Abstract

PURPOSE: To form the hardened overlay weld zone of good quality at good working efficiency, by compactly spreading the welding material consisting of the hardening agent over the surface of the parent metal, and by executing the welding through heating by the TIG arc from upside of the hardening agent.
CONSTITUTION: The hardface welding is required for the parent metal 1; over this parent metal 1, the welding material 2, consisting of the hardening agent of suitable small pieces, is compactly spread. Then, by the TIG torch 3, being swung by the oscillating mechanism held by the welder 4 placed on the traveling truck, the arc is struck from upside of the welding material 2. This arc heats and welds the welding material 2. The depth of penetration of the welding material 2 into the parent metal 1 is so shallow as 0.5W2mm, and the rate of dilution of the hardening welding material 2 due to the parent metal 1 is so low as 13%, so that the overlay weld zone with good hardness can be obtained.
