la fig. 29 est une vue faite par 29-29 de la fig. 11.

      The present invention relates to a stapler comprising a magazine made from a single piece of sheet metal, the upper part of which is open, which can receive through this open upper part a strip of staples and which comprises a front wall, characterized by that it comprises side walls spaced apart from one another of the store, which have front ends connected integrally with the aforementioned front wall and normally diverging elastically away therefrom; cores spaced apart from each other forming an integral part of the lower parts of these side walls and located at a distance from the front wall;

The stapler designated as a whole by SM comprises a useful base B on which is articulated the pivoting arm carrying the staples and designated as a whole by SA. The base B is preferably made of sheet metal and its central part has a suitable depression constituting an intermediate wall 10 which has a central seat 11 extending above the level of the front end 12 and the rear end 13 of this. wall. Mutually spaced ribs 14 protrude above wall 10 of which they are an integral part.

A lip 15 which connects the front ends of the ribs 14 extends some distance above the front end 12 having a depression in the intermediate wall 10 and forms therewith a space 16 (Fig. 11). A smaller core 17 (fig. 10) which extends rearwardly of the rear part 13 (of which it forms an integral part) of the wall 10 is offset upwards and connects with a flared part towards the top. rear 18 which is an integral part of the rear end of base B.

Transversely spaced upwardly facing flanges 19 are integral with the body of the base B and are aligned longitudinally with the spaced apart ribs 14. The core 17 and the flared portion 18 are substantially spaced from the lower portions of the oriented flanges 19. upwards and delimit spaced openings 20. For the purpose of reinforcement, there is provided on each flange 19 a hollow boss 21 extending outwardly.

The base B carries the articulated post designated as a whole by FS (fig. 10), which is obtained in one piece from a sheet metal element and which has a rear wall 22 comprising a crown part. 23 curved upwards and forwards, against which are arranged the legs 24, transversely spaced from each other of my FS. A web 25 inclined downwards and forwards, which s 'extends downward from crown portion 23, connects with resiliently biased shoulders 26 extending upward and rearward from a flat plate 27.

One can consider the reduced core 17 and the flared part of the base B as an offset tie rod, which connects the rear part of the depressed part 13 to the rear part of the outer rim RR and which partly delimits the mutually spaced openings of clearance 20.

A positioning slot 28 made in the rear part of the base B near the flared part 18 receives a projection 29 of substantially corresponding cross section. Then, the articulated post FS is rotated downwards, which automatically brings a small locating protrusion 30, which extends from the rear part 13 of the bottom wall 10 of the base, into a small hollow 31 of the flat plate 27 of the articulated frame FS.

In this mutual arrangement, the plate 27 is also automatically placed and housed in a recess R formed by the spaced ribs 14 and the rear part 13 of the lower wall 10 of the base. Then, the projection 29 which is substantially perpendicular to the rear wall 22 of the hinged frame FS is spot welded at the base. Thanks to this arrangement, the articulated post FS is placed in position on the base and effectively connected and anchored to it.

Then, we assemble the plate (represented as a whole by AC) carrying the anvil with the base B to which it is fixed. In this regard, it will be noted that the plate AC comprises at its front end a lower tab 32 inclined downwards which is housed in the slot 16 located under the lip 15 of the base.

The width of the AC plate is substantially equal to the distance between the spaced ribs 14. It follows that these ribs automatically put the AC plate in position when it -ci pivots downwards in the direction of the wall 10 and, due to this action, in the opening 33 of a tab 34 oriented towards the rear of the AC plate automatically enters the small positioning hollow 31 oriented upwards from the flat plate 27 of the articulated post FS. Then, the AC plate of the anvil, the plate 27 of the articulated FS and the lower wall 13 of the base are effectively fixed by means of a rivet appropriate running through these parts.

As will be understood, the AC plate of the anvil has at its front end a suitable indented part 40 capable of folding down the branches of the first staple S of a row of staples SS ( fig. 11) when it comes out of the stapler.

Before describing in particular the structure of the swivel arm SA, it should be mentioned on this subject that after having completely assembled this arm and after having completely assembled the base B, its post FS and the plate AC </ I > carrying the anvil, you can easily mount as desired the SA swivel arm fitted with the cap C on the my FS so that this arm can pivot there. To this end, it will be noted that aligned openings 41 are made in the rear ends of the spaced side walls 42 of the magazine M and that mutually spaced branches 44 extend downwardly from these sides. The branches 44 have aligned openings 45.

The side walls 42 and the branches 44 of the store M overlapping so as to be able to see the transversely spaced legs 24 of the amount FS rotate. The legs 24 com carry aligned openings 46.

Spaced tabs 47 of the cap C also overlap so that the mutually spaced side walls 42 of the magazine can be rotated. The tabs 47 of the cover C have aligned openings 48 (Figs. 9 and 13) alignable with the spaced openings 41 of the side walls 42 of the magazine M, and the openings 41 are aligned with the spaced openings 46 provided in the magazine. the legs 24 of the amount FS.

As a result, one can conveniently introduce the pivot pin FP into the aligned openings 48 of the bonnet, the aligned openings 41 of the magazine M and the aligned openings 46 of the FS upright and then deform it appropriately to make it. retain by articulation, on the one hand, the store M relative to the base B and, on the other hand, the cha skin C relative to the store M,

that is to say that the SA arm can come by pivoting into the position illustrated in fig. 7 or that the cap C can pivot backwards to fully uncover the magazine M as shown in fig. 6 and, at this time, there is full access to the staple reception corridor formed by the store M, as can easily be seen.

Normally the SA arm is in the position shown in fig. 11, that is, the magazine M rests on a curved elastic blade L stamped upwards and backwards in the sheet metal plate AC carrying the anvil. As a result, the magazine is elastically separated from the base B.

In this arrangement, there are also provided small retaining projections 50 (Fig. 11A) formed in the tabs 24 of the post FS and housed in the openings 45 of the mutually spaced branches 44 of the magazine M, that is to say that the protrusions 50 are removably locked in the walls of the apertures 45 which are slightly larger than these protrusions, allowing the SA arm to pivot downward while cooperating with the walls of the openings 45 to limit the upward pivoting and rearward displacement of the magazine which bring it into its normal position shown in FIG. 11. During the pivoting of the magazine M, the upwardly oriented flanges 19 of the base B serve as additional guide means for this movement.

The magazine M is made up of a single piece sheet metal and has a front wall 51 and mutually spaced side walls 42. Recessing parts 52, which connect the side walls 42 to the front wall 51 in connecting to these side walls have mutually spaced shoulders 53 extending laterally to the front wall 51 which has at its upper end a lip 54 inclined upwardly and forwardly.

In the magazine M are arranged parallel and at some distance from the spaced side walls 42 of the transversely spaced upwardly facing rails 55 which support the U-shaped row of the SS clips. At its lower part, each rail 55 is connected to an adjacent side wall 42 by connecting thereto by a core 56.

At their front ends (fig. 25), the upward-facing rails 55 extend beyond the webs 56 towards the inner surface of the front wall 51 to some distance from this wall to form therewith spaced intervals 57 (Figs. 11, 22, 25 and 26) constituting a guiding device or slide for the staples below the split staple driving blade DB which extends downwardly from a bearing surface 58 of the depressible flat spring, generally referred to as DS, which has an arched intermediate portion 59 inclined downwards and backwards,

from which extends towards the rear a flat end part 60 fixed by a rivet 61 to the rear end part 62 of the cover CP of the magazine M. This part 62 is offset with respect to the intermediate part of the cover CP at the above which it extends.

The blade DB comprises a slot 63 receiving a collar 64 of smaller dimensions from which extends a tab 65 projecting laterally. Mutually spaced portions 66 of the blade DB (Fig. 18) movably overlap the collar 64. Normally, the depressible flat spring DS is in its raised position shown in Figs. 11, 14 and 15. The lower part 67 of the slot 63 (FIG. 15) has a reduced dimension, and its lower wall cooperates with the collar 64 to limit the movement of the blade DB upwards.

A lip 68 (Figs. 11 and 14) located at the front portion of the cover plate CP also guides the movement of the blade DB which is further movably guided between mutually spaced projections 69 (Fig. 12) which extend into each other. extend from a flange 70 which carries the collar 64. The flange 70 (Fig. 14) is substantially perpendicular to (and is an integral part of) spaced protrusions 71 (Fig. 15) curved downward from the portion. front of the cover CP having an elongated central slot 72.

The cap C is permanently anchored to the seat 58 of the spring DS by curved projections 73 'and 73 extending downwards from the top wall 74 of the cap C which is made of sheet metal and which is hollow, its front wall 75 being disposed in front and at some distance from the lateral projection 65 of the cover CP. However, the front portions 76 of the mutually spaced sides 77 of the cap are spaced from the sides 42 (Fig. 11C) of the magazine M while the rear portions 75 (Fig. 11A) of the sides 77 fit tightly but movably. on the sides 42 of the store.

The aforementioned tabs 47 extend from the rear parts 78 of the cap C. Thanks to the arrangement described, the cap C integrally carries the push-in spring DS and the cover CP, but, thanks to the pierced tabs 47 , it can also pivot relative to the axis FP of the upright.

Further examining the magazine M, it is seen that the webs 56 and the rails 55 have spaced guide slots 79 which receive the protrusions 80 which are inwardly curved (Fig. 23) of the downward facing sides 81 of the. staple pusher P which is slidably guided by the spaced rails 55 which it straddles, and which are separated from one another.

Thanks to this arrangement, the pusher P can be quickly mounted in the store. It is mounted by simply compressing the side walls 42 of the magazine towards each other and dropping the pusher P onto the rails 55. When the side walls 42 of the magazine are pressed towards each other with the fingers, the front wall 51 is slightly stressed. This constraint is eliminated when one ceases to exert this pressure with the fingers and, consequently, the side walls of the magazine tend to diverge again, but this action is limited by the pusher P slidably guided, which can be said to be that in fact it is slidably locked with the rails.

From the pusher P extends a hook H (fi-. 11) forming a bare retaining loop 83 which is disposed at the lower surface 84 of a coil spring 85, normally contracted through a slot 72 of the cover CP and the intermediate part of which passes over a small fixed sleeve 86 formed by turns. The end loop 87 of the upper seat of the spring 85 is retained by a hook 88 projecting downward from the curved middle portion of the depressible spring DS.

Therefore, if the cap C is actuated, that is to say if it is rotated back and forth, the staple pusher P slidably guided will be driven in a back-and-forth movement. comes relative to the mutually spaced rails 55 of store M.

As previously mentioned, the front parts of the mutually spaced side walls 42 of the staple magazine are connected to the front wall 51 by the recess parts 52. However, the rear ends of the side walls 42 are free and are not. mutually connected (fig. 21). Therefore, due to the elasticity of the sheet of which the magazine is made, the mutually spaced walls 42 (Fig. 20) of the magazine normally diverge.

However, these walls can be brought towards each other as shown in fig. 21, that is, they can pivot or flex relative to the front wall 51, and at this time the pusher P drops into the magazine to overlap the rails 55, after which the protrusions 80 of the pusher P fall into the slots 79 and under the spaced rails 55.

Then, the pressure applied to bring the side walls 42 of the magazine towards each other is stopped, and these walls suddenly and automatically move outwards, but this movement is limited or stopped by the sides. mutually spaced 81 of the pus evening P which prevents the spaced rails 55 from continuing to move apart, so that the sides 42 remain a predetermined distance apart from each other (Fig. 22) for the purpose of reception of the SS staple row. The rails 55 are each reinforced by a suitable longitudinal rib 82.

The slots 79 which separate the spaced webs 56 and the spaced rails 55 have end walls 90 and 91 which cooperate respectively with the inwardly curved projections 80 to limit the forward and rearward movement of the slidingly guided P pusher.

A small sleeve 86 is made up of several contiguous turns of metal wire, the diameter of which increases progressively from its central turns and which, consequently, delimits a groove serving to suitably receive the helical spring 85 which urges the pusher P staples when the cover is closed, which has the effect of pushing forward the row of staples SS towards the front part of the magazine M. The last turns of the sleeve 86 form ends 92 which are spot welded to the front parts to each other spaced apart from the CP cover.

The cover CP is a support plate for the spring DS which drives the clips and which can be depressed, and its downward pivoting is limited by the spaced shoulders 53 located at the rear of the front wall 51 of the magazine M and arranged lateral to it,

that is to say that the shoulders 53 of the recessed wedge parts 54 serve as a stop cooperating with the projection 70 to limit this downward movement of the cover CP and at this time the spaced projections 93 curved towards the end. interior from the spaced sides 42 of the magazine support the rear end 62 of the cover CP. Fig. 11 clearly illustrates this arrangement in which the cover CP is also placed above the strip or row of staples SS to prevent the latter from moving,

that is to say to facilitate the guiding and the maintenance of this strip on the spaced rails 55. When the cover CP rests against the edges 53 forming a stop and that it is supported by the projections 93, it closes the part. open top of the magazine, that is, the mutually spaced rods 110 of the cover which constitute its lower part are housed in the magazine, but slightly above the row of staples SS so as to hold that here on rails 55.

In order to be able to lower the cover C, normally raised relative to the magazine M and the cover CP when the latter is supported by the lip 54 and the projections 93 oriented downwards and cantilevered from the magazine, we practice in the walls relatively large transversely aligned perforations 94 thereof detachably accommodating small inwardly stamped retainers 95 which extend from the rear portions 78 of the mutually spaced sides 77 of the cap vs.

During the closure of the pivot cap as C, the elements 95 overlap by friction but movably the side walls 42 of the magazine and finally abruptly engages in the aligned perforations 94 so as to lock therewith a certain play, c 'that is to say to lock it in a removable manner. To open the cap C, it is taken with the fingers and it is rotated upwards, which automatically releases the elements 95 from the perforations 94.

If the cap C is rotated so as to open it completely, the drive spring DS and the cover CP pivot backwards integrally, which gives full access to the staple reception corridor formed by the wall front 51, side walls 42, webs 56, and spaced rails 55 of store M.

As indicated above, the stapler can be transformed into a die. This is achieved by grasping the pivot arm as SA and by pivoting it towards the rear of the base in the position shown in fig. 8. As a result of this action, the branches 44 of the mutually spaced side walls 42 of the store M protrude from the retaining elements 50 of the post FS which serves as a stop cooperating with the rear end 96 (FIG. 7) of the upper wall. 74 of cap C to stop this cap from pivoting backwards.

The drive device which comprises the cover CP and the spring DS can be easily assembled with the chain C. In this regard, it will be noted that the slot 63 of the blade DB can easily receive the resiliently biased projection 73 'which extends downward from the cap C, which determines the automatic positioning of the latter with respect to to the spring DS, after which the projection 73 is projected into the opening 97 of the seat 58.

Then, the projection 73 is bent upwards and against the underside of the bearing 58 to securely attach the res out DS to the cap C. The projection 73 'can also be considered as a stop against which the bearing 58 is held.

Before inserting and matting the rivet 61 and to facilitate the assembly of the DS spring which drives the clips and which can be pushed in, with the cover CP, there is provided in the end 60 (fig. 11) of the DS spring a placement opening 100 for tightly receiving a small cooperating protrusion 101 which extends from the end 62 of the cover CP. By exerting downward pressure with the fingers on the hat C, the SA arm is rotated downwards against the resistance opposed by the loop L of res sort,

and the blade DB drives the first staple in the row out of the slide demarcated by the spaced gaps 57 and pushes it against the indented part 40 of the anvil AC. Of course, during the pivoting from the cap C downwards, the spring DS is put under tension. After the first staple has been driven from the magazine and has been pulled back against the anvil, the manual pressure previously applied to the cap is released.

Then the loop L lifts the magazine M, and the spring DS lifts the blade DB and the cap C. The pivoting of the magazine sin M upwards is limited by the small projections 50 of the post FS. These small projections cooperate with the lower parts of the relatively large openings to limit this upward movement. In the openings 45 also the small projections 50 are removably locked in order to hold the downwardly oriented branches 44 of the movable overlapping magazine on the inwardly curved legs 24 of the articulated frame FS. </ I>
