Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a simple-structure picture input device which can chorten the time required for search of the necessary regions when only part of the picture region is handled, by supplying the picture region divided into several units on one sheet of the slip into the computer every region with the data compression.
CONSTITUTION: The photoelectric conversion is given to the picture on the slip via photoelectric scanner 1 and then quantized to be supplied to the computer. In the picture input device which performs the above mentioned procedure, the following circuits are provided: memory circuit 2 which stores the quantized picture scanned by scanner 1 with the photoelectric conversion; and gate circuit 3 which aplies gate to the region of an optional position and size and in accordance with the designated parameter against the picture data which is read from circuit 2 under the control of control circuit 6. Furthermore, encoding circuit 4 is provided to give the data compression to the output given from circuit 3. Thus, the picture image divided into plural units on a sheet of the slip is supplied to computer 5 after the data compression with every region.
