UN PROCESO PARA LA PREPARACION DE ACIDO SULFURICO QUEMANDO LOS COMPONENTES OXIDIZABLES DE UNA SOLUCION DE ALIMENTACION OBTENIDA COMO UN SUBPRODUCTO DE LA PREPARACION DE ACIDO 2-HIDROXI-4(METIOLTIO)BUTIRICO ("HMBA") MEDIANTE LA HIDROLISIS DE 2-HIDROXI4-(METILTIO)BUTIRONITRILO ("HMBN"). SE PRODUCE UN GAS DE COMBUSTION QUE CONTIENE BIOXIDO DE SULFURO. SE ENFRIA EL GAS DE COMBUSTION PARA CONDENSAR AGUA Y ACIDO SULFURICO, DESPUES SE MEZCLAN CON UNA FUENTE DE OXIGENO PARA PRODUCIR UN GAS DE ALIMENTACION QUE CONTENGA AL MENOS APROXIMADAMENTE 0.9 MOLES DE OXIGENO POR MOL DE DIOXIDO DE SULFURO. EL GAS DE ALIMENTACION PASA POR ENCIMA DE UN CATALIZADOR PARA LA CONVERSION DE UN DIOXIDO DE SULFURO A TRIOXIDO DE SULFURO A UNA TEMPERATURA EFICAZ PARA LA CONVERSION.
