Abstract

PURPOSE: A composite sliding material that is prepared by blending a thermoplastic resin with carbon short fibers and powedery graphite in a specific proportion, thus permitting smooth sliding on metal and the application to the conditions of high speed and high load because of its high PV limit value.
CONSTITUTION: Said material comprises a crystalline thermoplastic resin, short carbon fibers and powdery graphite wherein the content of the short carbon fibers is 15W60 wt% based on the resin, and the total content of the carbon fibers and the powdery graphite is less than 70 wt% based on the resin. The crystalline thermoplastic resin used is, e.g., polyamide, polyacetal or others. The short carbon fibers are made by cutting long fibers of carbon having more than 90 wt% carbon content.
