本発明は未定着画像を定着する際に、未定着画像に圧力
を加えるための定着用弾性ローラ及びローラ対の少なく

設けられた弾性層を有し、この弾性層は側端面のみに凹
部もしくは凹部が設けられていることを特徴とするもの
、及び圧接されたローラ対間に未定着画像を支持する像
支持材を通過させることにより未定着画像の定着を行な
う定着装置において、上記ローラ対の少なくとも一方は
弾性層を備えた弾性ローラであり、この弾性ローラの弾
性層は側端面のみに凹部もしくは凸部を有することを特
