Description
Anwendungsgebiet der ErfindungField of application of the invention
,The invention relates to a process for the addition of lubricants with multivalent EP additives, which are advantageously used in particular in gear and hydraulic oils. .
Charakteristik des bekannten Standes der TechnikCharacteristic of the known state of the art
It is known to add for the lubrication of machinery and aggregates the lubricating oils used for sulfur or sulfur compounds, in order to achieve an increase in the pressure-absorbing capacity of the oils in order to reduce wear during operation. The sulfur forms a reaction layer on the metal surface, which counteracts the wear. The effectiveness of such sulfur compounds depends crucially on the reactivity and dam content of the sulfur. Thus, it is known that organic polysulfides best meet these requirements, the efficacy increasing with increasing sulfur content. Sulfur compounds with 5 to 50% sulfur content are known. This also includes higher mercaptans, the effectiveness of which depends on the chain length and the structure. The preparation and use of sulfurized polybutenes is described in GB-PS 2016419 as well as in US-PS 4204969. About the EP-effect of sulfurized unsaturated fatty acids and sulfurized under pressure olefins statements are made in DE-OS 2842138 and in US-PS 4191669. The use of higher mercaptans is known from the beginnings of the research on EP additives according to US Pat. No. 2,562,144, the load carrying capacity of these compounds being low. The realization of the illustrated technical solutions is associated in practice with a number of disadvantages. As a major disadvantage of polysulfide application, their instability and corrosion properties have been demonstrated. Polysulfide-containing oils tend to excrete sulfur, so they are unstable. Thus, they lose their effectiveness, form sludge in the oil, which can lead to obstruction of oil channels and thus to malfunction in modern machines operated with multifunctional oils. To reduce these deficiencies, additional stabilizers and inhibitors are required. This increases the cost and reduces the load bearing capacity of the sulfur-containing EP additive. Nevertheless, no complete elimination of these deficiencies is achieved.
Mercaptanhaltige EP-Zusätze finden Infolge ihres penetranten Geruchs, ihrer mangelhaften spezifischen Wirksamkeit sowie unzureichender Kupferkorrosionseigenschaften keine praktische Anwendung.Mercaptan-containing EP additives are not used in practice because of their pungent odor, poor specific activity and inadequate copper corrosion properties.
Dieses Produkt ist ein Produkt der Leistungsklasse TM 5.Known sulfur-containing commercial EP additives are a 6 wt.% Sulfur product produced according to DD-PS 134450 and a 30 wt.% Sulfur brand product prepared according to US Pat. No. 4,204,969. The product prepared according to DD-PS 134450 reached in any additional concentration in hydrogenated dewaxed neutral oil of viscosity 60mm 2 s ~ 'at 5O 0 C a VKA load carrying capacity of 3 800 N. This product is an additive of performance class TM 4. Although the soybean content only 6%, this TGL18622 copper corrosion inhibiting additive undergoes 5 wt% inhibition of a secondary amine of chain length C 8 to Cg. With this inhibition, a copper corrosion of the rating 1 b is achieved. Without the addition of the inhibitor, the load carrying capacity is 2100N. The brand product according to US Pat. No. 4,204,969 achieves a value of 3000N in the VKA with 6.5% by weight in hydrogenated dewaxed neutral viscosity viscosity oil 60 mm V at 50 ° C. To achieve this load carrying capacity, the product still contains phosphorus in the form of special components with 1.5 to 2.0 wt .-% phosphorus in the additive. Use of costly heterocyclic nitrogenous pyrrolidone-based inhibitors results in Grade 2 copper corrosion. This product is a product of performance class TM 5.
Mercaptans are not on the market because of their pungent odor, their insufficient load bearing capacity and their insufficient copper corrosion properties as EP additives. For example, octylmercaptan, as well as hexyl mercaptan at 5.5% by weight in a phenol refined neutral oil of viscosity 60mm 2 8 ~ 'at 50 ° C a load carrying capacity of 1800 N in VKA. With increasing chain length of the mercaptan, the load carrying capacity can not be increased. With decreasing chain length, the load-bearing capacity increases, for example, in ethylmercaptan to 2200N with 5.5Gew .-% active ingredient content in phenol refined dewaxed neutral oil viscosity of 60mm V at 5O 0 C. However, the odor of this compound is so unbearable that it can not be handled practically. Of the aromatic mercaptans such as phenyl mercaptan strength active substance concentration to obtain a load carrying capacity of 1800 N at 5.5 wt .-% in a phenol refined Deparaffinize neutral oil of viscosity layer 60 mmV at 5O 0 C. This mercaptan is also so penetrating in its smell that it practically can not be used. Furthermore, mercaptans according to CARL ZERBE (Volume 1.2, ed., Pp. 115-116) lead to excessive copper corrosion.
The aim of the invention is the addition of lubricants with multivalent EP additives in low concentration, which do not require the additional use of expensive non-ferrous metal deactivators.
The invention is based on the object * to mix unalloyed or alloyed lubricants EP additives that give the lubricants both excellent load-bearing capacity with very good formulation stability and excellent copper corrosion properties and, if necessary, moreover, allow the effective concentration of EP additives in the lubricant to decrease.
Optimale Wirkungs- und Anwendungseigenschaften zeigen solche Ester im Alkylkohlenstoffanzahlberelch von Cg bis C)2.According to the invention, the process for the addition of lubricants with multivalent EP additives by mixing the unalloyed or alloyed lubricant with 0.1 to 10% of an organic sulfur ester essentially characterized in that as sulfur organic esters thloglycolic acid ester having an alkyl carbon number of C 4 to C 18 both be used in normal as well as in isostructure or mixtures thereof. Optimal effects and application properties are shown by such esters in the alkyl carbon number range from Cg to C ) 2 .
As mineral oils, those based on petroleum, tar oils, etc. can be twisted, as prepared by the known refining
In addition, animal, vegetable and synthetic oils such as olefin polymers, ester oils and polyalkylene glycols are useful.
Furthermore, the use of other known additives in combination with the inventive use of Thioglykolsäureester addition is possible. Thus, as known, detergent additives, VI improvers, oxidation inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, etc. can be used.
Surprisingly, it has been found that when using thioglycolic acid esters with relatively low sulfur contents of 10 to 1 wt.% Sulfur as lubricating oil additive, an excellent load-bearing capacity equal to and greater than the performance class TM 4 is achieved with very good formulation stability, excellent copper corrosion properties and no odor nuisance.
For instance, above-average values are obtained in the load-bearing capacity measured in the VKA. The oil solutions remain stable and there is no copper corrosion.
Die vorhandene Mercaptogruppe führt zu keiner Geruchsbelästigung. Die Anwendung erfolgt ohne spezielle Phosphorkomponenten bzw. Buntmetallinhibitoren. The existing mercapto group leads to no odor nuisance. The application is carried out without special phosphorus components or non-ferrous metal inhibitors.
Based on the state of the art, the highly actively bound sulfur would have had to lead to poor copper corrosion properties since, according to CARL ZERBE (Bd. 1, 2 ed., Pp. 115/110), mercapto sulfur leads to copper corrosion.
