Abstract

PURPOSE: To uniformize the recording sensitivity of a recording layer on the whole surface, by coating a dielectric film of uneven film thickness on the recording layer using light.
CONSTITUTION: In forming a recording layer by a sputtering method or the like using a Gd-Co alloy target, the Gd composition ratio tends to increase with approaching the center in the Gd-Co film produced through the alloy to be used is uniform. When recording is carried out on such a film using laser beams, temperature distribution in the film is caused, and form and size changes in the region of HC<HT, where external magnetic field force and demagnetizing force are HT and coercive force is HC, resulting in making good recording difficult. Since it is difficult to uniformize the internal composition, the following treatment is made: A mask, such as a photoresist is formed on this film, and a dielectric film different in film thickness is coated to uniformize a total exposure quantity to the Gd-Co film.
