I>ab</I> (voir fig.
retard de l'auto-générateur <I>A,</I> courbe 1").
Si, par contre, le déphasage de l'un des auto-généra- teurs subit une perturbation, si, par exemple, le générateur A prend de l'avance par rapport au générateur B et donc par rapport au géné rateur C, la courbe<I>I</I> devenant la courbe<I>l',</I> le point d'intersection X, se déplace vers X'1 et le point d'intersection X;
Installation <B> for </B> production <B> of a </B> fluid <B> under pressure </B> The subject of the invention is an installation for the production of a fluid under pressure comprising at least two free piston machines between the movements of which must be maintained a determined phase shift.
The installation according to the invention is characterized by the fact that similar spaces of the two machines in each of which a gas pressure varies periodically due to the movement of the piston, are connected to a positive device arranged so that it transmits, whenever the momentary pressures in these spaces are equal, a pressure pulse whose value is substantially equal to that of these momentary pressures at the equal instant and which, therefore, varies with the phase shift of the two pistons , the whole being arranged so that, when the value of said pressure pulse deviates from the value corresponding to the desired phase shift,
this impulse actuates a device controlling a factor which influences the frequency of the beating of the free piston of at least one of the two machines, in such a way as to restore the desired phase shift.

Fig. 8 is a diagram showing, as a function of time, the variation <B> de </B> the pressure in the return energy accumulators of the auto-generators of the installation of FIG. 6.
The installation shown in. fig. 1 presents two auto-generators each comprising an engine cylinder 1 provided with intake 2 and exhaust 3 openings, these openings being controlled by the driving element 4 of the free piston.
The motor element 4 is integral with a compressor element 5 which constitutes, with the motor element 4, the free piston. The compressor element 5 works in a cylinder 6 which is divided by this element into two compartments including the one .6a <I> (6a '), </I> located on the outside, that is to say on the side. opposite to the one where the engine cylinder 1 is located, constitutes a pneumatic return energy accumulator, while the compartment 6b, located on the inside of the compressor element 5, constitutes the compressor space, provided with valves d7as - piration 7 and repression 8.
The engine cylinders 1 of the auto-generators are located inside a housing 9 which is common to the two auto-generators <I> A </I> and <I> B </I> of the installation. . The air which is first compressed in the compressor spaces 6b and then delivered through the discharge valves 8 is stored in the casing 9 from where it enters, as supply and purge air, into the one or the other of the engine cylinders 1 of the generators <I> A </I> and <I> B,
</I> as soon as in one or the other of these cylinders the intake or openings 2 are discovered by the corresponding driving element.
The combustion gases, at the end of the expansion stroke of the engine cylinder 4, have a pressure, above atmospheric pressure, corresponding to the pressure of the air in the crankcase 9. These combustion gases form with the scavenging air a hot pressurized mixture which exits through the exhaust openings of each engine cylinder 1, to be brought, via an exhaust duct 10, into a tank or to a receiver of this gas hot under pressure which is common to the two auto-generators <I> A </I> and <I> B </I> of the installation. It is this mixture of pressurized air and hot pressurized combustion gas which constitutes the pressurized fluid which must be produced by this installation.
It should also be noted that the driving part of each auto-generator works according to the two-stroke Diesel cycle, the fuel being injected into the engine cylinder by means of an injector 11 which is supplied, at the time desired, by an injection pump not shown in the drawing.
In order to keep the pressure variations in the exhaust duct 10 to a minimum, a phase shift of 180,) is maintained between the movements of the pistons of the generators, that is to say that the movements of the pistons of the two generators <I> A </I> and <I> B </I> must always be in opposite directions.
To ensure this phase shift, the installation comprises a device arranged so that it transmits, each time the momentary pressures in the accumulators 6a and 6n 'of the auto-generators <I> A </I> and <I> B </I> are equal, a pressure pulse whose value is sensibly equal to that of these pressures at the moment of equality.
This device comprises two control drawers 12 and 13 which are both subject to the pressures prevailing in the return energy accumulators from two auto-generators <I> A </I> and <I> at the same time. B. </I> The drawer 12 slides in a cylindrical housing 14 in the wall from which opens a duct 15 which, through another duct 16, is constantly in communication with the interior of the accumulator 6a of the auto-generator A.
Another conduit 17 also opens onto the inner wall of the housing 14, opposite the conduit 15. A groove 18, formed in the drawer 12, is capable of making the conduits 15 and 17 communicate with each other, when the groove 18 is located just in front of the mouths of two conduits 15 and 17.
The slide 12 carries, at its ends, pistons 19 and 20 which work in cylinders 21, 22. The cylinder 21 communicates, through the conduit 16, constantly with the interior of the energy accumulator of return of generator A, while cylinder 22 communicates constantly, by means of a conduit 23, with the interior of the accumulator of auto-generator B.
Under the influence of the instantaneous pressures prevailing in the two accumulators, the spool 12 is generally in one or the other of its final positions which are determined by the stop of one or the other of the pistons. 19, 20 against the inner bottom of their respective cylinder dre. In each of these final positions, the groove 18 is outside the plane in which the mouths of the conduits 15 and 17 are located, so that there is no. communication between conduits 15 and 17.
This communication takes place only for a short time, during the movement of the spool 12 from one of its final positions to the other final position.
The construction of the distributor spool 13 is similar to that of the spool 12. This spool is provided with two grooves 24 and 25 and two pis tons 26 and 27. The piston 26 works in a cylinder 28 which communicates through the conduit 16 with the inside <B> of </B> the accumulator of the self-generator A, while the piston 27 works in a cylinder 29 which communicates, through the conduit 23, with the interior of the accumulator of the auto-generator B.
In the wall of the housing 30 open, on the one hand, two channels 17a and 17b connected to the duct 17 and, opposite the orifices of these channels 17a and 17b, open into the housing 30, two other ducts 31 and 32. The axial distance between the orifices of the channels 17a and 17b, equal to that between the openings through which the ducts 31 and 32 emerge, is different from that which separates the grooves 24 and 25 from each other. Stops determine the two positions of. end of dispenser drawer 13.
In one of these final positions (that indicated by fig. 1), the groove 24 establishes a communication between the channel <I> 17a and </I> the conduit 31, while, in this position, the channel 17b is separated from the duct 32. The reverse takes place in the other final position of the distributor spool 13, that is to say that the channel 17a is separated from the duct 31 and that the channel 17b and the duct 32 communicate. with each other.
So that the movement of the distributor spool 13 takes place after the movement of the member 12, it is subjected to the action of a brake consisting of a shoe 33 which is supported by a spring 34 against the side wall. of the drawer 13 and which aims to delay the movement of the latter member.
The drawer 12 remains in its final position shown in FIG. 1 as long as the instantaneous pressures reigning in the accumulator of the auto-generator B and which acts on the piston 20 are greater than the instantaneous pressures reigning in the accumulator of the auto-generator A and acting on the worse your 19.
The variation of the instantaneous pressures is represented by FIG. 3 in which the curves <I> 1 and 11 </I> represent the pressure variations in the respective accumulators of generator <I> A </I> and generator <I> B </I> when those -ci have the desired phase shift of 1800, while the curve l 'corresponds to a disturbed regime of generator A.
After the pressures in the two accumulators have passed through their equal value (point Xd o <I> u </I> X 'in fig. 3), the situation is reversed and the drawer 12 passes into its other final position, thus putting in communication, for a very short period, the conduits 15 and 17.
In this short period, the pressure which currently prevails in the accumulator of the auto-generator A and which is practically equal to the equal pressure (point X, or X ') is transmitted, via channel 17a, in conduit 31 which, because of the delay in movement of spool 13, still communicates, via groove 24, with said channel 17a.
Shortly thereafter, when the rising pressure prevailing in the accumulator of generator A became one greater <I> Op </I> than the pressure prevailing in the accumulator of generator <I> B </I> (see fig. 3 instant Yd), the slide 13 overcoming the friction exerted by the pad 33 also moves to its third final position in which this slide interrupts the communication between the channel 17a and the duct 31 and establishes communication between channel 17b and path 32.
When the pressures become equal again in the two accumulators (point Xb or <I> X "), </I> the slide 12 returns to its old position opening, for a short time, the communication between the conduits 15 and 17 and thus allowing the transmission of the pressure p (corresponding to point X.) or p2 (corresponding to point X ") in the duct 32 which, at this moment, following the delay in the movement of the spool 13, is connected, by through gorge 25, at canal <I> 17b. </I>
Fig. 4 schematically shows the effect and the mutual relation of the movements of the two drawers 12 and 13. The broken line indicates the positions, as a function of time, of the slide 12 when the phase shift is correct (points of intersection Xa, Xb, X,). The horizontal portions a 'of this line a indicate the periods in which the drawer 12 is in the final position indicated by FIG. 1.
The horizontal portions a "indicate the periods in which the drawer 12 is in the other final position and the portions angled at" 'indicate the periods in which the drawer 12 moves from one of its final positions. in the other end position.
The broken line b of the diagram of fig. 4 illustrates the movements of the distributor drawer 13.
The horizontal portions b 'of this line b indicate the periods in which the spool 13 has the final position indicated by FIG. 1 in which the groove 24 communicates the channel 17a with the duct 31. The portions b "indicate the periods during which the spool 13 has the final affixed position and the portions b" 'indicate the periods in which the spool is moves from one of its final positions into the other.
The pressure pulses transmitted in the duct 31 and which correspond to the pressure equalities during the outward stroke of the generator A leave the speed of the latter generator unchanged, if they correspond to the pressure p. On the other hand, they cause a slowing down of generator A, when they correspond to a pressure equal to greater than p, and they cause an acceleration of the generator when they are less than p. The pressure pulses transmitted in the duct 32 act in a corresponding way on the generator B.
To this end, these pulses are made to act on so-called stabilizer devices, which control the masses of air contained in the respective accumulators 6a, 6a ', as a function of the pressure prevailing in the housing 9 and as a function of the average pressure in the accumulator.
Each of these stabilizers comprises a drawer 35 (35 ') in the form of a box which is divided by an internal partition 36 provided with a check valve 37, into two chambers 38 and 39, the check valve 37 being arranged in such a way that an air flow is only possible from the chamber 39 to the chamber 38.
The slide 35 (35 ') is housed in a guide bush 40 and this guide bush, together with the slide, is placed inside the accumulator of each generator. In addition, the socket 40 of each generator communicates via a conduit 41 with the casing 9. In the wall of each compartment 38 and 39 are formed openings 42 and 43. When the drawer 35 has the position indicated in FIG. 1, the two series of openings 42 and 43 are vented closed by the socket 40 and the air content of the energy accumulator remains unchanged.
If the spool 35 is moved upwards, so that the openings 43 communicate with the duct 41 and the openings 42 communicate with the interior of the accumulator, a certain quantity of air can enter, from the housing. 9, passing through compartments 39 and 38, into the accumulator, while the flow of air in the opposite direction is prevented by the check valve 37. The accumulator is therefore supplied with air in the periods when the pressure inside it is lower than the pressure prevailing in the crankcase.
Conversely, when the drawer 35 is moved downwards, so that the openings 42 communicate with the interior <B> of the </B> duct 41, while the openings 43 communicate with the interior of the accumulator, a certain quantity of air in the latter can escape through the openings 43 of the chamber 39 towards the chamber 38 and through the openings 42 towards the casing 9, while an air re-entry into the accumulator is made impossible by the check valve 37.
In this last position of the spool 35, only a reduction in the mass of air in the accumulator can take place during the periods during which the pressure in the accumulator is greater than that prevailing in the casing 9.
The spool 35 (35 ') is controlled by a piston 44 (44') on which act, on the one hand, the pressure prevailing in the housing 9 and which is brought to the lower side of this piston at the of a duct 45, the action of this pressure being supported by a spring 45a, and, on the other hand, by means of the throttle opening 46, a pressure which corresponds to the average of the pressures prevailing from in the accumulator during a complete cycle.
The piston of each of the stabilizers 44, 35'-44 'is also subjected to the pressure pulses supplied respectively by the conduits 31 and 32. For this purpose, the pis ton 44 (44') is integral with a second piston 47 (47 ') which works through a cylinder 48 (48'), into which are introduced the pressure pulses supplied respectively by the conduits 31 and 32.
The stabilizer thus arranged works normally as a function of the operating pressure and of the stroke length of the corresponding autogenerator, when the pressure p prevails in cylinder 48 (48 ') (phase shift 180 ^), this pressure being practically equal to a pressure equal to the average of the pressures prevailing in the accumulator 6a (6a ').
On the other hand, if, as a result of an unwanted phase shift between the movements of the pistons of the auto-generators <I> A and B, </I> the pressure pulses supplied by the conduits 31 and 32 cease to correspond to p , these modifications cause the reestablishment of the desired phase shift of 180. Indeed, if, as a result of the displacement of curve 1 towards curve l ', the pressure in cylinder 48 increases above p, to become <I> pl,
</I> This pressure increase causes the slide 35 to move such that a certain quantity of air is evacuated out of the energy accumulator 6a, which causes this generator to slow down.
At the same time, due to the decrease in the pressure in the cylinder 48 'which, as a result of the unwanted phase shift becomes, in the case considered, equal to <I> to </I> p2, the spool 35' is moved into the direction which brings in additional air from the housing 9 into the accumulator 6a ', which causes the acceleration of the piston crews of generator B.
As a result of the slowing down of generator <I> A </I> and the acceleration of generator <I> B, </I> the desired phase shift of 1800 is quickly re-established.
In a variant, instead of acting both in the direction of slowing down on one of the generators and in the direction of acceleration on the other generator, we could limit ourselves to acting only on the one of the two generators, in the desired sense.
In the latter case, one would use, for example, only the pressure pulses corresponding to point Xa or X ', to control the speed of the auto-generator A and one would leave unused the pressure pulses corresponding to point Xh or <I> X ". </I>
In another variant, it would be possible to use, for controlling the stabilizer or stabilizers, not the integral value of the pressures <I> pl </I> or p2, but the difference between the pressures <I> p and pl </ I> or between p. and p2. In this variant, a pressure equal to p would be made to act constantly on the outer face of the pistons 47 and 47 '.
In the variant, to which FIG. 2, instead of letting the pressure pulses brought by the conduits 31 and 32 act directly on the stabilizers of the self-generators <I> A </I> and <I> B, </I> these pressure pulses are made to act. pressure indirectly on said stabilizers. In this variant, the conduits 31 and 32 open into a cylinder 49, on either side of a piston 50 working in said cylinder.
This piston 50 is connected on each side to a spring 51 (51 ') and each of these springs acts by means of an elbow lever 52 (52') on a rod 53 (53 ') which is fixed to the piston. 44 (44 '). If the two conduits 31 and 3 # 2 bring the same pressure p (case of phase shift of 1800) on both sides of the piston 50, the latter remains in its average position in which it has no influence on the operation of the stabilizers . However, if, for example, the duct 31 brings on the left side of the piston 50 the pressure <I> pl </I> and if, at the same time, the duct 32 brings, on the right side of the piston 50,
the pressure p2, this piston, by the difference of these two pressures, is moved to the right, which has the effect of compressing the spring 51 'and of relaxing the spring 51. The spool 35 is thus pushed downwards, this which corresponds to the evacuation of a certain quantity of air out of the mattress 6a, while the drawer 35 'is pushed upwards, which causes the introduction of a certain quantity of air into the mattress 6d. The effect is therefore the same as that described above.
The installation shown in fig: 5, comprises two auto-generators <I> A </I> and <I> B </I> similar to those of the installation of fig. 1 and a device comprising two drawers 12 and 13, the operation of which is similar to that of drawers 12 and 13 of FIG. 1 ,. and which, each time there is equality of the momentary pressures in the accumulators 6a and 6a ', transmits through one of the conduits 31 and 32 a pressure pulse equal to the instantaneous pressure at the moment of equality. These conduits 31 and 32 open on either side of a piston 55 into a cylinder 54.
The piston 55 is held normally in a middle position, using springs 56 and 57. This piston is linked to a distributor 58 which controls communication between the accumulators 6a and 6d of the two generators <I> A </ I> and <I> B. </I> This communication has three spaces 59, 60 and 61.
The space 59 is in constant communication with the accumulator 6a of the generator A and communicates with the space 60, on the one hand, through a check valve 62 which opens only in the direction going from the space. 59 towards the space 60 and, on the other hand, by an opening 63 controlled by the distributor 58, the central part of which is provided with a groove 58Q.
The space 61 is in constant communication with the accumulator 6a 'of the generator B and communicates with the space 60, on the one hand, by means of a check valve 64 which opens only in the direction going. from space 61 to space 60 and, on the other hand, by an opening 65 also controlled by distributor 58.
As long as the same pressure p (phase shift equal to 180) acts on both sides of the piston 55, the distributor 58 remains in its average position shown in FIG. 5, position for which it interrupts all communication between the accumulators 6a and 6d. However, as soon as a phase modification occurs, as soon as, for example, the autogenerator A takes the lead in relation to the autogenerator B, the pressure sampled in the accumulator 6a which acts on the upper side of the piston 55 will be equal <I> to pl,
</I> while the pressure taken from the accumulator 6d and which acts on the lower side of the piston 55 will be equal to p2. Since <I> pl </I> is larger than p. ,, the distributor 58 will be moved downwards, or thus opening the opening 65, which has the effect of allowing the transfer of a certain quantity air from the accumulator 6a into the accumulator 6a '.
Therefore, auto-generator A which was ahead will be slowed down, while auto-generator B which was late will be accelerated, so that the desired phase shift of 180) will be restored.
If the auto-generator B had taken the lead compared to the auto-generator A, the higher pressure <I> pl </I> would have acted on the lower side of the piston 55 and the lower pressure p .2 would have acted on the upper side of the piston 55. The distributor 58 would have made an upward movement, thus opening the opening 63, which would have had the effect of transferring a certain quantity of air from the valve. accumulator 6d in accumulator 6a. The desired phase shift of 180 would thus also have been restored.
In the installation of fig. 5, only generator A is provided with a stabilizer which, in this case, is sufficient. In fact, each action of this stabilizer on generator A causes a certain disturbance of the phase shift, a disturbance which has the effect of bringing about the equalization of the quantities of air in the accumulators of the two generators by the action of the dis tributor 58.
The installation shown in fig. 6 comprises three self-generators <I> A, B, </I> C with free piston whose construction details correspond to those described above and represented by figs. 1 and 5. In this installation, however, the generator housings do not communicate with each other. The three discharge conduits 10 deliver the hot and pressurized engine gases into a common manifold 66.
The installation is fitted with three pressure pulse transmitting devices <I> ab, </I> <I> bc, </I> ca, the device <I> ab </I> being actuated by pressure instantaneous pressure reigning in the accumulators of the generators <I> A and B, </I> the device <I> bc </I> being actuated by the instantaneous pressures prevailing in the accumulators of the generators <I> B </ I > and C and the AC device being actuated by the instantaneous pressures prevailing in the accumulators of generators A and C.
This is why the duct 67 which communicates with the interior of the accumulator of the auto-generator A comprises three branches, one, 68, which brings the device <I> ab </I> the pressure to measure and pass through it at the time of equal pressure, a second, 69, which causes the instantaneous pressures in the accumulator of the auto-generator A to act on the spool 12 and the distributor drawer 13 of the <I> ab </I> device (see fig. 7), and a third, 70, which makes these same pressures act on the drawer 1.2 and on the distributor drawer 13 of the ca device.
In a similar way, the pressures re gaining in the accumulator of the auto-generator B are brought, through the conduits 67 ', 68', 69 'and 70' to the devices <I> bc </I> and < I> ab. </I> Finally, also in a similar way, the pressures re gaining in the accumulator of the auto-generator C are brought, by the conduits 67 ", 68", 69 "and 70" to the AC and <I> bc devices. </I>
The devices <I> ab, bc </I> and ccc have a construction similar to that of the corresponding device of fig. 1. However, the distributor spool 13 comprises, for reasons explained below, only one groove 71 which communicates with each other in the final left position (see FIG. 7) a duct 72 (corresponding to the conduit 17 of Fig. 1) and a conduit 73, the latter serving to transmit the equal pressure pulse supplied by conduit 67 and which has passed through the groove of spool 12.
The aforementioned duct 72 exits, by one of its ends, in the housing of the drawer 12 opposite the duct 68 and, by its other end, in the housing of the drawer 13 opposite the duct 73.
The delay of the distributor spool 13 is obtained by means of a throttle opening 74, 75 between each of the conduits 69 and 70 'and the corresponding cylinder of relatively large volume 76, 77 in which the piston 26, 27 respectively works. of the distributor drawer 13.
The throttle openings 74, 75 have the effect of delaying the establishment of the pressures in the cylinders 76 and 77, so that the actuation of the distributor spool 13 takes place with a certain delay, compared to the actuation of the spool. 12. The effect is therefore the same as that of the friction pad 25 of FIG. 1.
The diagram in fig. 8 shows, as a function of time, the variation of the pressures which prevail in the accumulators of the various auto-generators <I> A, B </I> and C. Curve 1 represents the variations of pressures in the accumulator of generator A. The curve It represents these same variations for generator <I> B </I> and curve <I> III </I> represents these same variations for generator C. The position of these three curves compared to the others corresponds to the case where these three auto-generators work with the desired phase shift of 1200.
The intersection points X1 (between the curves <I> I </I> and 11), X3 (between the curves <I> 1I1 </I> and 1), X (between the curves <I> II </I> and <I> I11) </I> are therefore, for the aforesaid desired phasing, all at the same level corresponding to a pressure of equality p.
It should also be noted that, contrary to what happens in the installations with two auto-generators phase-shifted by 180 which have been described, in the case of the installation with three auto-generators phase-shifted by 1200 of FIG. 6, the second point of intersection designated respectively by Xal, Xa, and Xa3, between them determined curves, is not at the same level as the first point Xl, <I> X ,,
</I> X3. This is why only one of these points can be used for maintaining the phase shift of the autogenerators and not both at the same time. In the installation shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, only the pressures of equality corresponding to the intersection points <I> XI, X ,, </I> X3 are used. This is why the distributor drawer 13 (fig. 7) is provided with only one groove 71.
If it is the device <I> ab, </I> this groove does not allow passage, in the position shown in FIG. 7 and during the movement of the spool 12 from left to right, that the equal pressure which corresponds to the point <I> XI </I> (pressure <I> p </I>) when the phase shift of the auto-generators <I> A </I> and <I> B </I> (curves <I> I </I> and <I> II) </I> is correct, or at the point of intersection X'1 (pressure <I> pl, </I> advance of the autogenerator <I> A, </I> curve <I> l '), </I> or at point X " 1 (pressure p3,
auto-generator delay <I> A, </I> curve 1 "). The effect is analogous for the device <I> bc </I> corresponding to generator B and for the positive AC device corresponding to the generator C. The pressure pulse received by the pipe 73 (device <I> ab), </I> 73 '(device <I> bc) </I> or 73 "(device ca) acts on the upper face a piston 47 (47 ', 47 ") integral with the piston 44 of the stabilizer s V, s") of the corresponding generator.
The underside of each piston 47 (47 ', 47 ") is subjected to a pressure corresponding to the average of the impulse pressures which act on the front surfaces of these same pistons and which are brought to each piston by, respectively, the conduit 73, 73 ', 73 ". For this purpose, the two compartments av and ar which are formed inside each cylinder 78 (78 ', 78 ") by the piston 47 (47', 47") communicate by means of a duct. bypass 79 (79 ', 79 ") of reduced section.
In addition, the ar <I> compartments of </I> three cylinders 78 (78 ', 78 "). Are interconnected by a manifold pipe 80. As long as the equal pressures brought by the pipes 73 (73 ', 73 ") in the compartments av are all equal to p, that is to say as long as the three generators <I> A, B </I> and C are working with the desired phase shift, the pressure in the compartments ar also being equal to p, the pistons 47, 47 '47 "being in equilibrium have no influence on the stabilizers s, s', s".
If, on the other hand, the phase shift of one of the auto-generators is disturbed, if, for example, generator A takes the lead with respect to generator B and therefore with respect to generator C, the curve <I> I </I> becoming the curve <I> l ', </I> the point of intersection X, moves towards X'1 and the point of intersection X;
moves towards X "'3. The equal pressure transmitted by the device <I> ab </I> in the av compartment of the cylinder 78 is then equal to <I> at pl, </I> while the pressure of equality transmitted by the device ca in the compartment av of the cylinder 78 "is then equal to p3. The average pressure in the compartments ar remaining substantially equal to p, the difference Apl between <I> pl </I> and p acts in such a way, by means of the piston 47,
on the stabilizer s that this causes a certain quantity of air to be evacuated out of the accumulator of generator A, which causes this generator to slow down, while the difference between <I> p </I> and p3 acts through the intermediary of the piston 47 "on the stabilizers", so as to cause an acceleration of the generator C. This acceleration is reflected on the device bc so as to moderate the acceleration of the generator C and to cause a slight ac celeration of generator B.
As a result of these decelerations and accelerations, the desired phase shift is re-established between the three generators.
It can therefore be seen that the devices <I> ab, bc </I> and ca have an operation similar to that of the pulse transmitting device represented by FIG. 1. In order to be able to obtain, in the event of shutdown of one of the three auto-generators, a phase shift of 180 ,, of the two generators which remain in operation, the conduits 67, 67 'and 67 "are connected together to places situated upstream of the branch lines of the conduits 70, 70 'and 70 ", by a connecting conduit 81 constituting a closed circuit.
Three-way stopcocks 82, 82 ', 82 "are interposed at the places where the conduit 81 intersects with each of the conduits 67, 67' and 67".
When the three auto-generators <I> A, B </I> and C are running, each of these taps 82, 82 ', 82 "has the position indicated by fig. 6, that is to say that the pressures of the accumulator of each auto-generator are transmitted to the respective pulse transmitting devices <I> ab, bc, </I> ca, and the transverse link between the conduits 67, 67 ', 67 " is cut.
On the other hand, if one of the auto-generators, for example the auto-generator C, is stopped, the corresponding valve 82 "is turned to give it the position indicated in fig. 6a. In this last position, the valve 82 "interrupts the pipe 67" but establishes communication between the part of the pipe 81 which is to the right of the valve 82 and in which the pressures of the accumulator of the auto-generator A prevail, with the part of the conduit 68 "to which the conduit 70" is connected.
Consequently, the device <I> bc </I> which, when the three auto-generators were running, worked according to the pressures in the accumulators of generators B and C, now works according to the pressures prevailing in the generator. the mattresses of the generators <I> A </I> and <I> B, </I> that is to say according to the same pressures which also act on the device <I> ab. </I> However , the movements of the drawers 13 of the two devices <I> ab </I> and <I> bc </I> are offset by 180, #, so that in the event of a phase shift, the auto-generator which is late is accelerated and the auto-generator which is ahead is delayed to bring the two auto-generators back to the desired phase shift of 180th.
The set of devices <I> ab </I> and <I> bc a </I> therefore, this time, an operation quite similar to that of the pulse transmitter device shown in FIG. 1 and having two grooves in order to bring, alternately, the pressure pulses to one and the other of the two generators between which a phase shift <B> of </B> 180 ,, must be maintained. A completely similar operation would be obtained if one had stopped the generator A or the generator B and if one had given, to the valve 82 or 82 'corresponding to the stopped generator, the position indicated by FIG. 6a.
The machines of the installations described could also be motor-compressors or liquid pumps, and could also be machines with opposing free pistons, the driving elements of which move in reverse in the same engine cylinder.
