Abstract
PURPOSE: To supress plasma forming and obtain the worked product of good quality by forming the local spacing of controlled pressure on the work and radiating laser beams through this local spacing in laser working under atmospheric air.
CONSTITUTION: A small chamber 10 is disposed in proximity above the work such as the materials to be welded 8, 9 and its exhaust port 4 is connected to a vacuum pump to make vacuum suction. At the same time, laser beams 1 are radiated to the work through flat plate glass 3 made of sodium chloride. The air between the work and chamber is sucked and exhausted through primary vacuum port 12 and the vapors 11 from the suction port 13 become the flow to the exhaust port 4 and deviate from the course of the laser beams and therefore, the formation of plasma is suppressed and the losses of radiation energy are considerably reduced.
