Abstract

573,997. Hoppers. PNEULEC, Ltd., and COWLAM, K. W. Oct. 15, 1943, No. 17020. [Class 78 (i)] The flow of granular material from a hopper is controlled by a discharge neck of rectangular cross-section having at its lower end a two-part gate consisting of two oppositely moving co-operating plates which are operated simultaneously by a lever. The arcuate plates 13, 14 which form the gate, are attached to arms 15, 18 which are supported by pivot pins 17, 20 mounted in lugs on the frame of the rectangular sheet metal neck 10. An arm 21 keyed on the pin 20 is coupled by a link 23 to an arm 24 free on the shaft 17 and by a link 22 to a plate 16 attached to the arm 15. Operating handles 25 are keyed to the shafts 17. The effective area of the neck is altered by adjusting the position of transverse plates 11. Inclined downwardly extending plates 12 close the gaps between the bottom of the neck and the plates 13, 14. In a modification the arms 15, 18 are provided with overlapping slots extending substantially at right angles to each other and receiving a stud on the operating handle.
