Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve read performance by forming a magnetic material film for demagnetizing field suppression on a substrate with the upper part so extended that the lower edge part may be superposed onto the upper edge part of the MR element of a magnetoresistance effect (MR) magnetic head through an insulating material thin film. CONSTITUTION:MR element 2 consisting of NiFe alloy, etc., is formed on the one- side end face opposite to magnetic recording medium 6 of insulating substrate 1 by evaporation adhesion, and conductive terminal 3 is provided oppositely in both longitudinal edge parts of element 2. Mangetic material film 4 for diamagnetic field suppression is so evaporation-adhered that lower edge part 4a of film 4 may be superposed onto the upper edge part of element 2 through insulating material film 7. The thickness of insulating film 7 is set to 1mu or less to improve diamagnetic field suppression action. The effect is sufficient if the width of superposition part 4 between element 2 and film 4 is several mu. Thus, the reproducing senstivity of the magnetic head is improved.
