[0004] Among them, an ink jet head that uses an electrothermal transducer as a discharge energy generating means and discharges a discharge medium droplet from a discharge port by thermal energy has the following advantages. That is, it is possible to easily arrange a convenient configuration for arranging ejection ports for ejecting ejection medium droplets at high density and obtaining a print with high resolution.
In addition, the structure is easy to make compact. Further, the semiconductor device can be manufactured by fully utilizing the advantages of an IC manufacturing technology and a micro-machining technology in which the technical progress and the reliability have been remarkably improved in the recent semiconductor field. By using these technologies, it is easier to increase the length, to increase the dimension, to increase the number of discharge ports, and to increase the density, to achieve mass production and to reduce the manufacturing cost.

By the way, it is important to make the joining surface between the substrate 13 and the grooved plate 16 in close contact from the viewpoint of the ejection performance and the reliability of the ink jet head 10. In order to reduce the loss of the bubbling energy at the time of discharging the discharge medium, it is particularly necessary to securely join the tip end surface of the nozzle wall 15 to the substrate 13. In order to bring the bonding surfaces of the substrate 13 and the grooved plate 16 into close contact with each other, a method of bonding these with an adhesive or a method of bonding the substrate 13 and the substrate 13 as disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. Hei 4-247946. A method is known in which the grooved plate 16 is pressed against the holding plate spring.

The bonding resin layer 31 is obtained by melting fine-grained polysulfone with an organic solvent such as cyclohexanone, forming a thin film on the substrate 13 by spin coating, and irradiating an excimer laser beam in a masked state. The pattern may be formed so that these do not remain above each of the electrothermal transducers 11 facing the nozzle-shaped passages 14. The width W 1 of the joining resin layer 31 needs to be larger than the width W 2 (see FIG. 6) of the tip end surface of the nozzle wall 15.
It is desirable to keep it to such an extent that it is not located above.

After the coating layer 32 is formed, as shown in FIG. 5, a locking window 33 into which the tip of the nozzle wall 15 is inserted.
Is formed, and an extra portion of the coating layer 32 other than covering the bonding resin layer 31 is removed. In this patterning process, the cavitation-resistant layer 20 may be formed directly above the electrothermal converter 11. Width W 3 of locking window 33
, It is necessary to be smaller than the width W 1 of the bonding resin layer 31, slightly larger than the width W 2 of the distal end surface of the nozzle wall 15, it is desirable to set, for example, about 1μm greater. However, it is necessary to larger 2, least about 3μm the width dimension W 2 of the distal end surface of the nozzle wall 15 in the case of considering practical tolerances.

After the pressing member 30 surrounding the joining resin layer 31 is formed in this way, the tip of the nozzle wall 15 comes into contact with the joining resin layer 31 via the locking window 33 as shown in FIG. As described above, the grooved plate 16 and the substrate 13 are overlapped, and the bonding resin layer 31 and the nozzle wall 15 are kept in this state.
The substrate 13 is heated by a heater (not shown) so that the tip of the substrate can be at least softened and integrated.

As a heating method, a YAG laser having an appropriate energy density is applied to these joints,
A heating element similar to the electrothermal transducer 11 is provided on the substrate 13 in advance so as to be located below the bonding resin layer 31,
Electric current may be applied to generate heat. The preferable heating state of the joining resin layer 31 and the tip of the nozzle wall 15 is such that only the tip surface of the nozzle wall 15 and the joining resin layer 31 are melted, and the portion of the nozzle wall 15 located above the holding member 30 is melted. In the above-described embodiment, the joining portion is heated with the tip end surface of the nozzle wall 15 and the joining resin layer 31 abutting on each other. However, the joining resin layer 31 is heated or softened or melted in advance. In this state, the tip surface of the nozzle wall 15 may be abutted against the bonding resin layer 31 in this state. It is also effective to form a step at the tip of the nozzle wall 15 so that the portion of the nozzle wall 15 located above the holding member 30 is less likely to melt and deform.
