Abstract
Manufacturing process for ethanol and diethyl ether and, more particularly, for the simultaneous control of the production and recovery of ethanol and diethyl ether, characterized in that it includes (1) reacting ethylene gas and water vapor in the presence of a hydration catalyst in a hydration reaction zone at a temperature of about 230º to 315ºC to obtain a gaseous reaction product containing ethanol, diethyl ether, ethylene and steam; (2) cooling the gaseous reaction product to condense at least part of the ethanol and the steam; (3) contacting the resulting uncondensed gases with aqueous ethanol to remove a predetermined amount of diethyl ether from the gas; and (4) introducing the gas thus treated into the hydration reaction zone.
