Method for drilling objects in very hard material, in particular for drilling clock stones and a machine for implementing this process The evolution of drilling for clock stones has been very slow; it is only in recent years that attempts have been made to automate this operation.
All known machines, simple or automatic, perform this operation on one side only like an ordinary drill, which considerably limits production.
The present invention relates to a method for drilling objects made of very hard material, in particular for drilling clock stones, characterized in that these objects are drilled simultaneously from two opposite sides by means of two drills. arranged in the same axis. It also includes a machine for implementing this process.
This machine is characterized in that it comprises at least two drilling spindles, directly opposite, arranged to hold two drills arranged in the same axis, means for holding the object to be drilled between said drills so that said drills object can be drilled simultaneously from both sides.
The accompanying drawing illustrates, by way of example, a particular implementation of the claimed process and represents a particular embodiment of the machine for implementing this process, in the case of vertical drilling.
Fig. 1 is a schematic representation of this embodiment with the devices for advancing the drilling spindles of this embodiment.
Fig. 2 is an axial section of the workpiece clamping block.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same cleat. The upper spindle 1_ rotates in the air bearings 2 and 3. The rotation is controlled by the air turbine 4.
It goes without saying that control by a high frequency electric motor, for example, is possible.
The turbine 4 is extended by the tubular part 5 onto which the nut 6 is screwed which limits the axial play of the air thrust bearing 7. This bearing, which has a radial play of two to three tenths of a mm on the tube 5 comprises the recess 8 closed on the outside by the sleeve 9 pressed on the bearing 7. Under these conditions, the rotation of the shaft 1 is not hindered.
It is the bearing 7 which transmits to the shaft 1 its lifting movements controlled by the mechanism constituted by the cam 10, the lever 11, the pawl 12, its lifting pin 13, the lever 14 and the springs 15 and 16. Pressurized air comes in. to the reservoir 8 of the bearing 7 through the hole 17, drilled in the pivot of the lever 14, and through the channel 18.
From the reservoir 8, the air acts against the turbine 4 and the nut 6 by the nozzles 19 and 20. The cams 10 and 10 'are controlled by a small synchronous motor, they rotate at exactly the same speed. With each turn of the cam, the beak 21, which is only about 1 mm high, acts on the lever 14 through the intermediary of the lever 11 and the pawl 12 which penetrates the very fine toothing 22 of the lever. 11. The shaft is then raised by a few hundredths of a mm, thus allowing the abrasive to penetrate under the drill 23.
As soon as the beak 21 has passed the key of the lever 11, the latter is pressed again against the cylindrical part of the cam 10, the pawl 12 is disengaged from the toothed sector by the pin 13. The drilling takes place from causes the shaft to descend by its own weight and biased by the spring 16 on the lever 14. The drilling time relative to the lifting is of the order of 20: 1. The drill 23 is a steel wire.
The supply of the abrasive (diamond powder and oil), the load and the extraction of the parts are done automatically by levers not shown in the drawing.
When the stone is pierced, all of the parts described above, which are part of the headstock of the machine, is raised by means of an electric control servo motor which is the subject of another patent. This lifting must be sufficient to allow the passage of the load and extraction levers under the drill.
The shaft and the lower drilling device have exactly the same elements which work slowly in reverse.
At the end of the drilling, the shaft 1 'is moved back slightly below the part by the piston 24, which raises the levers 11' and 14 '.
The cams 10 and 10 'are coupled so that the movements of the pins 1 and 1' take place at the same time, but in the opposite direction, thus preventing the part from moving in its cleat.
The retraction of the shaft 1, after drilling the part, still controlled by the electric servomotor, takes place with a delay of a few seconds after the retraction of the shaft l ', to allow the upper drill to break in the small one. flange which forms â, the inside of the hole, at the junction of the two drills, that is to say. when the contact of the bits closes the circuit of the electric control servomotor.
The cleat 25, made of hardened steel, is fitted in a washer 26, larger, to allow access to the cleat 27 and its replacement.
The abrasive mixture is poured into the circular reservoir 28 closed by the cover 29. From this reservoir, the abrasive enters the cleat through the bores 30 (fig. 2 and 3) and the grooves 31, 4 in number to 6, to form a drop in the center of the cleat.
The parts to be drilled are kept centered in the cleat 25 by the washer 32, made of synthetic rubber. You need one cleat per part diameter. The washer 26 is fitted in a groove of the frame 33.
This abrasive supply system could be replaced by another comprising, for example, a hypodermic syringe which would send a drop of abrasive for each part.
The bowl 34 makes it possible to recover the abrasive which can be projected by the drill.
The ramming device works at a very fast rate, which requires that all the parts that compose it have the lowest possible inertia. This device could very well be electromagnetic, which is the case in several known machines.
This new drilling process has the main advantages of doubling the production compared to the newer machines and completely avoiding chipping of the parts at the end of the drilling as almost always occurs in current machines.
