Definitions
- the subject of the present invention is the use in a detergent composition of amorphous alkali metal silico-aluminate as sensors for calcium precipitates.
- the invention also relates to a detergent composition
- a detergent composition comprising at least one amorphous alkali metal silico-aluminate, alkali metal carbonate and at least one inhibitor of crystal growth of calcium carbonate, the alkali metal carbonate being the main agent. elimination of ionic calcium.
- This detergent composition can be used in particular in powder detergents for washing machines or dishwashers.
- a detergent composition must have a so-called "softening" effect on the water used for washing. It must therefore eliminate the calcium and magnesium which are present in water in the form of soluble salts and in the stains of the linen in more or less soluble complex forms.
- the elimination of calcium and magnesium can be done either by complexation in the form of soluble species, or by ion exchange, or by precipitation. When it comes to precipitation, it must be controlled to avoid encrustations on the linen or on the dishes or on the washing machines.
- this precipitation control can in particular be obtained by water-soluble polymers having an affinity for calcium and magnesium.
- this precipitation control may turn out to be insufficient and therefore unsatisfactory, this drawback being observed more particularly in the case where the detergent composition comprises, as calcium elimination agent, sodium carbonate.
- An object of the invention is therefore to propose a simple means in particular in order to obviate the drawback mentioned above.
- Another object of the invention is to have the possibility of proposing, by means of the means cited above, a detergent composition in which the main agent for removing calcium corresponds neither to phosphates nor to zeolites.
- calcium precipitates is meant the calcium precipitates which are obtained by precipitation of calcium with a product present in the detergent composition.
- the calcium precipitates are, more particularly, obtained by precipitation of calcium with the alkali metal carbonate, preferably sodium carbonate, present in the detergent composition.
- these calcium precipitates can also be obtained when the detergent composition contains a small quantity of phosphates, such as sodium tripolyphosphate, which sequester, under these conditions, in insoluble form the calcium.
- the amorphous alkali metal silico-aluminate capable of being used as calcium precipitate sensors, according to the invention, is a product well known per se and can be obtained by the general process which consists in mixing, preferably with stirring , a solution of alkali metal silicate and a solution of alkali metal aluminate or aluminum sulfate, alkali metal hydroxide can optionally be added, this mixture gels or precipitates, it is then filtered, washed and dried by any means known per se.
- the amorphous alkali metal silico-aluminate preferably used in the present invention has the general formula (1): x M2O, y Al2O3, z SiO2, w H2O, formula in which M represents an alkali metal, preferably sodium , x is between 0.2 and 2, y is equal to 1, z is between 0.2 and 15 and w belongs to the real positive different from O. More particularly, we use the amorphous silico-aluminate of formula (1 ) in which x is between 0.8 and 1.2, z is between 8 and 15 and w is between 0.3 and 9.
- the amorphous silico-aluminate used according to the invention has a calcium exchange capacity greater than or equal to 50 mg of CaCO3 / g of anhydrous silico-aluminate and / or has an absorbent capacity greater than 100 ml / 100 g, preferably greater than 150 ml / 100g ("DOP" intake, ISO 787/5 standard).
- the invention also relates to a detergent composition characterized in that it comprises at least one amorphous alkali metal silicoaluminate, alkali metal carbonate, preferably the alkali metal is sodium, and at least one inhibitor crystal growth of calcium carbonate, the alkali metal carbonate being present in particular as the main agent for the elimination of ionic calcium.
- the amorphous alkali metal silico-aluminate used in the detergent composition according to the invention is as defined above and preferably has the characteristics given previously.
- the alkali metal carbonate is present in the detergent composition according to the invention, in particular as a main agent for removing ionic calcium.
- the minimum quantity of alkali metal carbonate present in the detergent composition corresponds to the quantity necessary to precipitate the ionic calcium.
- the detergent composition is phosphate-free and zeolite-free.
- the composition according to the invention may comprise other agents for eliminating ionic calcium, such as in particular phosphates, more particularly sodium tripolyphosphates, or zeolites.
- the alkali metal carbonate removes more than half of the calcium present, the minimum total amount of these agents present in the detergent composition is then that necessary to remove the ionic calcium.
- the alkali metal carbonate can also give alkalinity in certain detergent compositions.
- the amount of alkali metal carbonate then corresponds to the amount necessary to precipitate the ionic calcium and to give the washing bath the desired pH.
- This pH is generally greater than 9, preferably greater than 10.
- the alkali metal carbonates used can be those of common qualities.
- detergent bath means the aqueous detergent solution (detergent composition) present in the washing machine during the washing cycles.
- inhibitors of crystal growth of calcium carbonate are meant products which therefore make it possible to stop the crystal growth of nuclei of calcium carbonate, without however preventing its nucleation. Indeed, without wishing to link the invention to any scientific theory, the presence of these inhibitors results in the rapid disappearance of the ionic calcium, without visible precipitation when alkali metal carbonate is added in hard water.
- These inhibitors are, in general, water-soluble polymers, possibly biodegradable. However, citric, tartaric and phosphonic acids (such as Dequest® marketed by Monsanto) and their salts are also suitable.
- the inhibiting polymers mention may in particular be made of: polyacrylic acids, preferably of molecular weights between 2000 and 10,000, and their salts, acrylic-maleic or vinylic copolymer acids, preferably of molecular weights between 50,000 and 70,000, and their salts, polyaspartic acids and their salts, the polyimide biopolymers described in French patent application No. 91,04566 filed April 15, 1991 in the name of the Applicant. These biopolymers have a COO ⁇ charge density which can range from 0 to 5.10 ⁇ 4 mole / g of polymer and capable of to acquire by hydrolysis in the detergent bath a charge density COO ⁇ at least equal to 10 ⁇ 3 mole / g of polymer. These inhibitors can be used alone or as a mixture.
- the detergent composition according to the invention preferably comprises from 2 to 10% of amorphous alkali metal silico-aluminate, from 10 to 30% of alkali metal carbonate and from 3 to 15% of growth inhibitors crystalline calcium carbonate, the percentages are given relative to the weight of said composition. More particularly, the detergent composition according to the invention comprises from 2 to 10% of amorphous alkali metal silico-aluminate, from 15 to 25% of alkali metal carbonate and from 3 to 6% of inhibitors of crystal growth calcium carbonate.
- the detergent composition can be prepared by any known means. It can in particular be prepared by the conventional method which consists in introducing the constituents into an aqueous suspension (slurry), this solution then being spray-dried.
- the detergent composition according to the invention advantageously comprises alkali metal silicate, preferably sodium silicate.
- This silicate can be introduced into the aqueous solution containing the other constituents of the detergent and then be co-atomized.
- the alkali metal carbonate and the alkali metal silicate are in the form of cogranules.
- the detergent composition comprises the amorphous alkali metal silico-aluminate, the crystal growth inhibitor of calcium carbonate and spherical cogranules based on hydrated alkali metal silicate and alkali metal carbonate.

Abstract
