Abstract
La presente invención incluye, en un aspecto, un compuesto tal como el que muestra la estructura I, y que se describen en la Sección II de la siguiente Descripción Detallada. Se ha descubierto que la administración de compuestos de esta clase aumentan las respuestas sinápticas mediadas por los receptores AMPA. Los compuestos de la presente invención son significativamente e inesperadamente más potentes que los compuestos descriptos anteriormente para aumentar la función del receptor AMPA en cultivos neuronales primarios y en rodajas de hipocampo de rata y para mejorar el desempeño cognitivo, tal como el desempeño en las tareas de igualación demorada de la muestra. Esta actividad inesperada se traduce en los compuestos farmacéuticos y los correspondientes métodos de uso, incluyendo los métodos de tratamiento que utilizan concentraciones significativamente menores (sobre una base de mol a mol) de los presente compuestos comparado con las composiciones de la técnica previa.
