Gear switch. The object of the invention is a gear change for motor vehicles with chain transmission, and more especially for motorcycles, sidecars, tri-cars, cycle cars, etc., characterized by a sliding pinion, keyed on. the motor shaft and moved axially on said shaft by means of a fork integral with the longitudinal movements of a lever control shaft and by a disc fixed to the end of the driven shaft which carries the chain sprocket and carrying at least two rows of members playing the role of teeth, arranged circularly, at least two different speeds, respectively rearward and forward, being obtained by bringing the sliding pinion into engagement respectively with each of these two rows of members,
depending on whether this gear takes place on one side or the other of the center of the disc.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a horizontal section, taken along two different planes passing through the axes of the motor shaft and of the lever shaft controlling the player; Fig. 2 is an elevational view thereof with the housing cover removed.
To the chassis a of the motor vehicle, shown schematically in broken lines, are fixed two ears b1, the gearbox or housing b having a cover b2.
The motor (not shown) is coupled, by a clutch c, a shaft c1 with longitudinal slide c2, in which the key of a sliding pinion d moves. This pinion d carries a circular groove d1, in which acts a fork e, mounted on a shaft e1, which can be moved axially by means of a lever by a ball e3 housed in the part of the housing b, serving as a bearing for this shaft, and acting in a helical groove e4 formed over a certain length of said shaft.
The teeth of the pinion d are profiled so as to be able to mesh respectively with one of two circular rows of ball joints or fixed balls f carried by a dis that f1, fixed to the end of the driven shaft f2 arranged perpendicular to the shaft c1 and carrying, keyed to it, the chain transmission pinion f3 to the rear axle. In the gear position of pinion d and ball joint disc f1, shown in the drawing, the vehicle is at high forward speed.
By moving the player d to the left to bring it into engagement with the outer circular row of ball joints, we obtain low forward speed, while by moving it to the right, beyond the center of the disc fl, we obtain the high or low rear speed, depending on whether the pinion d is brought into engagement with the inner row or the outer row of ball joints.
