LAS MICROESFERAS DE PROTEINA SE FORMAN MEDIANTE LA SEPARACION DE FASE EN UN IN-SOLVENTE SEGUIDO DE LA EXTRACCION DEL SOLVENTE. LAS PROTEINAS PREFERIDAS SON PROLAMINAS, TALES COMO ZEINA, QUE SON HIDROFOBICAS, BIODEGRADABLES Y QUE SE PUEDEN MODIFICAR PROTEOLITICAMENTE O QUIMICAMENTE PARA DOTARLAS DE LAS PROPIEDADES DESEABLES, COMO UN INDICE DE DEGRADACION SELECCIONADO. LAS MICROESFERAS COMPUESTAS SE PUEDEN PREPARAR DE UNA MEZCLA DE PROTEINAS O DE UNA MEZCLA DE PROTEINAS CON UNO O MAS MATERIALES POLIMERICOS BIODEGRADABLES TALES COMO POLILACTIDOS. TAMBIEN SE PUEDEN HACER REVESTIMIENTO DE PROTEINAS. LOS COMPUESTOS SE INCORPORAN FACILMENTE EN LAS MICROESFERAS PARA LA SUBSIGUIENTE LIBERACION.
