Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the effluence of fine particle filter materials at the back washing by stacking the support material layers composed of the inorganic particles provided with the specific gravity and grain sizes on the filter bed pierced with a multiplicity of small holes of the sizes at which the passage of these particles is prohibited.
CONSTITUTION: The raw liquid to be treated fed from a liquid feed pipe 8 is filtered in a fine particle filter material layer 5, after which it goes through the support mateial layers 4 composed of inorganic particles and is extracted through the small holes of a filter bed 2. It is desirable to make the thicknesses of the support material layers at such ratios that when the upper layer 4a composed of particles of specific gravity 3.0 or more and grain sizes 1W4mm is let 1 the middle layer 4b composed of particles of specific gravity 2.3 or more and grain sizes 4W16mm is 0.8W1.0 and the lower layer 4c composed of particles of specific gragity 2.3 or more and grain sizes 16W32mm is 1.2W1.5. These obviate the likelihood for flowing of the support material layers together with the filter materials when back washing is done by feeding water through a water feed pipe 7 and liquid discharge pipe 9 and spouting pressure air from an air feed pipe 6.
