Abstract

PURPOSE:To diagnose a readout data processing system circuit by reading test data for readout only at a specific position on a medium by an optical disk controller independently of a host device when the medium is loaded and a readable/writable state is set. CONSTITUTION:When an optical disk medium is loaded on a drive 31 and the readable/writable state is set, a controller 30 closes a gate 40, and blocks the transfer of the content of a buffer 33 to the host device. Next, by moving an optical head and reading out recorded test areas on 16 tracks at the innermost periphery of the medium, the diagnosis of the readout data processing system circuit in an optical disk device extending from the drive 31 to the controller 30 is performed. Thereafter, a fact that the readable/writable state of the medium is set is reported to the host device, and the buffer 33 is cleared, and the gate 40 is opened, then, preparation for an instruction from the host device is completed. Therefore, it is possible to eliminate a specific circuit to diagnose the optical disk controller or driving device.

Conventionally, in order for a device used for this type of optical disk control (hereinafter referred to as an optical disk control device or controller) to diagnose the read data processing system circuit section of the controller itself or an optical disk drive device (hereinafter referred to as a drive), 1 is required. A selector was provided in the middle of the original read data path, and the configuration was such that the microgross sensor in the controller could input diagnostic data to the read data processing circuit.

This is an example of diagnosis number 9 in . In response to commands from the microcomputer (MPU) 4=e in the controller IO, the data read out by the optical disk head of the drive 11 is processed using a phase-locked loop circuit (PLL).
) 19, a data discrimination clock a is obtained, and using this data discrimination clock a, data is framed by the code detector 18 and demodulated by the demodulator 17. It is converted into serial to parallel and input to the first input of the selector 21 of the controller IO. On the other hand, the other input of the selector 21 receives test data from the MPU 12 via the diagnostic register 20. The output of the selector 21 is subjected to error correction/checking in an error correction code circuit (ECC circuit) 15.

In the above-mentioned conventional optical disk control device used for optical disk control, in order to diagnose the read data processing circuit section, 1) a circuit that is unnecessary for the original read data processing is added, and 2. the entire circuit becomes large and expensive. There were drawbacks. Another drawback is that the microprocessor must also be fast in order to provide pseudo data at a speed equivalent to that of the original read data processing.

[Means for Solving the Problems] The optical disc control method of the present invention temporarily suspends reporting to the host device when an optical disc medium is installed in the drive and becomes readable/writable, and controls the drive and drive. By moving the optical head to a predetermined position that is not concerned with the host device and reading data recorded in advance in a formant different from the drive's predetermined specifications, the circuit of the read data processing system between the drive and the controller can be changed. The system performs a diagnosis, and then reports to the host device that it is possible to read and write to the optical disk medium.

FIG. 1 is a block diagram of an example of a read data processing system of an optical disk controller (controller) for carrying out the method of the present invention, including a read section of an optical disk drive. Components that are the same as those shown in FIG.
The data discrimination clock a is generated by the data discrimination clock a, and the data is subjected to 7-raming by the code detector 38 and demodulated by the demodulator 37 using the data discrimination clock a. This demodulated data is serial-parallel converted by the S/P circuit 36, inputted to the ECC circuit 35 of the controller 30, and after an error correction V check, a CRC check is performed by the CRC circuit 34, and then stored in the notation buffer 13. . The MPU 32 transfers the contents of the buffer 33 to the higher-level device by either outputting the contents of the buffer 33 by itself or by opening the key (key)=10 as necessary.

As explained above, the present invention enables the optical disk control device to specify information on the optical disk medium that cannot be accessed from the host device, without depending on a command from the host device, when the optical disk medium is loaded and becomes readable or unreadable. By reading the read-only test data located at the location, there is an effect that the circuit of the read data processing system can be diagnosed without adding a special circuit for diagnosis to the optical disk control device or the optical disk drive device.

In addition, by using the above function, when a normal read command is given from the host device and an error is detected in the data during reading, the optical disk control device (controller) can read the above test data at its own discretion. Reading also has the effect that it can be used to determine whether the cause of the error is the user data recorded on the medium or the circuitry of the read data processing system.

1. An optical disk medium is installed in the optical disk drive,
When the optical disk becomes ready for reading and writing, it temporarily suspends reporting to the higher-level device, moves the optical head of the optical disk drive device to a predetermined position that is not concerned with the higher-level device, and reads the optical disk that has been recorded in advance there. By reading data in a format different from the predetermined specifications of the drive device, the circuit of the read data processing system between the optical disk drive device and the optical disk control device is diagnosed, and then a report indicating that reading and writing to the optical disk medium is possible is sent to the upper level. An optical disc control method characterized in that:
