Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a uniform coating regardless of the fluctuations in the temperature and humidity in a coating booth, by spraying a water paint composed mainly of specific water-dispersed, neutralized water-soluble resin, and ammonia simultaneously, and evaporating specific amount of the volatile component of the water paint.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A water paint mainly composed of a water-dispersed, neutralized water-soluble resin having a degree of neutralization of ≥80% obtained by netralizing a water-dispersed synthetic polycarboxylic acid resin having a number avarage molecular weight of 3,000W30,000 and an acid value of 10W100 with ammonia or an organic amine, and if necessary 5W30 PHR of methyl alcohol, and (B) ammonia or amine preferably mixed with a solvent which dissolves said water- soluble resin, are simultaneously of alternately sprayed through separate nozzles, and, ≥33% of the volatile component of the water paint is evaporated between the spraying and the setting of the coating film. The evaporated ammonia is supplemented with additional fresh ammonia to keep sufficiently high thickening effect.
