Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the cutting of a part in a sheet blank.
  • the cutting of parts in a sheet blank is often carried out on a cutting device essentially comprising members with edges sharp, movable towards each other.
  • the devices to cut also have a blank holder to maintain the blank sheet metal in position between the die and the punch.
  • the cutting edge organs are formed, on the one hand, by a punch corresponding to the perimeter to be cut, the movement is slaved to that of a movable slide and, on the other hand, by a fixed matrix.
  • the matrix includes a shape imprint combined with said punch to obtain the desired cut.
  • the punch and the die are, as a rule, metallic and in particular made of tool steel for cutting metal sheets and the more often in carbide.
  • This technique of cutting pieces in a sheet metal blank by means of a device comprising a punch and a die is very often used, for example to make the various constituent elements of the stator electric motors, or to make magnetic circuits, or still in the automotive field in the context of making holes to lighten the structures.
  • This wear is due to the significant cutting force it is necessary to provide for cutting the workpiece and for the friction effect which product between the edge of the cut made in the sheet blank and the punch, at the time of the descent and the ascent of said punch.
  • steels whose ratio between the elastic limit and the load at break R e / R m is less than 0.8 and whose elongation percent at break A% is greater than 30, are very difficult to cut, and steels whose R e / R m ratio is between 0.9 and 1 and whose elongation at break is less than 20 are easier to cut.
  • This wear is also a function of the geometry of the part to be cut. Indeed, the pieces whose shape is very tormented and has sharp angles, for example of the stator type of an electric motor, are more difficult to cut than pieces of simple geometric shape.
  • the method consists in making a first pass during which is indented in a direction, for example from high at the bottom, then a second pass during which we perform a counterindentation in the opposite direction to the direction of the indentation, by example from bottom to top and finally a third total cutting pass in the sense of counterindentation.
  • the present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a cutting process which makes it possible to extend the duration of life of the punch and the die, significantly reducing the effort of cutting and the friction effect, while maintaining a very small clearance between the punch and the die.
  • the present invention thus relates to a method of cutting of a part in a sheet blank as defined by the independent claims.
  • the cutting device shown in Figure 1 is constituted by a device of known type usable for cutting a blank sheet metal 1.
  • This device comprises two cutting edge members, movable towards each other which are formed, on the one hand, by a punch 2 whose movement is slaved to that of a movable slide 3 and shaped corresponding to the perimeter to be cut and, on the other hand, by a matrix 4 linked to a fixed table 5 and of form conjugate to said punch 2 to obtain the desired cut.
  • the device cutting also includes a blank holder 6 for pressing the sheet blank 1 on matrix 4.
  • the punch 2 and the die 4 each have an edge sharp respectively 7 and 8 intended to cooperate with each other in time of descent of said punch to cut the sheet blank 1.
  • the part can be constituted either by the cut part 1a in the sheet blank 1, the remaining part 1b of the sheet blank constituting the drop, either by the remaining part 1b of said sheet blank 1, the cut part constituting the fall.
  • indentation 9 The direction of formation of indentation 9 is perpendicular to the main faces of the sheet blank 1 and the direction of formation of this indentation 9 is directed from a first main face to the other face main, regardless of the choice of the first main face and by example for a sheet blank positioned horizontally, from bottom to top or from top to bottom.
  • the blank holder clamps the sheet blank 1 on the die 4 and the punch 2 comes into contact with the sheet blank 1.
  • the stroke of the punch 2 is controlled in order to achieve only one indentation 9 on the sheet blank, that is to say to deform the sheet blank 1 without cut it out.
  • the depth p of the indentation 9 is between 0.416 (1 - e -1.279E ) - 0.05E and 0.416 (1 - e -1.279E ) + 0.1E E being the thickness of the sheet blank 1.
  • Indentation 9 performed prior to the cutting operation allows local modification of the mechanical characteristics of the metal constituting the sheet blank to improve its final cutting.
  • This embodiment allows, when the indentation step and the cutting step are carried out on two different devices, to keep a cutting rate identical to the process rate of the state of the technique in which the cutting is carried out in a single step.
  • the same can be used punch 2 to carry out the indentation operation of the sheet blank 1 and the operation for cutting the sheet blank 1 after indentation.
  • This embodiment allows cutting according to the method of the invention without the need to invest in a cutting device more complex.
  • the sheet blank 1 is pressed against the die 4.
  • the punch 2 moves.
  • the sheet blank 1 can be pressed against the punch 2 and, in this case, the die 4 moves.
  • Type A steel is an electric steel, the sheet having undergone a final annealing. This sheet is covered with a coating of the type consisting of a or several organic resins comprising an inorganic polymer (varnish class C5 according to the classification ASTM A 345), of thickness between 1 and 2 microns.
  • Type B steel is a steel that has a limit bearing elastic equal to 2.2% and the sheet has also undergone a final annealing.
  • Steel C is also coated with a class C5 vomit.
  • the table below gives the experimental results obtained as a function of the depth p of the indentation 9.
  • the tests were carried out on a device whose punch 2 is made of carbide, of diameter equal to 12 mm, and the matrix 4, also in carbide, with a diameter equal to 12.05 mm, or a clearance j between the punch 2 and the die 4 equal to 0.05 mm.
  • This value p is a function of the thickness E of the sheet blank to be cut must preferably be between: 0.416 (1 - e -1.279E ) - 0.05E and 0.416 (1 - e -1.279E ) + 0.1E (see hatched area in Figure 3).
  • the cutting edge When cutting a sheet blank 1 using of a device comprising a punch and a cutting edge matrix, the cutting edge has two zones: a first sheared zone 10 located on the punch side, and a second broken zone 11 located on the die side.
  • the sheared area 10 When cutting with a clearance j between the punch and the weak matrix, of the order of 0.05 mm for an average diameter of the punch equal to 50 mm, without prior indentation, the sheared area 10 is large, having a height H of the order of 70% of the thickness of the sheet blank, and the broken zone 11 is small, of the order of 30% of the thickness sheet metal blank.
  • This broken zone 11 has a general profile which is substantially straight and in the extension of the sheared zone 10 (see FIG. 4a).
  • the sheared zone 10 is less important, having a height H generally less than 50% of the thickness of the sheet blank, and the broken area 11 is larger, generally greater than 50% of the thickness of the sheet blank.
  • sheared zone 10 has a large bulge 12 at level of its connection with the main face of the sheet metal blank, and the area ruptured 11 is oblique (see Figure 4b).
  • the cutting method according to the invention gives results whatever the type of steel used, whether the sheet metal blank is bare (case of steels B, D, E and F) or coated (case of steels A and C).
  • This cutting process is particularly interesting in the case of so-called magnetic steels, because the use of this process allows, equal mechanical characteristics of the steel, making the cut with a clearance j between the punch and the lower die, which allows less degrade the magnetic properties of the sheet blank.
  • the process according to the invention is also particularly well suited for making a piece with a welded insert.
  • the two sheet blanks are sheared at the sharp edges of the tool, i.e. at the sharp edges of the die and cutting punch.
  • the deformation is more like stamping than shearing.
  • the insert 15 is produced from a sheet blank thicker than the sheet metal blank in which the receiving orifice 16 is formed of this insert.
  • the insert 15 risks therefore to detach from the sheet blank 17, before being able to perform the welding.
  • the stroke of the cutting punch is determined so that the upper surface of insert 15 is in the same plane as the surface upper of the sheet blank 17 intended to receive it.
  • the insert 15 is not cut from the rest of the sheet blank 18.
  • the insert is thinner than the sheet blank intended to receive it, it is the portion of the thickest sheet blank, located below of the insert which is not cut.
  • the upper face of the insert 15 is located below of the upper face of the sheet blank 17, as shown in FIG. 7.
  • the diameter D of the insert minus the diameter d orifice is greater than 0.
  • the first test consisted in cutting the insert separately from a first sheet blank and the orifice in a second sheet blank, but with the same tool.
  • the Applicant has found that systematically the diameter d of the hole minus the diameter D of the insert is less than 0 which means that the insert is larger than the orifice which must receive it.
  • the second test consisted in cutting the insert into a first sheet blank and the hole in a second sheet blank with different tools.
  • the diameter D of the mechanically cut insert fluctuates around 0.08mm depending on the metal thickness dispersion, the state of wear of the cutting punch, the dispersion of the mechanical characteristics of the metal or the phenomena ovalization.
  • the diameter of the orifice mechanically cut fluctuates by about 0.12mm.
  • the diameter d of the orifice minus the diameter D of the insert varies between 0 and 0.2mm.
  • the method according to the invention solves this problem.
  • the device shown in Figures 8 and 9 for setting work of the method according to the invention comprises, as for the previous ones embodiments, two parts with sharp edges, movable one towards each other which are formed, on the one hand, by a punch 2 whose movement is slaved to that of a movable slide 3 and of shape corresponding to the perimeter to be cut and, on the other hand, by a matrix 4 linked to a fixed table 5 and of form combined with said punch 2 to obtain the desired cut.
  • the device also includes a blank holder 6 for pressing the sheet blanks on the matrix 4, as will be seen later.
  • the punch 2 and the die 4 each have a stop sharp, respectively 7 and 8, intended to cooperate with each other in time of lowering of the punch 2.
  • the method according to the invention consists, first of all, in carrying out an indentation 20a on a first sheet blank 20 with a depth p1 determined, then carry out an indentation 21a on a second sheet blank 21 of a determined depth p2.
  • the two blanks of sheet 20 and 21 are positioned one on top of the other, overlapping the indentations 20a and 21b and by placing said sheet blanks 20 and 21 on the matrix 4.
  • each indentation 20a and 21a on each blank of sheet 20 and 21 is between 0.075E and 0.90E, E being the thickness of the blank corresponding sheet metal.
  • the blank holder 6 presses the sheet blanks 20 and 21 on the die 4 and the punch 2 comes into contact with the upper face of the indentation 20a, as shown in figure 8.
  • the stroke of the punch 2 is stopped when the portion 23 cut from the sheet blank 20 in contact with said punch 2 is adjusted in the orifice 24 formed in the sheet blank 21 in contact with the matrix 4.
  • cutting is carried out in a single operation simultaneous of the two sheet blanks 20 and 21 and the positioning of the insert 23 in the orifice 24 formed in the sheet blank 21.
  • This tool includes for example a punch for cutting 50.02mm in diameter and a matrix of 50.05mm in diameter.
  • the contact between the insert and the orifice is therefore better and the penetration of the cutting punch necessary at cutting is lower.
  • the metal grains at the cut are all deformed in the same direction because the cutting is carried out in the same direction than that of indentation.
  • the wear of the tools is Slower.
