Sealing device The invention relates to a sealing device ensuring the sealing of the joint between a cylindrical element subjected to a high fluid pressure and the cylindrical wall of a chamber in which it slides. .
The sealing devices currently used in this case, such as U-rings, O-rings, etc., seek to achieve sealing by direct action of the pressure of the fluid on the ring. . For very high pressures, in particular above 1200 kg / cm2, these rings, whether made of leather, plastic or metal alloy, resist poorly and in particular their unequal resistance causes leaks and leaks. deteriorations.
Also known is a sealing device used in such a case, which comprises an auxiliary piston disposed in front of the cylindrical element, receiving on its front face the pressure of the fluid which applies it, through its rear face of lower surface to that of its front face, on a block of deformable material interposed between this rear face of the auxiliary piston and the front face of the cylindrical element.
However, devices of this type are of doubtful effectiveness.
The sealing device according to the invention does not have the drawbacks of known devices. It is characterized by a bowl coaxial with said cylindrical element and fixed to the latter on the side where the pressure of the fluid prevails, and by a filling of completely enclosed deformable material. between the bowl and an auxiliary piston, the front face of which is subjected to the pressure of the fluid which applies it by a rear face, of lower surface to that of the front face , on the filling of deformable material,
the cup having a thin side wall which is applied against the cylindrical wall of the chamber by the radial expansion of the filling of deformable material when the latter is compressed by the auxiliary piston.
The appended drawing represents, to by way of example, two embodiments and a variant of the sealing device according to the invention applied to the piston of a hydraulic cylinder.
Fig. 1 is a schematic cross-sectional view of the first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view thereof partially cut away in section.
Figs. 3 and 4 are analogous views of the second embodiment.
Figs. 5 and 6 are sectional and exploded views of a variant.
The device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, which seals the seal between the piston 7 of a hydraulic cylinder and the wall of its cylinder 8, comprises a differential auxiliary piston 3 whose large front face 9 receives the thrust of the fluid contained in the space 10. This thrust applies the face rear annular 11 of the piston 3 on a block of deformable material 2 completely enclosed between the piston 3 and a cup 1 </ B > coaxial with the piston 7 and rigidly fixed to the front face thereof.
This block of deformable material 2 can be made of synthetic plastic or a metal alloy. Instead of block 2, it is also possible to use a filling made of several pieces of deformable material, for example successive washers or segments.
The pressure, due to the pressure of the fluid that the face 11 of the differential piston exerts on the block 2, is increased in proportion to the ratio of the surfaces of the faces 9 and 11 of the piston and this pressure has the effect of crushing the block 2 which deforms the outer thin cylindrical wall of the bowl 1, as indicated in dotted lines in 12, to reapply on the wall of the cylinder 8.
The bead 12, which thus forms homogeneously and regularly in the middle part of the thin side wall of the bowl 1, ensures a perfect seal between the piston 7 </ B > and the cylinder 8, this seal increasing in proportion to the pressure of the fluid in the chamber 10.
In the device of FIGS. 3 and 4, the auxiliary differential piston is a ring 6 of T-section receiving on the outside face of its crossmember 13 the pressure of the fluid prevailing in the chamber 10 which applies it by its internal annular faces 14 to two rings of deformable material 5 housed between the core 15 and the thin side walls 16, 17 of an annular cup 18 fixed to the annular face of the piston of the cylinder.
To avoid in the jack of figs. 1 and 2 leaks by the clearance which exists, by construction, between the piston 7 and the cylinder 8, when the fluid is not under pressure, an O-ring seal 21 is arranged in a groove 22 of the cup 1.
In the variant of the device of FIGS. 1 and 2 shown in fig. 5 and 6, a screw 4 makes it possible to exert an initial compression on the block of deformable material 2 to obtain a deformation of the thin lateral wall 24 of the cup < B> 1, which cancels the game and removes the leak.
This screw can be tightened by its sides 26 in the tapping of the rod 19 of the differential piston 3 1 thanks to the play left in a recess < B> 27 that the bowl 1 presents until the block 2 is crushed between the wall 24 of the bowl 1 and the piston 19 sleeve 3.
