The present invention relates to a new method for producing 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone. For more details, see the general formula () (wherein, X and Y represent the same or different halogen atoms) is catalytically reduced and dehalogenated in the presence of a reduction catalyst and a dehydrohalogenating agent. -Regarding a method for producing diaminobenzophenone. 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone is useful as a heat-resistant polymer monomer, agricultural medicine, dye intermediate, etc., and is an important substance that is a raw material for heat-resistant polyamides and polyimide resins. Conventionally, 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone is produced by reducing 3,3'-dinitrobenzophenone obtained by nitrating benzophenone. In this method, since the reaction product obtained by nitration of benzophenone is a mixture containing isomers, a large amount of solvent is used to isolate 3,3'-dinitrobenzophenone, Recrystallization purification must be repeated [E. Barnatt, J.
Chem.Soc 125 767 (1924)]. As a result, the yield of 3,3'-dinitrobenzophenone decreases significantly, and it is not economical because it requires complicated steps such as recovering the solvent used for purification and disposing of the residue. ,
It has the disadvantage that it is not suitable for the production of 3,3'-dinitrobenzophenone on an industrial scale. Furthermore, 3,3'-dinitrobenzophenone
To produce 3'-diaminobenzophenone, reduction was carried out with a large excess of stannous chloride in a large amount of concentrated hydrochloric acid (LHKlemm et al., J.org.chem23).
351 (1958)). However, tin compounds are expensive and there are problems with waste metal and waste acid treatment, making them extremely disadvantageous for industrial use both economically and from the standpoint of environmental protection. The present inventors have proposed 3.
A method for producing 3'-diaminobenzophenone was intensively investigated. As a result, we used 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone, which can be easily produced by nitration of 4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone, as a raw material, and used it as a reduction catalyst and It was discovered that 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone could be produced in high yield by catalytic reduction and dehalogenation in the presence of a hydrogenhalogenating agent, and the method of the present invention was completed. That is, the method of the present invention is based on the general formula () (wherein, X and Y represent the same or different halogen atoms) is catalytically reduced and dehalogenated in the presence of a reduction catalyst and a dehydrohalogenation agent, 3.
This is a method for producing 3'-diaminobenzophenone. 3,3'-dinitro- used in the method of the invention
4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone is 4,4'-
It is easily produced by nitration of dihalogenobenzophenones. For example, when 4,4'-dichlorobenzophenone is nitrated with a mixed acid, 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-dichlorobenzophenone is obtained in a yield of 95-98% [ERKofanov et al. J.Org.Chem of
USSR 15 98-100 (1979)]. Regarding this 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone, 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone
4,4'-dichlorobenzophenone or 3,3'-
Dinitro-4,4'-dibromobenzophenone is reduced using zinc chloride in hydrochloric acid to yield
The fact that the corresponding 3,3'-diamino-4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone can be produced;
When 3'-dinitro-4,4'-dibromobenzophenone is reduced with sodium amalgam, 3,3'-
It is known that diaminobenzohydrol can be obtained [Ber 48 1027 (1915)]. In this way, in the reduction of 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone, the nitro group is reduced to an amino acid. Depending on the reaction conditions and reducing agent, reduction and dehalogenation reactions may occur. However, it is known that the carbonyl group of benzophenone is further reduced to a benzhydrol compound. However, the production of 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone from 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone and the In the reduction of phenone, it suppresses the reduction reaction of the carbonyl group,
There is no known method for proceeding with only the reduction of a nitro group to an amino group and the dehalogenation reaction, and the present invention provides a novel method for industrially producing 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone. be. The raw material used in the method of the present invention is 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-
In the dihalogenobenzophenone, in the general formula (), the halogen atoms represented by X and Y may be chlorine, fluorine, iodine, or bromine. For example, 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-dichlorobenzophenone, 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-
Dibromobenzophenone, 3,3'-dinitro-
4,4'-difluorobenzophenone, 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-diiodobenzophenone, 3,
Examples include those in which the halogen species are the same or different, such as 3'-dinitro-4-chloro-4'-bromobenzophenone and 3,3'-dinitro-4-chloro-4'-iodobenzophenone. Among these, those in which the halogen is a chlorine atom are industrially advantageously used. The reduction catalyst used in the method of the present invention includes:
Metal catalysts commonly used in catalytic reduction, such as nickel, palladium, platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, cobalt, copper, etc., can be used. Industrially it is preferred to use palladium catalysts. These catalysts can also be used in the metallic state, but are typically carbon, barium sulfate,
It is used by being attached to the surface of a carrier such as silica gel or alumina, and nickel, cobalt, copper or the like is also used as a Raney catalyst. The amount of catalyst used is
The amount of metal is in the range of 0.01 to 10% by weight based on the raw material 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone, and usually 2 to 8% by weight when used in the metal state. %, when attached to a carrier
It ranges from 0.1 to 5% by weight. The dehydrohalogenating agents used in the process of the invention include alkali metal or alkaline earth metal oxides, hydroxides, carbonates, bicarbonates, or ammonia or the usual organic amines. For example, calcium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, magnesium oxide, ammonium bicarbonate, calcium oxide, lithium hydroxide, barium hydroxide, potassium carbonate, potassium hydroxide, ammonia, triethylamine, tri-n-butylamine, triethanolamine, pyridine and N-methylmorpholine is mentioned. Two or more of these dehydrohalogenating agents may be mixed if necessary. The amount of dehydrohalogenation agent used is based on the raw material 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone.
Usually 0.5 to 5 times the mole, preferably 2 to 3 times the mole. The method of the invention typically uses a reaction solvent.
The reaction solvent is not particularly limited as long as it is inert to the reaction, and examples include alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, and isopropyl alcohol, glycols such as ethylene glycol and propylene glycol, ether, dioxane, and tetrahydrofuran. , ethers such as methyl cellosolve, aliphatic hydrocarbons such as hexane and cyclohexane, aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene and xylene, esters such as ethyl acetate and butyl acetate, dichloromethane, chloroform,
Carbon tetrachloride, 1,2-dichloroethane, 1,1,
Halogenated hydrocarbons such as 2-trichloroethane and tetrachloroethane, N,N-dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide, etc. can be used. If the reaction progresses slowly when using a reaction solvent that is immiscible with water, it can be accelerated by adding commonly used phase transfer catalysts such as quaternary ammonium salts and quaternary phosphonium salts. I can do it. The amount of solvent used is based on the 3,3'-
An amount sufficient to suspend or completely dissolve the dinitro-4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone is sufficient, and although not particularly limited, it is usually sufficient to use 0.5 to 10 times the weight of the raw material. be. The reaction temperature is not particularly limited. Generally 20~
A range of 200°C, particularly a range of 20 to 100°C is preferred. In addition, the reaction pressure is usually normal pressure to 50Kg/cm 2・G
That's about it. As a general embodiment of the method of the present invention, 3.
A reduction catalyst is added to 3'-dinitro-4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone dissolved or suspended in a solvent, and then hydrogen is introduced at a predetermined temperature with stirring to reduce the nitro group. After this, a dehydrohalogenation agent is added and the dehalogenation reaction is continued, or a dehydrohalogenation agent is added at the time of addition of the reduction catalyst and hydrogen is introduced at a predetermined temperature under stirring to convert the nitro group. Examples include methods such as carrying out reduction and dehalogenation reaction at the same time. In either case, the reaction proceeds smoothly and the desired product, 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone, can be produced. However, since the halogen atom at the 4,4'-position of the raw material 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-dihalogenobenzophenone has nucleophilicity, dehydrohalogenation may be required depending on the conditions. Method 2 is preferable because it may cause a side reaction with the agent and reduce the yield of the target product. Does the progress of the reaction depend on the theoretical amount of hydrogen absorption?
Alternatively, it can be traced by thin layer chromatography. After removing the catalyst and inorganic salts from the reaction solution obtained by the above method by heating or extraction, 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone is crystallized without concentration as necessary. Let it precipitate. Alternatively, 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone can be isolated as a hydrochloride by blowing hydrogen chloride gas into the reaction solution from which the catalyst and inorganic salts have been removed. The method of the present invention enables the production of 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone in high yield and at low cost, without the problems of environmental pollution caused by wastes associated with conventional methods, and in addition, It is suitable as an industrial production method because it has high purity and does not require complicated purification steps. Hereinafter, the present invention will be explained in more detail with reference to Examples. Example 1 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-dichlorobenzophenone 50 g (0.15 mol), calcium oxide 21 g
(0.38 mol), 1 g of 5% palladium/alumina catalyst (Japan Engelhard Co., Ltd.) and 350 ml of 1,2-dichloroethane were charged into an autoclave. 30
In the temperature range of ~50°C, hydrogen was introduced with stirring and the reaction was carried out for 10 hours while constantly maintaining the pressure at 10 kg/cm 2 ·G. After the reaction was completed, the reaction mixture was heated to 70°C and heated to remove the catalyst and inorganic salt. By cooling, 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone was obtained as yellow needle-like crystals. The crystals were filtered, washed with 10 ml of 1,2-dichloroethane, and then dried. The yield was 21.2 g (yield 67%), and the product was recrystallized from ethanol with a melting point of 149-150.5°C to obtain a pure yellow needle-like crystal. When hydrogen is introduced while stirring, the temperature reaches 41.5 in about 8 hours.
(1.85 mol) of hydrogen was absorbed. Next, 80 g (0.8 mol) of a 40% caustic soda aqueous solution was added and hydrogen was introduced while stirring at a temperature of 70 to 80°C, and 13.8 (0.62 mol) was absorbed in 3 hours. The reaction solution was filtered at the same temperature to remove the catalyst, and when allowed to cool, 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone was precipitated as yellow needle-like crystals. The crystals were filtered, washed with 30 ml of 50% dioxane aqueous solution, and dried. Yield 59.2

When hydrogen was introduced with stirring at a temperature of ~70°C, 20.2 (0.9 mol) of hydrogen was absorbed in about 6 hours. Next, 180 g (0.45 mol) of 35% potassium carbonate aqueous solution and 3 g of trioctylmethylammonium chloride 90°C aqueous solution (Tokyo Kasei Reagent) were added.
Hydrogen was introduced while stirring at a temperature of 65 to 70°C, and 7.4 (0.33 mol) was absorbed in about 5 hours.
After filtering the reaction solution at the same temperature to remove the catalyst, the organic layer of the filtrate is separated. Magnesium sulfate was added to the organic layer for dehydration, and then dry hydrogen chloride gas was blown into the organic layer until it was fully saturated. The precipitated crystals were filtered, washed with 50 ml of benzene, and dried to obtain 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone hydrochloride. Yield 33.2g (yield 78%)
