Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce TN type liquid crystal cell of high reliability and having excellent orientation at low production cost, by providing specific inorganic thin film layers on the inner sides of upper and lower substrates, and lapping with abrasive such as diamond paste.
CONSTITUTION: Heat-resistant mask substance such as Al2O3 is printed and baked to the part of upper or lower substrate for multiple-piece production in which transparent electrode is not to be formed. Then, a transparent conductive film is formed by CVD method or by spray method, and the mask substance is removed. This substrate is dipped in a dipping solution containing 4.5% SiO2 and 95% ethyl alcohol, and then lifted to be heated and baked, and formed into SiO2 film of more than 1000Å, or preferably 1500 to 3000Å. Next, the substrate is lapped in the lifting direction from the dipping solution with diamond paste of diamond particles of which maximum grain size is 0.5μ and average grain size is 0.25μ being diluted in diluted in diluent, and is then rinsed.
