Abstract
Description
- La présente invention concerne le domaine des produits de substitution des voiles de verre imprégnés.
- Plus précisément, l'invention concerne des produits en feuille obtenus par voie papetière, à très forte teneur en latex précipitée dans la masse.
- Il a été découvert que, de manière surprenante, il était possible d'augmenter dans une proportion considérable le taux de latex pouvant être précipité, tout en conservant la possibilité d'obtenir, directement par un simple passage sur machine à papier, des feuilles thermoplastiques présentant d'excellentes propriétés mécaniques.
- Pour la fabrication de ces feuilles, on utilisera en particulier la technique de "double floculation" qui a notamment été décrite dans la demande de brevet français n° 78 18447 déposée le 20 juin 1978, à laquelle l'homme du métier pourra utilement se reporter pour les détails de mise en oeuvre.
- Il est remarquable et surprenant de constater que des produits dont la composition sera décrite ci-après, comportant un taux de latex totalement inhabituel, pouvant atteindre par exemple 2/3 en poids du produit, ont pu être fabriqués sur machine à papier, ce qui n'était pas considéré auparavant comme possible.
- Les nouveaux produits obtenus se caractérisent par un niveau très élevé de résistance à la rupture, tant à froid qu'à chaud.
- De plus, il est très difficile, après enduction double face par exemple de plastisol (poudre PVC + plastifiant) suivie d'un traitement thermique à 160 - 200° C environ, de délaminer le produit composite obtenu.
- Le produit obtenu présente de plus une bonne aptitude à la pliabilité.
- En conséquence, les produits selon l'invention peuvent être utilisés comme produits de substitution des voiles de verre imprégnés dans des applications comme notamment les revêtements de sol et muraux.
- Il faut également noter que le choix du latex est déterminant dans la mise en oeuvre de l'invention, certains latex permettant d'obtenir un ensemble de bonnes propriétés : résistance à la rupture à froid et à chaud, résistance à la délamination et bon pouvoir d'adhésion vis-à-vis du PVC, stabilité dimensionnelle, caractéristiques de pliabilité, notamment.
- Les essais effectués sur un nombre important de latex ont montré que les copolymères vinyliques convenaient le mieux (cf. essais n° 11 221 et 11 222 dans le tableau I ci-après).
- On a également obtenu des résultats convenables avec des copolymères styrène-butadiène et des polymères ou copolymères comportant des motifs acryliques.
- Selon l'invention, on utilise environ 45 à 140 parties en- poids sec de mélange fibreux pour 100 parties en poids sec de latex.
- Le mélange fibreux utilisé selon l'invention est lui-même constitué de :
- - environ 30 à 90 parties en poids sec de fibres de cellulose; et de
- - environ 15 à 50 parties en poids sec de fibres non cellulosiques.
- Les fibres non cellulosiques seront de préférence des fibres de verre, ou bien aussi d'autres fibres minérales ou synthétiques telles que laine de roche, fibres de polyester et fibres analogues.
- Il est surprenant de constater qu'un support obtenu par voie papetière à partir d'une telle composition de base présente les bonnes caractéristiques indiquées ci-dessus, notamment en ce qui concerne la résistance à la rupture et la résistance à la délamination.
- On a obtenu de bons résultats en introduisant les floculants mentionnés plus haut dans l'ordre suivant :
- - mélange fibreux
- - 1er ajout de floculant
- - latex
- - 2e ajout de floculant
- - 3e ajout de floculant.
- On a utilisé dans les essais des fibres cellulosiques faiblement raffinées, notamment à 25° SR, et des fibres de verre de longueur environ 3 ou 4 mm et de diamètre 10-11 p.
- On pourra cependant utiliser des fibres de verre de longueur comprise entre 3 et 12 mm, de préférence 3 et 6 mm, et de diamètre compris entre 5 et 15 u.
- Le choix d'un type de fibre de verre conditionne le choix de la teneur en ces fibres dans le mélange, d'une manière connue de l'homme du métier.
- Comme floculants on pourra notamment utiliser les produits dont la liste est donnée dans la demande de brevet précitée et la demande de brevet européen correspondante n° 00006 390(cf. Tableau II ci-après).
- On pourra utiliser également, de manière classique, les adjuvants connus dans le domaine papetier, agents antimousse, colorants, agents de collage, de résistance sèche, humide, d'imputrescibilité, etc.
- Les compositions utilisées ainsi que les résultats des essais sont rassemblés dans le Tableau I ci-après. Ces exemples n'ont bien entendu pas de caractère limitatif.
- En particulier, la nature des floculants, leur dose (ainsi que le nombre et le lieu des points d'introduction) peuvent varier en fonction de la nature du latex utilisé, du matériel, et du temps de contact entre les produits ; la dose totale de floculants sera habituellement comprise entre 5 et 50 parties en poids sec pour 100 parties de latex.
- Le Tableau I et le mode opératoire ci-après fournissent notamment à ce sujet les indications qui permettront à l'homme du métier d'adapter la technique selon l'invention à une variation de ces paramètres.
- Le mode opératoire correspondant aux essais présentés dans le tableau I est le suivant :

- x1 est la quantité nécessaire à la précipitation totale. Le mélange est alors suffisamment stable pour être conduit jusqu'à la partie de tête de la machine où l'on effectue le dernier ajout de floculant.
- Les compositions décrites ci-dessus en ce qui concerne le tableau I présentent encore deux propriétés qu'il a été jugé souhaitable d'améliorer, notamment pour les applications où l'enduction de plastisol est effectuée sur une seule face, ce qui rend plus problématique l'obtention d'un bon à-plat du produit final.
- Ainsi, la stabilité dimensionnelle dans l'eau (test accéléré après 8 minutes d'immersion sur appareil FENCHEL) d'un tel produit préalablement étuvé 2 minutes à 200°C est de l'ordre de 0,20 % (allongement sens travers), et ce produit, après enduction de plastisol sur une face, présente un taux de roulage ou "curl" supérieur à 20 % (retrait sens travers). Pour la description du test, se reporter à la demande de brevet français n° 82 12 319.
- Selon les compositions préférées de l'invention décrites ci-dessous, on parvient à une stabilité dimensionnelle à l'eau inférieure à 0,10 % et à un taux de retrait au roulage inférieur à 5 %, ce qui représente des améliorations remarquables.
- L'homme de métier comprendra que la grande difficulté résidait dans le fait que l'amélioration recherchée de ces propriétés ne devait pas amoindrir les autres propriétés du produit obtenu.
- On sait en effet, par exemple, que, si l'on augmente la proportion de fibres de verre, on amoindrit rapidement les propriétés mécaniques (notamment en ce qui concerne la résistance à la délamination, propriété essentielle compte tenu de l'application envisagée comme revêtements de sols et muraux).
- On sait également que, dans un tel cas, on se heurte à l'apparition d'un phénomène dit de "peluchage" (extraction des fibres de verre, si elles sont en trop forte proportion).
- Il est donc surprenant de constater que l'invention soit parvenue à concilier des impératifs dont le caractère contradictoire - et donc a priori inconciliable - était connu.
- Les compositions préférées utilisées selon l'invention ainsi que les résultats des essais sont rassemblés dans le tableau III ci-après, à titre d'exemples non limitatifs (exemples 1 à 5).
- En particulier, la nature des floculants, leur dose, ainsi que le nombre et le lieu d'introduction, peuvent varier en fonction de la nature du latex utilisé, du matériel, du temps de contact entre les produits; la dose totale de floculants, qui dépend elle-même de la nature de ces floculants (en particulier du poids moléculaire, de l'ionicité, etc., du floculant), sera comprise entre 2 et 30 parties en poids, de préférence 3 et 10, pour 100 parties en poids de latex.
- Selon l'invention, après le "stade 1" décrit ci-dessus, il est intéressant d'effectuer un traitement complémentaire de "stade 2" dans le but d'améliorer encore :
- - l'état de surface (suppression du peluchage ou extraction des fibres de verre);
- - les propriétés de "barrière" à l'eau, aux plastifiants;
- - l'imputrescibilité;
- - la résistance mécanique;
- - la rigidité et la souplesse, donc les caractéristiques de roulage et de pliabilité.
- Pour combattre le roulage des produits enduits de plastisol sur une face au recto, on peut effectuer de préférence un traitement du stade 2 sur la face verso.
- Ces traitements de stade 2 peuvent être des opérations de couchage, d'imprégnation, de surfaçage, visant à déposer en surface ou à coeur des composants chimiques (par pulvérisation, size-press, coucheuse à lames ou rouleaux, etc.). On citera notamment l'ajout de latex ou de plastifiant par size-press.
- On pourra aussi effectuer des traitements thermiques et/ou mécaniques, tels que lissage ou calandrage à froid ou à chaud.
- L'homme de métier connaît ces techniques et saura choisir les produits à utiliser en fonction de la caractéristique souhaitée.
- Le produit sera déposé en général à raison de 10 à 100 g/m (état humide), soit 2 à 60 g/m2 après séchage (de préfé- rence 2 à 20 g/m2) dans le cas d'un traitement sur une seule face, et 3 à 40 g/m2 dans le cas d'un traitement sur les deux faces.
- On trouvera dans le tableau IV ci-après une comparaison entre les voiles de verre imprégnés connus et les produits selon l'invention (exemplesl à 5). L'homme de métier remarquera que les produits selon l'invention sont à la fois beaucoup plus légers, beaucoup moins denses et beaucoup plus solides.
- On trouvera encore ci-dessous trois exemples de compositions selon l'invention présentant un intérêt particulier.
