Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title high-purity compound efficiently and easily, by purification of an electrolyte containing dimethyl sebacate, obtained by the electrolytic condensation of monomethyl adipate, using a fixed bed for anion exchange.
CONSTITUTION: Electrolytic condensation of monomethyl adipate gives an electrolyte containing sebacic acid dimethyl ester. A part of this electrolyte is led into the distillation column 3, stirred together with water, and led into the decanter 6. The oily layer containing dimethyl sebacate and monomethyl adipate is taken out and led into the top of the anion exchange resin tower 7, where the monomethyl adipate is adsorbed to the resin. Methanol is recovered from the distillation column 3 and circulated into the electrolyte tank 1. The objective compound is obtained from the bottom of the anion exchange tower 7. Water can be taken out from the decanter to be reused for extraction.
EFFECT: Additional organic solvent or water is unnecessary for the reaction.
