Washing machine The present invention relates to a washing machine comprising a container for the washing liquid and a combustion chamber under the container for heating the water therein by combustion.
The washing machine according to the invention comprises two ducts for the hot combustion gases leaving the combustion chamber and extending upwards, in contact with opposite end walls of the container, so that these gases of hot combustion come into contact with the bottom and the two opposite end walls of the container.
In a preferred embodiment, the washing machine according to the invention is of the type described in Swiss patent No. 256216 comprising a stirrer in the form of a disc located near one of the side walls of the container. In this case, the agitator is located adjacent to one of the side walls which is not occupied by the ducts.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the washing machine which is the subject of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a partially sectioned side elevational view of this washing machine. Fig. 2 is a perspective view from below of the rear of the washing machine container, combustion chamber and ducts, removed from the rest of the machine.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view, from below, from the front, similar to FIG. 2. The fia. 4 is a sectional side elevational view of the wash vessel, combustion chamber, and ducts.
Fig. 5 is a sectional section taken through line 5-5 of FIG. 4.
As shown in fig. 1, the washing machine comprises a container for the washing liquid, generally designated 10, mounted in an outer casing 11 to which it is fixed at its upper edge by means of rivets passing through a flange 12 facing towards the end. 'outside. The receptacle is generally rectangular in plan view, comprising two parallel vertical side walls 13, one of which has a shallow circular housing and in which is mounted a rotary stirrer 14 in the form of a disc as shown in FIG. 4.
The agitator 14 has six radial ribs 15 as described in the patent mentioned above; it is mounted on a horizontal axis carrying a pulley 16 fixed to the outside of the container and connected by a belt 17 to an electric motor 18 mounted below the container on the base of the outer casing 11.
As shown in elevation in FIGS. 1 and 4, the container has a generally rectangular shape having a cut angle 19 forming an inclined wall and another rounded angle 20. This rounded angle will be designated as being in front of the container. Consequently, by virtue of the rounded angle 20 towards the bottom of the front end wall 21, the container has a bottom 22 which slopes very slightly downwards and backwards to a point situated slightly at the bottom. middle rear, thence inclined wall 19 extends upward at an angle of about 450 to meet rear end wall 23.
Thus the front and rear walls as well as the bottom and inclined walls are all formed of a single strip of metal having along its edge an outwardly facing flange 24 which is welded to the edges of the two side walls.
The heating means comprise a combustion chamber generally designated 28 fitted under the bottom 22 of the container and a pair of sheaths 29 and 30, the sheath 29 extending at a rounded angle 20 and along the length of the tube. wall 21 and the sheath 30 having a hole under the cut angle 19 and the rear wall 23. As shown in FIG. 4, the combustion chamber has a generally triangular shape. Its front wall 31 has an opening 32 through which gas flames can be directed into the combustion chamber from a horizontal tubular burner 33 located just in front of the opening and comprising a row of holes provided with a nozzle. 34.
One end 35 of the pipe forming the gas burner is freely mounted in a hole made in a support 36 fixed to one side of the combustion chamber 28. The other end of the burner pipe is curved as shown in Figs. . 2 and 3, to form an elbow 37, the end of which (see fig. 1) extends through a hole 38 made in the front wall of the outer casing 11 and is provided with a nut 39 to hold it in place. position and connect it to a gas supply line.
As shown in fig. 2 and 3, an ignition tube 45 extends parallel to the burner duct 33 through a side wall of the combustion chamber as well as the adjacent side wall of the outer casing 11 to allow easy ignition. the gas.
The combustion gases can leave the combustion chamber 28 as shown in FIG. 4, passing either towards the low rear end 46 in the rear duct 30, or through an opening 47 similar to a slit formed in the front wall 31 of the combustion chamber above the burner and leading to the front sheath 29. As shown in FIG. 3, the combustion chamber has a general L-shape seen in plan. Its rear end 46 of low height widens over the entire width of the container 10 so as to communicate over this entire width with the rear sheath 30.
The inner surface of each of the ducts is provided by the envelope of the washing machine. The outer surface of the rear sheath is provided by a baffle plate 48 extending generally parallel to the inclined wall 19 and the rear wall 23 of the container, and having edges 49 protruding towards the container to form a shirt. Similarly, the front sheath 29 is provided by a deflector plate 50 having an inclined part and a vertical part roughly following the rounded angle 20 and the front wall 21 of the container, this plate being provided with flanges 51 to form a closed shirt. The combustion chamber and the ducts are fixed to the flange 24 of the washing container by means of several support irons 53.
As shown in fig. 5, the top of each baffle plate of each sheath is provided with several ribs 52 which act as spacers to ensure that the space between the baffle plate and the wall of the container is maintained in the event of deformation due to the warm-up of one of these parts.
Each sheath is provided at its upper end with a short section 56 which extends outwardly from the casing and as shown in FIG. 1 passes through an opening in the outer casing where it is surrounded by an ornamental metal plate forming an opening 57, which is spaced from the casing for cooling and serves to reduce the possibility of contact between the user's hands and the warm sleeve.
To allow the container to be emptied from the vage, a pump 58 is placed under the container and driven by means of a friction wheel using the electric motor 18, the inlet of the pump being connected to the bottom. 22 of the container by means of a drain pipe 59 of rubber. As shown in fig. 2 and 3, this mouth drain pipe on the right side of the rear part of the flat bottom 22, that is to say very close to where the bottom 22 and the inclined wall converge 19. The combustion chamber seen in plan has the shape of an L precisely to allow to place the pipe 59 inside the branches of the L.
As has been mentioned, the combustion chamber 28 towards the rear widens over the entire width of the container, a deflector 60 being provided to spread the hot combustion gases over this entire width as shown in FIG. 4. The front sleeve 29 also widens outwardly, so that it extends over the entire width of the container.
The walls of the container may be lined with a suitable insulating material such as asbestos and a protective plate lined with a similar material may be arranged around the drain pipe to protect it from heat.
