Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotics A11725 Ia and IIa. Ia: color, white molecular formula, C37H61NO11 molecular weight, 695 melting point, 174-176 deg.C specific rotation [alpha]D=+2.7 deg. (c=1.0, methanol) positive to KMnO4 decoloration reaction, negative to ninhydrin reaction, etc. basic soluble in acidic water, methanol, benzene, etc., slightly soluble in basic water, insoluble in hexane. IIa: color, white molecular formula, C37H61NO12 molecular weight, 711 melting point, 148-150 deg.C specific rotation, [alpha]D=+18.7 deg. (c=1.0, methanol) basic solubility, same to Ia. USE:Antibacterial agent effective to respiratory diseases caused by gram-positive bacteria, e.g. staphylococci, and useful as a feed additive or remedy for animal diseases. PROCESS:Micromonospora sp. A-11725 strain (FERM-P No.4485, 4488) is cultured to obtain novel macrolide antibiotics A11725 I and II. The epoxy groups of the above antibiotics are converted to double bonds by treating with chromous chloride in an organic solvent.
