Abstract
Se proporcionan métodos para producir una composición de biomasa que contiene pectina activada. Estos métodos incluyen A) mezclar un material de biomasa de partida que contiene pectina que comprende un componente de fibra insoluble y un componente de protopectina insoluble con una solución acuosa de un alcohol para formar una mezcla; B) activar el material de biomasa de partida que contiene pectina para formar un material de biomasa que contiene pectina activada que comprende el componente de fibra insoluble y un componente de pectina soluble, sometiendo el material de biomasa de partida que contiene pectina a (i) una solución de activación formada mediante la adición de ácido clorhídrico y/o ácido sulfúrico a la mezcla para ajustar el pH de la mezcla dentro del intervalo de o de aproximadamente 0,5 a o a aproximadamente 2,5, y (ii) calentar hasta una temperatura superior a o superior a aproximadamente 40 grados centígrados; C) aplicar energía mecánica bien (i) a la mezcla de la etapa A), (ii) durante la activación de la etapa B) o (iii) a la mezcla de la etapa A) y durante la activación de la etapa B); y (D) separar el material de biomasa que contiene pectina activada de la mezcla. En general, el alcohol está presente en la mezcla en una cantidad superior a aproximadamente el 35 por ciento en peso basado en el peso total de la mezcla. También se proporcionan composiciones de biomasa que contienen pectina activada.
