out of the recess 62 and releases the sliding punch 59. The slide 36 continuing to to move to the right, the annular shoulder 47 of the binding collar 38 abuts against the enlarged end 49 of the mandrel 48, which is thus driven to the right. The punch 59, therefore, is un- placed in the notch 57 (fig. 4), and clears the dent in the other wall of the tube, thus allowing the mandrel 48 to be extracted without deforming the dent.
The retrograde displacement of the slider, 36 also causes the release of the arm 44 from the wedge 33, to free the cheek to form 31 . The subsequent movement of the block to cam 68 releases the lever 78 from the punch 27. </ B > The cheek 31 and the punch 27 can be taken out of the device.
Fig. 7 shows the finished tube 26 , after the forming and embossing operations carried out as described above.
