Abstract

CONSTITUTION:Mechanism controller 5, test signal oscillator 6, bias setting circuit 7, equalizer setting circuit 8, recording level setting circuit 9, and A/D converter 10 are connected to CPU1 through data bus 12 and control signal bus 11. CPU1 operates so that test signals are stored in the tape sequencially by increasing the quantity of bias one after another, the peak bias is detected from the regenerative signal group taken out from the tape through A/D converter 10, and respective setting signals according to the detected signal are supplied to circuits 7 to 9. Thus, the optimum quantity of bias, eqalization and recording level for a tape to be used can be set.
