Opfindelsen angår en fremgangsmåde til polymerisation af vinylchlorid eller en monomerblanding med vinylchlorid som hovedbestanddel i en vandig suspension i en polymerisationsreaktor, idet polymerskorpeaflejring skal undgås på 5 væggene og de øvrige overflader, som kommer i kontakt med monomer i en polymerisationsreaktor.
Til fremstilling af polyvinylchloridharpikser kendes der forskellige fremgangsmåder, herunder suspensionspolymerisation, emulsionspolymerisation, opløsningspolymerisa-10 tion, gasfasepolymerisation og massepolymerisation. Imidlertid er ingen af den kendte tekniks metoder frie for problemer bestående i polymerskorpeaflejring på overfladerne i en polymerisationsreaktor under polymerisationen. Følgelig bliver overfladerne, som er i kontakt med monomer, ind-15 befattet de indre vægge af reaktoren og overfladerne på en omrører i reaktoren, ifølge den kendte teknik normalt dækket med polymerskorpe under polymerisationen, hvilket medfører nedsat polymerudbytte og forringet kølekapacitet hos reaktoren. Endvidere er der tilbøjelighed til, at dele af 20 den således aflejrede polymerskorpe løsnes fra overfladen og kommer ind i slutproduktet, hvis kvalitet forringes.
Af alvorligere betydning er det endvidere, at rensning af polymerisationsreaktoren til fjernelse af polymerskorpe efter hver polymerisation ikke blot er meget arbejdskrævende, 25 men også frembyder et alvorligt helbredsproblem for arbejderne på grund af giftigheden af den uomsatte monomer, som er absorberet i polymerskorpen.
Ifølge den kendte teknik har man endvidere foreslået forebyggelse af polymerskorpeaflejring på de indre vægge og 30 andre overflader i en polymerisationsreaktor ved overtrækning af overfladerne før hver polymerisation med en forbindelse, som vælges blandt polære organiske forbindelser såsom aminforbindelser, quinonforbindelser og aldehydforbindelser, organiske farvestoffer og pigmenter (USA patent-35 skrift 3.669.946). Denne metode er imidlertid ufordelagtig på grund af den besværlige tørring efter en sådan overtrækning og den nedsatte produktivitet af polymerisationsreaktoren på grund af den forholdsvis lange tid, som med-

- 2 - går til overtrækningen mellem to polymerproduktioner, og på grund af den forurening af omgivelserne og de helbredsproblemer, som forårsages af de organiske opløsningsmidler, som benyttes i store mængder tillige med overtræksforbin-5 delserne.
Formålet med opfindelsen er at anvise en hidtil ukendt fremgangsmåde uden de ovennævnte problemer til effektiv forebyggelse af polymerskorpeaflejring på væggene og andre overflader i polymerisationsreaktoren ved polymerisation 10 af vinylchlorid i vandig suspension med meget høj produktions ef fektivitet.
Fremgangsmåden til polymerisation af vinylchlorid eller en monomerblanding af vinylchlorid som hovedbestanddel og en eller flere copolymeriserbare monomere ifølge opfin-15 delsen er ejendommelig ved tilsætning til en polymerisationsblanding af mindst ét iodsalt af alkalimetaller eller jordalkalimetaller.
Det gennem opfindelsen opnåede tekniske fremskridt belyses gennem eksemplerne nedenfor på følgende måde: Jo 20 større antallet af "fiskeøjne" (se nedenfor) er, desto dårligere er produktet, og jo større skorpeaflejringen er, desto mere ufordelagtig bliver fremgangsmåden. Et godt eksempel fremgår af forsøg nr. li Tabel I nedenfor, hvor mængden af skorpeaflejring er 1100 g/m , og antallet af 25 "fiskeøjne" er 66 uden tilsætningen ifølge opfindelsen.
Et andet godt eksempel er forsøg nr. 35 i Tabel II, hvor 2 mængden af aflejring er 1400 g/m uden tilsætning.
Forebyggelsen af polymerskorpeaflejring efter den angivne fremgangsmåde kan ifølge opfindelsen yderligere for-30 øges ved, at man overtrækker de forskellige overflader, som kommer i kontakt med monomer, med en polær organisk forbindelse eller et organisk farvestof.
De additiver, som skal indbefattes i polymerisationsblandingen efter fremgangsmåden ifølge opfindelsen, vælges 35 som nævnt blandt iodsalte af alkali- eller jordalkalimetaller, såsom natriumiodid, kaliumiodid, calciumiodid og mag-nesiumiodid.

De polære organiske forbindelser, som kan benyttes til overtrækning af de forskellige overflader, som kommer i kontakt med monomer i polymerisationsreaktoren i forbindelse med tilsætningen af ovennævnte additiver til polymerisationsblandingen, ér organiske forbindelser med et eller 5 flere atomer eller grupper med uparrede elektroner såsom oxygen-, nitrogen- og svovlatomer i deres molekyler. Illustrerende eksempler på polære organiske forbindelser er ni-trogenholdige organiske forbindelser, som vælges blandt dem med azo-, nitro-, nitroso- eller azomethingrupper eller 10 azinringe og aminforbindelser såsom azomethan, azobenzen, nitrobenzen, nitrosobenzen, monoaminomononitroazobenzen, pyrazin, pyridin, thiaziner, oxaziner (f.eks. morpholin), anilin, benzalanilin, ethylendiamintetraeddikesyre, d-naph-thylamin, ethanolamin, diethanolamin, triethanolamin, vita-15 min B2 (dvs. nikotinsyreamid) og chlorophyl, svovlholdige organiske forbindelser, som vælges blandt dem med thiocarb-onyl- eller mercaptogrupper eller thioetherbinding såsom thioglycolsyre, thiourinstof, thiocarbanilsyre, thiocarb-aminsyre, thiobenzoesyre, thioethere og mercaptaner, oxy-20 genholdige organiske forbindelser, som vælges blandt quino-ner, såsom p-benzoquinon, ketoner såsom acetophenon og ben-zophenon, aldehyder såsom acetaldehyd og benzaldehyd, alkoholer med mere end 5 carbonatomer såsom cetylalkohol, octyl-alkohol og benzylalkohol og carboxylsyrer med mere end 5 25 carbonatomer såsom stearinsyre og naphthoesyrer og aliphati-ske og alicykliske polyenforbindelser med konjugerede dobbeltbindinger såsom vitamin , vitamin A2 og d-, |3- og y-carotiner.

Ved udførelsen af fremgangsmåden ifølge opfindelsen sættes additivet eller additiverne i sig selv til polymerisationsblandingen eller om fornødent som en opløsning eller dispersion i et opløsningsmiddel eller en blanding af 5 opløsningsmidler.. De til formålet egnede opløsningsmidler er ikke afgrænset på nogen bestemt måde, men kan være vand, alkoholer, estere, ketoner, carbonhydrider eller chlorerede carbonhydrider.
Den mængde additiv eller additiver, som skal sættes 10 til polymerisationsblandingen, bør være mindst 3 dele pr.
million efter vægt på basis af vægten af monomer eller monomere. Enhver mængde over 5000 dele pr. million efter vægt medfører forskellige uønskede effekter ved polymerisationsprocessen samt på kvaliteten af polymerprodukterne. Følge-15 lig foretrækkes det, at mængden af additiv eller additiver ligger i området fra 3 til 5000 dele pr. million eller fortrinsvis fra 10 til 1000 dele pr. million efter vægt på basis af monomer eller monomere. De egnede opløsningsmidler til opløsning eller disper-gering af de organiske forbindelser eller farvestoffer til 35 overtrækning af overfladerne er f.eks. ethere såsom tetra-hydrofuran og diisopropylether, alkoholer såsom methanol, ethanol og propanol, estere såsom methylacetat og ethyl- - 6 -

acetat, ketoner såsom acetone og methylethylketon, carbon-hydrider såsom benzen, toluen, xylen og hexan, chlorerede carbonhydrider såsom methylenchlorid, carbontetrachlorid og trichlorethylen og aprotiske opløsningsmidler såsom 5 dimethylformamid, dimethylacetamid og dimethylsulfoxid.
Mængden af overtræksforbindelser på overfladerne er mindst 0,0001 g eller fortrinsvis mellem 0,005 og 1,0 g 2 pr. m overtrukket areal, så at der kan opnås en fuld effekt til yderligere forøgelse af forebyggelse af polymer-10 skorpeaflejring.
Tilsætningen af additiverne til polymerisationsblandingen uden den yderligere procedure med overtrækning af overfladerne er tilstrækkelig effektiv til forebyggelse af polymerskorpeaflejring i de fleste tilfælde, og fordelen 15 består i, at der ikke er nogen mulighed for forurening, da overfladeovertrækket udelades, hvor der benyttes organiske opløsningsmidler, ligesom effektiviteten af produktionen .af polyvinylchloridharpiks forbedres meget, da den tidskrævende overtræksprocedure udelades.
20 Ovennævnte effekt til forebyggelse af polymerskorpeaf- lejring kan yderligere forøges ved anvendelse af teknikken ved overtrækning af de forskellige overflader. Fremgangsmåden ifølge opfindelsen udviser udmærket virkning til forebyggelse af polymerskorpeaflejring ikke blot ved homo-5 polymerisation af vinylchlorid, men også ved copolymerisa-tion af vinylchlorid med en eller flere ethylenisk umættede monomere, som er copolymeriserbare med vinylchlorid, såsom vinylestere, vinylethere, acrylonitril, acryl- og methacryl-syre og deres estere, malein- og fumarsyre og deres estere 10 eller maleinsyreanhydrid,. aromatiske vinylmonomere, vinyl-halogenider bortset fra vinylchlorid, vinylidenhalogenider og olefiner.
Nedenfor følger eksempler til illustration af fremgangsmåden ifølge opfindelsen. I eksemplerne er dele pr. million 15 (ppm) på basis af vægten af monomer eller monomere. Varmestabiliteten af produktet og antallet af "fiskeøjne", som omtales i beskrivelsen af nogle af eksemplerne eller i tabellerne, bestemmes som følger;
Bestemmelse af produktets varmestabilitet 20 En blanding af 100 vægtdele polyvinylchloridharpiks, 1 vægtdel dibutyltinmaleat og 1 vægtdel stearinsyre blandes på en valsemølle ved 170°C i 10 minutter til dannelse af et 0,7 mm tykt ark. Arket opvarmes i en Geer-ovn ved 180°C, og tiden til mørkfarvning af arket noteres i minutter som 25 et mål for varmestabiliteten af polyvinylchloridharpiksen. Bestemmelse af "fiskeøjne"

500 kg afmineraliseret vand, 200 g delvis hydrolyseret poly vinyl alkohol, 60 g azo-bis-dimethylvaleronitril og hvert af de forskellige additiver ifølge tabel I i den i samme tabel angivne mængde. Derpå foretages der polymerisation 5 ved 57°C i 9 timer. Mængden af aflejret polymerskorpe, partikelstørrelsefordelingen af det fremkomne produkt og antallet af "fiskeøjne" i produktet bestemmes, og resultaterne fremgår af tabellen. Varmestabiliteten af harpiksen er 120 minutter i alle forsøg 1-8.

hvert af de i tabel II nedenfor angivne additiver i den i tabellen ligeledes angivne mængde. Efter 15 minutters indledende blanding udføres polymerisationen derefter ved 58°C i 12 timer. Mængden af polymerskorpeaflejring' i hvert forsøg fremgår af tabellen. Harpikserne viser sig tilfreds-5 stillende med hensyn til partikelstørrelsefordeling, varmestabilitet og forekomst af "fiskeøjne".

Eksempel 3
Under anvendelse af samme polymerisationsreaktor som i 25 eksempel 1 overtrækkes reaktorens indre vægge og overfladerne på omrøreren med en opløsning eller dispersion indeholdende 0,1% af hver af overtræksforbindelserne med opløsningsmidlerne som angivet i tabel III i en mængde på 0,05 2 g/m som tørstof, og de overtrukne overflader tørres ved 30 blæsning i varm luft ved 60°C i 70 minutter.
I den således overtrukne polymerisationsreaktor anbringes 200 kg vinylchloridmonomer, 500 kg afmineraliseret vand, 200 g delvis hydrolyseret polyvinylalkohol og 60 g azo-bis-dimethylvaleronitril med eller uden tilsætning 35 af calciumiodid som angivet i tabel III. Der foretages polymerisation ved 57°C i 16 timer under omrøring med en

- 10 - hastighed på 100 omdrejninger pr. minut for en charge efterfulgt af en yderligere eller flere charger. Efter den første og hver følgende charge undersøges de indre vægoverflader for mat udseende med det blotte øje eller poly-5 merskorpeaflejring i en mængde over 1 g. Det matte udseende fortolkes som et forvarsel om uønsket polymerskorpe-aflejring i løbet af den umiddelbart efterfølgende charge. Følgelig bestemmes antallet af charger, som kan behandles efter den første charge uden uønsket skorpeaflejring, i 10 hvert forsøg. Resultaterne fremgår ligeledes af tabel III.

Claims (9)
1. Fremgangsmåde til polymerisation af vinylchlorid eller en monomerblanding indeholdende vinylchlorid som hovedbestanddel i en vandig suspension i en polymerisationsreaktor, kendetegnet ved, at man sætter mindst 5 ét additiv, som vælges blandt iodsalte af alkalimetaller og jordalkalimetaller, til en polymerisationsblanding i reaktoren.
2. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 1, kendetegnet ved, at alkalimetallerne er natrium eller kalium, 10 og at jordalkalimetallet er calcium.
3. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 1, kendetegnet ved, at additivet er til stede i en mængde på 3-5.000 vægtdele pr. million på basis af vægten af vinylchlorid eller monomerbiånding i polymerisationsblandingen.
4. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 1, kendeteg net ved, at additivet sættes til polymerisationsblandingen før begyndelsen af polymerisationen.
5. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 1, kendetegnet ved, at de overflader af polymerisationsreaktoren, 20 som kommer i kontakt med monomeren, overtrækkes med i det mindste enten en polær organisk forbindelse eller et organisk farvestof.
6. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 5, kendetegnet ved, at overtrækket er i en mængde på 0,005-1,0 g 2 25 pr. m overtrukket overflade.
7. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 5, kendetegnet ved, at den polære organiske forbindelse er vitamin B2, |3-caroten eller chlorophyl.
