A disposable sanitary disposal unit comprises a water-tight receptacle 1 for the reception of waste material, an inlet into and means for closing the receptacle comprising an open-ended sleeve 6 depending within the receptacle and which has co-axially and slideably located within it a sleeve-like liner 7 open at its lower end 8 and closed at its upper end by a plate 9 which closes the receptacle when the liner is in its lowermost position and having an aperture 11 so that when the liner is raised the waste material may be inserted through the aperture, and means for introducing a germicidal or similar product into the receptacle. Said means may comprise a flexible bag 13 containing the germicidal or other product 14 suspended in the receptacle by a cord 15 ending in a loop 17 outside the receptacle, a pull on the loop 17 severing the neck 16 of the bag. Further means for introducing a germicidal product comprises an inverted flexible bottle 17, which also acts as a handle for the liner 7, pressure on the bottle ejecting fluid from a nozzle 22 or tube (not shown), the tube being positioned with respect to the aperture 11 so that the introduction of waste material pushing the tube allows liquid to flow from the bottle into the receptacle.
