Abstract

PURPOSE:To obviate idle feed of a carriage frame and to shorten the welding time by providing rolling rolls respectively in front and in rear in the moving direction of the carriage frame of welding electrodes. CONSTITUTION:In the case of narrow lamp seam welding, the welding electrodes 4 and rolling rolls 5 at the rear position thereof are used to perform welding. Accordingly, welding is finished by making the carriage frame 1 to travel on the right on a base frame 2. At this time, the interval between rolling rolls 6 is extended. In the case of narrow lap seam welding with pre-lap operation, ends of materials 3 to be welded are then superposed on each other by minute dimensions. The carriage frame 1 is then moved to the right and rolled under the ordinary temperature by the rolling rolls 5 in rear of the welding electrodes 4 and the thickness of the superposed part is reduced. At this time, the welding electrodes 4 and the rolling rolls 6 are not operated. Afterward, the superposed quantity is reduced and then, the carriage frame 1 is moved on right and left and welding is performed by the welding electrodes 4 and continuously, a weld zone is smoothed by the rolling rolls 6.

Incidentally, recently, narrow lap seam welding with pre-lap operation has been developed, which allows the welded part to be finished to a thickness that is almost the same as the thickness of the material. As shown in Figure 3, the process is as follows: First, the end of the clamped material to be welded B) is cut (a in the figure), then the minute dimensions are overlapped (b in the figure), and then the material is kept at room temperature. Once rolled, the thickness of the overlapped portion is reduced (C in the same figure). After that, after reducing the overlapping amount slightly, welding is performed using a welding electrode (d in the same figure), and finishing is performed by rolling (e in the same figure).
That is, the process shown in FIG. 3C is newly added.

In the case of narrow lap seam welding with pre-lap operation, the carriage frame is moved and the thickness of the weld zone is first reduced by rolling with rolling rolls placed behind the welding electrode, where the materials to be welded are overlapped. Reduce the amount slightly. Subsequently, the carriage frame is moved in the opposite direction to weld the welded portion using a welding electrode, and then rolling is performed using the other rolling roll.

Thereafter, the amount of overlapping is slightly reduced, and then the carriage frame (1) is moved to the left. In this process, first, welding is carried out using a welding electrode (), and the welded area is rolled under high temperature by a rolling roll (6) located in the front (right) position to reduce the thickness of the welded part and smooth it. Therefore, the rolling rolls are not operated in this step.

As described above, this invention provides rolling rolls at the front and rear positions of the welding electrode in the moving direction of the carriage frame, so that it is possible to perform both types of welding: narrow lap seam welding and narrow lap seam welding with bre-lap operation. In the apparatus that performs welding, there is no idle feeding process of the carriage frame, and the welding processing time is shortened.
