Un derivado de genipina representado por la siguiente fórmula (I)a, que tiene actividad protectora del hígado:**(Fórmula)** en la que R1 representa metilo; R2 representa metilo, piridilcarbonilo, bencilo o benzoílo; R3 representa azidometilo, 1-hidroxietilo, metilo, hidroxi, piridilcarbonilo, ciclopropilo, aminometilo no sustituido o sustituido con (1, 3-benzodioxolan-5-il)carbonilo o 3, 4, 5-trimetoxibenzoílo, 1, 3benzodioxolan-5-ilo, ureido-metilo no sustituido o sustituido con 3, 4, 5-trimetoxifenilo o 2-cloro-6-metil-3piridilo, tiometilo no sustituido o sustituido con 2-acetilamino-2-etoxicarboniletilo, oximetilo no sustituido o sustituido con 3, 4, 5-trimetoxibenzoílo; sus sales farmacéuticamente aceptables o estereoisómeros.
