Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently recover waste heat in immediate response to the meteorological and service conditions, by storing condensed water produced in an exhaust gas passage, in a drain chamber and atomizing the water and blowing the atomized water into an air passage or the suction port of an electric fan.
CONSTITUTION: A heat exchanger is constructed of a heat transfer plate 3 made of a thin metallic band shaped into a double spiral form, and a supporting member therefor, as essential parts. Exhaust gas flows through a spiral gas passage 8 to exchange heat with the air in a spiral counter air passage 9. At that time, condensed water is produced. The water is temporarily stored in the drain chamber 13 of the body 12 of the heat exchanger. External air is introduced into the air passage 9 by an electric fan 14. The condensed water in the drain chamber 13 is atomized by an air pump 16 and an atomizer 17 and then blown into the air passage to accelerate heat transfer on the air-side heat transfer surface of the plate 3. At that time, some of water drops return into the drain chamber 13. Therefore, the drain chamber 13 is always kept full of water throughout a heating season and there is no fear of wrong operation if the water is charged in the drain chamber at the beginning of a season.
