Abstract

PURPOSE: To uniformly and satisfactorily finish the surface of works subjected to polishing by forming an elastic grinding rubber by mixing porous inorganic composite abrasive particles in an elastic rubber compound to reduce the scattering of the abrasive particles.
CONSTITUTION: Suitable amount of abrasive particles, an inorganic binder and a foam producing agent are mixed, and an organic binder also is added if desired. The mixture is granulated into granules of a suitable diameter. The granules are burned at the melting temperature of the inorganic binder. A suitable amount of thus produced composite abrasive particles are mixed in a suitable amount of rubber together with a vulcanizing agent, vulcanzing accelerator, a softener, an inorganic bulking agent such as zinc white, an organic caking material and a foaming agnet, and then this mixture is vulcanized. The abrasive particles are held by the composite abrasive granules and the elastic rubber compound enters into the small holes of the composite abrasive granules and combined during the vulcanization so that the scattering of the abrasive particles during the use of the elastic grinding rubber is eliminated.
