Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a fat-soluble antioxidant composition having safety, at low cost, by dissolving a water-insoluble antioxdant concentrate obtained from rosemary or sage in methanol and propylene glycol, adding a glycerine monofatty acid ester to the solution, and distilling off the solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Rosemary, sage or their mixture is treated with methanol containing 40W60% of water, and the extract is added with water to precipitate a water-insoluble antioxidant component. The precipitate is mixed with activated charcoal, and filtered to obtain a mixture of the water-insoluble antioxidant component and the activated charcoal. The mixture is again treated with methanol or ethanol to extract the water-insoluble antioxidant component, and the extract is distilled to remove the solvent. The water-insoluble antioxidant concentrate thus obtained is dissolved in methanol or ethanol, and the solution is mixed with propylene glycol and glyceryl monofatty acid ester and if necessary, tocopherol, and the solvent is distilled off from the mixture.
