Description

Method for the preparation of a tanning agent The present method for the preparation of a tanning agent is based on the fact that inan first naphthol disulfonic acid (mainly 2: 6:
8) together with naphthylamine disulphic acid 2: 6: 8 with formaldehyde in sufficient dilution in the presence of a little sulfuric acid at 70 to 80 C and neutralized here on the solution obtained, which contains the condensation product, which is a high quality tannin, in a dissolved state together with free sulfuric acid , at least partially with a hydroxide of a metal, the salts of which have a self-tanning effect. Such bimetal hydroxides are the hydrate of chromium, aluminum, iron, etc.
The tanning agent solution obtained by the process in a thickness of 24 to 28 "Be is completely ready for use, in commercially available form and does not require any cleaning or other treatment. Besides its very high tanning effect, it also has the property that the leather tanned with it has a yellow color to be granted, so that further dyeing of the leather can either be omitted or only a weak re-dyeing to a desired shade has to take place.
The yellow color of the leather obtained during tanning also gives off a good basic shade in order to achieve a deep, rich black.
<I> Example: </I> 59 kg of naphthol disulfonic acid (mainly 2: 6: Q), produced by heating 1 part of i3-naplitol with 2 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid to 110 "C for twelve hours, corresponding to about 38 kg of pure naphthol- sulfonic acid, are dissolved in 80 liters of water and treated with 43.2 kg of 2: 6: 8 naphthylamine disulfonic acid sodium (corresponding to 37.75 kg of pure acid).
The mixture is heated to 70 to 80 "C. 25 kg of 30"; 'oiger form aldehyde are diluted with 25 liters of water and mixed with 13 kg of concentrated sulfuric acid of 66 "B6; the solution is also heated to 70" C and added to the first mixture with stirring.
After condensation (after two hours at the earliest), 55.4 kg of chromium hydroxide paste (corresponding to 4.84 kg of Cr., Os) are added and then another 9 kg of 98% soda are introduced. A tannin analysis using the hide powder method revealed the following composition:

<tb> non-tanning agents <SEP> 9.70%
