Definitions

  • the invention relates to a bleach-fixing bath which is suitable for processing color photographic silver halide materials and which is particularly environmentally friendly.
  • iron complex salts of aminopolycarboxylic acids for example the iron ammonium complex salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, are usually used as bleaching agents.
  • This and similar complexing agents that are also used are only very slowly biodegradable and therefore accumulate in the environment.
  • bleach-fixing baths containing iron complexes of readily biodegradable complexing agents such as nitrilotriacetic acid are used, then they lack sufficient bleaching capacity.
  • the object of the invention was to provide a bleach-fixing bath suitable for processing color photographic silver halide materials with silver chloride bromide emulsions with 0.3 to 2 mol% of silver bromide, which contains readily biodegradable constituents, has a sufficient bleaching effect and does not have any fixed excretions even after a long standing time.
  • complexing agents can be conventional complexing agents such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, propylenediaminetetraacetic acid, nitrilotriacetic acid or nitrilodipropion monoacetic acid or mixtures of these compounds. Only the complexing agent according to the invention is preferably used.
  • thiosulfates come e.g. Sodium, potassium and ammonium thiosulfate into consideration, which are preferably used in an amount of 0.2 to 2 mol / l.
  • Preferred bleach-fix baths also contain 0.02 to 0.3 mol / l sulfite.
  • the bleach-fix bath preferably contains an excess of 1 to 120 mol%, preferably 5 to 20 mol%, based on the iron complex, of free complexing agent.
  • the complexing agent of the formula I according to the invention advantageously differs from the other complexing agents known to be biodegradable when used as iron (III) complex in bleach-fixing baths.
  • iron (III) complex in bleach-fixing baths.
  • NTA nitrilotriacetic acid
  • IDA iminodiacetic acid
  • HEIDA hydroxyethyliminodiacetic acid
  • the bleach-fixing bath according to the invention is particularly suitable for color photographic silver halide recording materials which have at least one blue-sensitive, at least one green-sensitive and at least one red-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer on a reflective support (for example paper coated on both sides with polyethylene) Sequence at least one yellow coupler, at least one magenta coupler and at least one cyan coupler are assigned.
  • the bleach-fixing bath according to the invention is used within the customary processing method for color photographic silver halide materials.
  • the processing method can be carried out continuously with constant regeneration of the individual processing baths.
  • the bleach-fixing baths listed in the examples were examined for their bleaching behavior (residual silver in the processed material).
  • the exposed step wedge of the photographic material which was subsequently processed as described below, was examined for residual silver in the image blackness using an infrared silver detector PM 8030 from Photo-Matic, Denmark.
  • a color photographic recording material was produced by applying the following layers in the order given to a support on paper coated on both sides with polyethylene. The quantities are based on 1 m. For the silver halide application, the corresponding amounts of AgNO3 are given.
  • a step wedge was exposed on the photographic material described above and processed as follows: Develop 45s 35 ° C Fix bleach 45s 35 ° C Water 90s approx. 30 ° C dry Watering is carried out in 4 cascade stages of 22.5s each.
  • the individual processing baths had the following composition:
  • Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid EDTA 2 g Hydroxyethane diphosphonic acid (HEDP) 60 wt .-% 0.5 ml
  • EDTA Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid
  • HEDP Hydroxyethane diphosphonic acid
  • Sodium chloride 2 g N, N-diethylhydroxylamine, 85% by weight 5 ml
  • Potassium carbonate 25 g pH adjustment to 10 with KOH or H2SO4. Make up to 1 liter with water.
  • NTA Nitrilotriacetic acid
  • IDA Iminodiacetic acid
  • HEIDA Hydroxyethyliminodiacetic acid
  • ADA Nitrilomonopropionediacetic acid
  • the table shows that the detector value for freedom from silver, which should be ⁇ 4.0, can only be achieved with the iron complex of nitrilomonopropionediacetic acid.
  • Example 1 The material mentioned in Example 1 was processed in the process described there, with the exception that a stabilizer bath was used instead of the washing. The stabilization took place in 4 cascade steps of 22.5 s each at 35 ° C.
