Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は内部浸透材を有する吸収製品に関する。
超吸収材を用いて吸収製品を作ることにより該吸収製品
のかさを大幅に減らすことが可能になる。しかしなが
ら、おむつや衛生ナプキン等の吸収製品に超吸収材を利
用するという試みはこれまで限られた範囲でしか成功し
ていない。超吸収材を吸収製品中に「固定」又は固着す
るのはなかなか難しいことである。米国特許第3,971,37
9号には超吸収材の層が別の吸収性構造材と一緒に折り
たたまれるか又は巻回されている吸収製品が開示されて
いる。第２に、超吸収材はそれ自体の重さの数百倍もの
液体を吸収かつ保持するが、液体はその中になかなか容
易に浸透して行かないという欠点を有する。吸収製品に
於いて超吸収材が液体をその中に浸透させる能力を有し
ないまま液体を吸収して急速に膨潤すると、液体自体が
「ブロツク」を形成して超吸収材の残りの部分又は吸収
製品中の他の吸収材を吸収の目的のために利用すること
が阻害されてしまう。
超吸収材を吸収製品に利用する新規な方法は超吸収材を
繊維構造体中に混入して上記の「ブロツク」の問題を回
避する方法に集中している。米国特許第4,105,033号に
は超吸収材を繊維構造体中に混入するための方法が示さ
れており。また米国特許第4,226,237号には、超吸収材
を分散させるのが可能な、吸収性繊維と泥炭コケから成
るより改良された繊維構造体が記載されている。
本発明に超吸収材を吸収製品中に利用するための新規な
手法を用いている。超吸収材が「ブロツク」の形成を阻
止するように分散されている新規な繊維構造体を得よう
とする試みではなく、本発明は単独で用いた場合には
「ブロツク」を起す可能性のある超吸収材を含む公知の
繊維材料を用いることが出来る。本発明の吸収製品に於
いては、超吸収材は繊維構造体若しくは発泡体中に分散
されていても良いし、又は単独若しくは他の成分と共に
フイルム中に存在する形であつても良い。本発明によれ
ば、液体を超吸収材まで選ぶために内部浸透手段が吸収
製品中に設けられている。この浸透手段は超吸収材を含
む複数のそれぞれ別個の層の周囲を包囲しているか又は
この層のまわりに折り曲げられている。
吸収性繊維材料を折り曲げて吸収製品を形成する方法は
米国特許第2,952,259号に示されている。しかしなが
ら、超吸収材や内部浸透手段については全く言及されて
いない。
本発明は複数の別個の超吸収材層を有する吸収製品に関
する。この吸収製品は超吸収材層の周囲及び間に巻回さ
れた浸透手段を備えている。この浸透手段は浸透層及
び、この浸透層と超吸収材層との間に設けられた液体移
送手段から構成されている。超吸収材層には繊維層中若
しくは繊維層上に分散された超吸収物質，発泡材中に分
散された超吸収材，又は超吸収材から一部又は全部構成
されているフイルムから成ることが出来る。「Orlon」
（商標）製布地，泥炭コケ又は木材パルプ組織材料を上
記の浸透層として利用することが出来る。上記液体移送
層はパルプ組織材料で構成することが出来る。液体不透
過性材料から成る部分的外包が、吸収製品の主たる表面
の一方以外のすべての面のまわりに配設される。使い捨
ておむつの場合、使い捨ておむつの外側表面にプラスチ
ツクフイルム製の部分的外包を密着して、おむつを補強
し、使用時に於ける粘着テープ片の取付性を改善するこ
とも可能である。
本発明は超吸収材を新規な方法で利用している吸収製品
に関する。本発明によれば、超吸収材を含む吸収製品中
において液体を移動させるために内部浸透手段が利用さ
れる。
第１図に概略図示した通り、参照番号10で全体を示した
本発明に係る吸収製品の一実施態様は、超吸収材を混入
した、少なくとも２枚の別個の層12を含んでいる。さら
に、この吸収製品は、超吸収材層の周囲及び間に巻回さ
れてＳ字に設けられた浸透手段14を含んでいる。本発明
は超吸収材層の形状や構成に係るものではなく、超吸収
材を含有する種々の材料を利用することが出来る。例え
ば、超吸収材層は繊維層又は発泡層中に混入した超吸収
材により構成することが出来る。超吸収材を繊維層又は
発泡体中に混入する方法は余り重要ではない。なぜな
ら、液体が超吸収材層を貫通する必要はなく、上記超吸
収層の表面が液体を吸収することしか必要でないからで
ある。実際、本発明によれば、超吸収材層は超吸収材で
全部又は一部形成されたフイルムから成ることが出来
る。本発明の吸収製品に於いては、吸収製品の内部浸透
手段が液体を超吸収材まで運ぶので、超吸収材層が液体
を浸透させたり、移送する必要はない。従つて、超吸収
材層内で超吸収材が膨潤しても、この超吸収材が吸収製
品内の液体の移動を妨げることにならない。超吸収材が
吸収製品のどこかで膨潤したり又は飽和に至ると、内部
浸透手段は吸収すべき液体を隣接するまだ吸収作用のあ
る超吸収材まで単に移送するだけである。
以下に記載する試験データは内部浸透手段を有する本発
明の吸収製品の優位性示すものである。第１図に示した
ような吸収製品を備えた３種類のおむつ構造体の吸収能
力を試験した。実際のおむつ使用状態を再現する趣旨で
採用した試験法において、おむつを夫々等身大の人形の
回りに固定し、試験液を人形からおむつ中に150ミリリ
ツトルのアリコート（aliquat）で、各アリコート間に2
0分ずつ間隔をおいて注入する。試験液の漏れが観察さ
れた時点で試験を中止する。試験の前後でおむつの重量
を測定して、おむつの吸収した試験液の量を決定する。
おむつはそれぞれおむつ本体と共押出成形されたヴイス
クイーン（Visqueen）ポリプロピレン製フイルムの裏張
り（17.5インチ×12インチ、約44.5cm×30.5cm）と100
％型押，坪量0.7オンス／平方ヤード（約23.7g/m2）の
ポリプロピレン製布地から成るほゞ同じ大きさの表張材
とを具備するものであつた。超吸収材層はヘンケル社に
より製造された坪量８グラム／平方フイート（約8.7g/m
2）のヘンケル布地S6Pから成るものであつた。このヘン
ケル布地は組織材料から成る２枚の層の間に、セリウム
イオンを触媒として用いて製造した粉末状の澱粉−アク
リロニトリルグラフト共重合体であるS6P−147を設けて
構成されている。No.1のおむつでは、表張シートと裏張
シートの間に設けたおむつの吸収体が２枚のヘンケル超
吸収性繊維層S6Pで構成され、内部浸透手段は備えてい
ない。吸収力は72.8グラムであつた。No.2のおむつで
は、表張シートと裏張シートの間に入れた吸収製品が、
間に組織材料のＳ字形浸透層を有する、同じヘンケル布
地から成る２枚の層から構成されていた。No.2のおむつ
の吸収力は165.9グラムであつた。No.3のおむつの場
合、裏張シートと表張シートの間に入れた吸収製品が同
じヘンケル超吸収繊維層２枚と「Orlon」（商標）布地
から成るＳ字形の内部浸透層とで構成されていた。No.3
のおむつの吸収力は179.1グラムであつた。
第２図は第１図に概略図示した本発明の吸収製品の一実
施態様を示している。この実施態様に於いては、参照番
号20で示した吸収製品が２枚の超吸収材層22と、浸透層
26及び液体移送手段28から成る内部浸透手段24とから構
成されている。液体を浸透させる性質の良好なものであ
る限り、どんな材料で上記の浸透層26を構成しても良
い。この材料が良好な吸収力を備えていたり、応力下に
おいて液体を保持する能力を有する必要はない。この浸
透層として使用するのに好適な材料は「Orlon」（商
標）製布地，パルプ組織材料又は泥炭コケである。液体
移送手段を浸透層と超吸収材層の少なくとも主たる面と
の間に設けることが出来る。上述の実施例ではヘンケル
布地の組織層が液体移送手段として作用する。上記の液
体移送手段28が液体を浸透層から超吸収材層へ移送させ
る。中間に液体移送手段を用いることは内部浸透手段す
なわち流路を常に空けておくのに役立ち、超吸収材層に
液体を吸収させるために液体移送手段が液体を保持して
いる間に浸透層が液体を吸い込むのを可能にする。
吸収製品20は主要な面32a及び32b、側縁34及び図面中に
は示されていないが端縁を有する。吸収製品は液体不透
過性材料の部分的外包30を備えることが可能で、この部
分的外包が吸収製品の少なくとも一方の主要な面32aと
側縁34を覆い、さらに両端縁を覆うことも可能である。
この部分的外包を設けるのが吸収製品の構成にとつて好
ましい。なぜなら、液体不透過層が吸収製品中に液体を
保持し、液体が超吸収材層に吸収されるのに時間的余裕
を与えるからである。さらに、この外包を有する構成を
用いている吸収製品では、上記の液体不透過層が変色や
他の吸収材料、例えば上記吸収製品中に用いられている
再破砕パルプの組織を隠ぺいし、さらに濡れた場合に超
吸収材がゲル状になるが、それをカプセル化して隠ぺい
する。この好適な吸収製品の部分的外包で覆われていな
い側の主要は面32b上に表張層36を設けることも可能で
ある。
第2A図は第１図に概略示した本発明の吸収製品の他の実
施態様を示している。参照番号20aで全体的に示した吸
収製品は超吸収材層22aと内部浸透手段24aとを有する。
この浸透手段は浸透層26a及び液体移送手段28aを有す
る。この実施態様に示したように、液体移送手段は浸透
層と同じ大きさの層を含むことが出来る。この構成で
は、浸透層を２層の液体移送手段の間に設けることが可
能で、この多層複合構造体をＳ字形に超吸収材層の周囲
及び間に巻回することが出来る。この浸透手段の構成と
本発明の吸収製品の構成を第２図に示されたものと違つ
ている。即ち、第２図では、液体移動手段が浸透層と各
超吸収材層の主要な面の間に設けられている。第２図に
おいて参照番号30及び36で示したものに相当する液体不
透過層30及び表張層36を上記実施態様に組み入れること
も可能である。衛生ナプキンとして用いる場合、この吸
収製品は下着に粘着するための粘着テープ片38をさらに
具備することが出来る。
第３図は本発明の吸収製品の他の実施態様を示し、これ
は参照番号40で全体的に示されている。第３図に断面で
示した吸収製品は超吸収材層42と、この超吸収材層の周
囲及び間にｅ字状に巻回した浸透層46から構成された内
部浸透手段44とを備えている。この浸透手段は浸透層46
と液体移送手段48とから成る。図示した具体例に於いて
は、浸透層を超吸収材層の周囲及び間に巻回するに先だ
つて超吸収材層がそれぞれ組織材料のような液体移送手
段中に包み込まれている。上記の液体移送手段による包
装と浸透層の巻回が完了すると、浸透層が超吸収材層の
主要な面を横切つて伸び、液体移送手段が浸透層と超吸
収材層の各主要面の間に配設される。浸透層と液体移送
手段とをこの超吸収材層に隣接して配置することによつ
て超吸収材層に対する内部浸透手段を設ける。所望によ
り、本発明の吸収製品のこの実施態様に、第２図及び第
2A図に関連して説明したような表張層36及び部分的外包
34を組み入れることも可能である。
本発明において用いる超吸収材は、自身の乾燥重量の10
〜30倍、好ましくは数百倍の液体を吸収する能力を有す
る種々の水性コロイド又は水性ゲル形成能を有する物質
から成つている。多くの超吸収材が当業界において知ら
れており、本発明は超吸収材の化学的又は物理的構造
や、超吸収材が他の材料、例えば、繊維と一緒に繊維層
中に入れられた複合材の構造に係わるものではない。超
吸収材は急速に膨潤して液体がさらに通過するのを阻止
する傾向があるので、殆んどの最終製品への応用例にお
いて超吸収材は繊維や発泡体のような他の材料と混用さ
れて、超吸収材を分散して液体の流通を阻止しないよう
にしている。本発明の吸収製品は別個に設けた複数の超
吸収材層を含んでいるので、繊維層又は発泡体層を折つ
たり又は曲げたりして、超吸収材がこの繊維層又は発泡
体層から離れて丸まつてしまうような事が防止される。
さらに、本発明の吸収製品の構成は超吸収材層を折りた
ゝむより簡単な製造方法を提供し、さらに浸透層中で使
用する浸透材の長さが；米国特許第3,791,379号に示さ
れたような折りたたまれた形状で使用されるものより
も、短かくて済む。
第４図は本発明の吸収製品を用いた使い捨ておむつを示
している。本発明の吸収製品は衛生ナプキン類や包袋等
のさまざまな構造体並びに種々のおむつ構造体に於いて
利用することが出来る。第４図は参照番号50で全体を表
したおむつ構造体を示している。この構造体は外側層5
2、この外側層に取り付けた本発明に係る吸収製品10及
び粘着テープ片56とから構成されている。このおむつは
その内側面を形成する表張層58をさらに含むことが出来
る。
第５図に示した通り、本発明の吸収製品が上述の第２図
及び体2A図（又は第３図）中の吸収製品20（又は40、第
５図中に図示せず）に関連して示した液体不透過性材料
の部分的外包30を具備している場合、全体として参照番
号60で示したおむつの外側層62が液体に対して不透過性
である必要はない。好ましい構成において、吸収製品の
外側層62と外包30が両方ともプラスチツク製フイルムで
形成される。おむつ中に吸収製品を固着することにより
２枚のプラスチツク製フイルムが固定され、その結果お
むつの外側層を補強することになる。粘着テープ片66を
上記の２層構造のプラスチツク製積層シートからより容
易にはく離することが出来るので、プラスチツク製フイ
ルムの外側層を破つて粘着テープ片を使用不能にし、か
つおむつの内部吸収材が外に出て来てしまつたりするこ
ともなく、おむつを使用のために拡げることが出来る。
さらに、粘着テープ片をきれいにはがすことが出来るの
で。おむつをしつかりと止めることが出来る。外包30を
備えた本発明の吸収製造の構成の場合、おむつからゲル
状になつたパルプや超吸収材が漏れ出ることもない。
第６図は第５図のおむつをその外側の面から見た図であ
り、外側層62が部分的外包30に隣接している個所で該外
側層が補強されしかも粘着テープ片66の付け変えが容易
になつているのが示されている。図示した好ましい実施
態様において、おむつには足に当たる部位に弾力性のあ
るギヤザ68が設けられている。
なお、以上の説明及び図面は例示的なものであつて限定
的なものとして解釈してはならない。本発明の精神及び
範囲から逸脱すること無く他の変更や改変が可能であ
る。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】第１の分離した超吸収材含有層と、第２の
    分離した超吸収材含有層と、前記第１および第２の分離
    した超吸収材含有層の間および周囲に配置される連続的
    な浸透手段を含む吸収製品であって、 前記第１および第２の分離した超吸収材含有層はそれぞ
    れ一対の主面および一対の側縁を有し、これら各超吸収
    材含有層の主面および少なくとも一つの側縁は前記浸透
    手段と接している吸収製品。
  2. 【請求項２】前記浸透手段は、浸透層および、この浸透
    層と前記各超吸収材含有層の間に配置される液体移送手
    段を含む特許請求の範囲第１項記載の吸収製品。
  3. 【請求項３】前記液体移送手段は、前記浸透層より高い
    毛管圧を有する特許請求の範囲第２項記載の吸収製品。
