Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve starting fuculty without installing a glow-plug in a sub- chamber type diesel engine.
CONSTITUTION: In an intake passage constituted of an intake manifold 6 and an intake port 7, a cylindrical heater 8 is installed as a heater for heating the intake gas for engine. When the signal from a water temperature detector 12 indicates the temperature below 30°C, and the signal from an intake gas temperature detector 9 indicates the temperature below 200°C, and an engine key switch 14 is turned-ON, the cylindrical heater 8 is brought into conduction, and the intake gas is heated. When either the water temperature detector 12 or the intake gas temperature detector 9 is deviated from the conditions above, heating is intercepted, and when the signal from the intake gas temperature detector 9 indicates the temperature of 90°C, an indicating lamp 13 circuit is brought into conduction. Accordingly, the need for a glow-plug is obviated, and the eddy current generated in the sub-chamber in compression stroke is not impeded.
