Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a polyester having a reduced amount of terminal carboxyl groups, by adding a high-boiling stabilizer at the initiation of the polymerization, further adding a low-boiling stabilizer when the polymerization degree attained the desired level, and continuing the polymerization.
CONSTITUTION: A bis(ω-oxyalkylene) terephthalate is continuously polymerized in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. manganese compound, etc.) and a high-boiling stabilizer (e.g. triphenyl phosphate, etc.). When the polymerization degree attained 40, a low-boiling stabilizer, e.g. trimethyl phosphate, etc., is added and the polymerization is continued to give the desired polyester.
EFFECT: The polyester thus obtained has a reduced phosphorus content and therefore high quality.
